Hello Ken, Absalom is my husband's Grandfather, who served in India in the Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry, stayed on there after he was demobbed. Have all baptism certs of the family, also marriage and some deaths certs. Will certainly send you info over time. At the moment have just got back from a holiday in Goa and this week arrived back from Spain, now have visitors for the next week couple of weeks, so will be in touch after that. Also you might want to look at Parish of Dowlish Wake note: West Dowlish merged ecclesiastically with Dowlish Wake so look there also. Bye for now Leonora

Hello, I am Ash Priddle's mother, Leonora, I have an extensive family tree for Priddles. They lived and worked in the Curry Mallet, Curry Rivel, Kingsbury Episcopi, with a slight connection with Tintinhull over the 18th 19th Centuries. Have traced family back so far to to 1500's with information of their coming to England in 1066 with William the Conqueror. If there is anything you would like to know get in touch with Ash and between us we will see what can be done. (I spent a few days down in Taunton last Autumn and picked up a lot of info. fromthe Records Office. Hope the above is of interest to you. Leonora

My Grandfather's name was Henry and I believe he was born in Curry Mallet in Dorset. My mother has quite extensive details on the family ancestory, so you may be able to provide another thread to the story.

Feel free to email me directly at ashpriddle@hotmail.com and I will be able to provide more information

Thank you for your response.
There are 2 letters that survive. One is dated 20 Jan.1928. It was written to express sympthy after the death of Louise Priddle's father Fred. The other is dated 2 Nov. 1940 and speaks of the bombings in London. Also in this 2nd letter Edna says that her brother Gordon died in Jan. after a long illness with "lung problems."
In the first letter Edna states the her father and Fred Priddle were cousins. I haven's been able to find that connection. The internet has helped so much in my search for my English ancestors but I have hit a brick wall with this one.
I also have 2 snapshots. One is of a young Edna taken at what appears to be Hymerford House. She seems to be a teenager. The other looks to be taken in the 20's and on the back my Aunt has written "Bessie Collis Walden, two sons Gordon and Willie and daughter Edna and friend.
If you would like copies I would be glad to sent them.

It was a pleasant surprise to find you message. If you can shed any light on the connections of Walden and Priddle it would be great.
My email is dpheald@yahoo.com and I'm in California, USA.
Regards, Donna Heald
There is apparently a book that was published on Hymerford House that is now out of print. Perhaps you know of it?

As I mentioned my great grandparents owned Hymerford House (will try to find dates) where their daughters grew up, and all married from there. Edna Walden was my grandmother's youngest sister (and died just a few years ago) and Evelyn Nichols was my great grandmother's sister. My mother tells me the two of them lived separate from the main house which I think is now 'the flat'

Thanks for your response. In 1988 my aunt Louise Priddle (from Niagara Co. NY) visited this house. In letters from the early 20th century we learned that cousins of her father, Fred Ford Priddle, lived in this house. The surnames of those folks were Walden and Nichols. I have pictures of the home taken during her visit. She and her friends were given a tour of the home and enjoyed the time spent there.

Hello Steven,

Thank you for your reply.

I think that some of the information I have may already be known to you. It came to me from Geoff Priddle.

However, I do have Priddle information back to about 1480 that I would be pleased to send. It would be in the form of an Ancestor Report which I cannot send through Ancestry.

Please send me your e-mail address direct to my address below.

Regards,

Ken Priddle,
Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada.
KPri213085@aol.com

Hi! Timothy - what a complete surprise to receive your message - I posted that message ages ago and now I have stopped searching my tree. I do now have your father's correct DOB - 25.07.1913 and I believe you were born 1950 in Oxford.I am your cousin (!!!) daughter of your Dad's brother Elam. If you would like further contact I would welcome it and perhaps we can compare info on our trees. Do you have contact with Bill's (William) family?? As I am no longer a member of Ancestry, it would help if you replied via my email address please - it is

blharty@dodo.com.au

Cheers Lena Harty nee Priddle

My mothers maiden name was Dorothy Darline Priddle born Saint John NB Nov 21,1936. She had a brother Robert born 1926 and a sister who died at age 6 before my mom was born. Her father's name was Frank and he may have had a twin who died at an early age. He had a brother Harold who was my godfather who had no children. I'll find out from my mom about her other Uncle's and Aunt's and post later.

Hello Ken,
If you do have any family group sheets that might help. I too have not been able to trace who Sarah, Susan and Janes parents are, except George is Susan's father. That has been gained because of her marriage to Mr Tolman. Susan Tolman was also the aunt of Susan Quantock who fits with being the only child of Jane and Matthew Quantock. Susan Quantock fits because she was left some money in 1899 by her cousin John Hallett. John was my great grandfathers uncle.

This whole riddle would be solved if I could find a baptism record for either Sarah, Jane or Susan which listed the mother.
Regards Jenny

Hello Jenny,

I have the marriage of Anna (Hannah) Priddle to George Male in 1793, but no parents or children.

I have no record for Sarah or Susan.

I have Jane Male m. Matthew Quantock 1826 so birth could be 1805-06.

I would be pleased to send you family groups sheets with sources if you think it would be helpful.

Regards,

Ken Priddle
Port Coquitlam, BC
