Hello Mae,

I am pleased to see your message. My wife and I are winding down our Hawaii vacation so I don' t have all of my information and genealogy reporting capability with me. We will be back home in Port Coquitlam, BC on Wednesday (Feb 15) and I will put together some information from my file at that time.

I don't think I can send a genealogy report to this Ancestry message board, but I will remember to send something.

My address is kpri213085@aol.com if you want to send me your email address.

Hello Aletha,

I have seven entries in my file for Elizabeth PRIDDLE daughter of William with dates of birth between 1738 and 1933. The places of birth are mostly England.

Can you narrow the field or would you like a family group sheet for all of them.

Please tell me your e-mail address (aletha1@gmail.com did not work).
I am living in Hymerford now since nearly two years.
And yes Dampier the pirate was born there. There came a Copy of a portrait with the house. As far as I know from records the House itself dates back to 1277. That is the first year it is in any writen records.
The onced great Hall has a second floor now. They also found in the eighties a hidden door from the Master bedroom to the private Chapel.
We are at the moment refurbishing the House. It would be really interessting to know more about the House, so if anyone could help with History I would be gratefull for that.

yes William Dampier lived there...I have some info on it as I am an ancestor...trying to find genealogy on his children but not alot found as yet. My late mother visited the home about 25 years ago and was welcomed warmly and given a wonderful tour. I can't afford ancestry right now so if you have any tips for me re: this Dampier genealogy I'd love to hear from you...I have a few tales to tell if any of you are Dampier ancestors

Dear Ken,
Thank you for your response, which is greatly appreciated.
I have worked out the following, using Parish records and LDS transcriptions.
Jacob Smith married Elizabeth (Betty) Palmer in 1757. Their children were Henry(1761), Maria (1765), Jacob (1767), and Isaac (1769). All baptised West Hatch, Somerset.
Henry appears to have married Ann Priddle (West Hatch 3/9/1782)and appears to have the following children (all West Hatch baptised, parents Henry and Ann)
Betty (1788), Jacob (1788), Eli (1800), Isaac (1800)

Betty and Jacob share the same Baptism date (19/10/1788) and Eli and Isaac both Baptised 29/10/1800) - this was not apparently unusual.

The family links are based on Parish Records and commonality of Christian names, but by no means foolproof - there maybe mistakes! Eli was my great x3 great grandfather, Henry x4 great grandfather, and Jacob x5 great grandfather. So my interest in in Smiths, but if Ann Priddle is correct, then she is a relative of interest as well.

I know the Priddles were a founding family in this area, from the time of Raoul Priddle, armourer to William 1, and in 1881 over 50% of all UK Priddles lived in this area.
I will find out more, now that the record office in Taunton has re-opened.

If you see anything unconvincing or mistaken, in the links I have written, I would be most grateful for your comments and advice.

Many thanks for making contact, it is appreciated.
Best wishes,
Philip Jenkins (in a wet and windy England!)

I think that I must have found the same marriage entry for Henry Smith and Ann Priddle 3 Sep 1782 at West Hatch, Somerset using Boyd's Marriage Index and/or Parish Register West Hatch.

I have no parents for either Ann or Henry and no children from the marriage.

I have looked for unmarried Ann Priddle entries in my file and find none that seem correct.

Is your primary interest PRIDDLE or SMITH?

Regards,

Ken Priddle,
Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada

Amelia left England at 18 years of age and travelled to Australia on board the SHALIMAR, arriving in Victoria in November 1857. Amelia Rebecca Quick married Charles Phillip Gilbert on the 24 May, 1858 in Melbourne. They had 6 kids, 2 in victoria and 4 in new south wales. I am a decendant from Bertha Matilda Gilbert born in Young, NSW.

Hope this helps.

Megan

Thanks for your reply. My grandmother was Amelia Priddle and she came from England to Niagara Falls. I don't know when. My mother is Marion Jean Priddle. She was born March 3, 1940. Her sister is Mary Priddle, of Fonthill Ontario. She was the older sister and is now deceased. There are also a bunch of brothers, most of whom I don't know as we grew up in BC but they are mostly in the Niagara Falls area. There is a Denis, Clearance, Donald, Bob, and at least one more, whose name I can't think of. There was also a brother who lived in Malta but I believe he is deceased.

Hello Mary and Pat,

Mary, I think that both Pat and I would appreciate knowing more about your PRIDDLE family interests. I tried to reach you through the Ancestry 'contact' system without success.

Pat, Thank you for your e-mail address and access to your Lawrence website. I have made notes from your site for Joseph Samuel Priddle, Eleanor Sarah Lawrence and Charles Henry Priddle. I have also found FreeBMD entries for Joseph and Charles births and Joseph's marriage to Eleanor. I will add this information to my datafile and send you a copy of the Family Group Sheet for comment.

I am hoping that Mary will respond to us or the Ancestry message board. It sound like she may further PRIDDLE information about the Rimpton area family.

If you would like information about the Kingsbury Episcopi or Tintinhull PRIDDLEs, please let me know.

Ken Priddle, Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada.
E-mail KPri213085@aol.com

Joseph Samuel married Eleanor Sarah Lawrence. She was my father's gt aunt. I have photos of him in sailors uniform with a young boy and another with a lady who might be this aunt but I don't know. Obviously this is pre war. I was wondering if this was perhaps Eleanor/Joseph grandson? Would there be anyone around of the right age to know? my email address is patricia@bishop3724.freeserve.co.uk and I would love to find out who they are. Would it be any use for me to attach the photos to an email for you, if so please give me your address. We are connected by a marriage a long time ago!!
Pat

Hello Mary,

I have a fairly extensive record of PRIDDLE's from Somerset but very few from Gloucester and I don't have Charles Henry Priddle (1869) or his brother Joseph Samuel Priddle. Do you know parent's names for Charles and Joseph? I have traced my family to Stocklinch, near East Lambrook and Kingsbury Episcopi. I also have earlier records for PRIDDLE in Tintinhull which is nearer Rimpton. I would be pleased to hear more about your PRIDDLE family and to share information that you may find useful.

Sincerely,

Ken Priddle
Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada.

Also you might want to look at Parish of Dowlish Wake note: West Dowlish merged ecclesiastically with Dowlish Wake so look there also. Bye for now Leonora

Hello, I am Ash Priddle's mother, Leonora, I have an extensive family tree for Priddles. They lived and worked in the Curry Mallet, Curry Rivel, Kingsbury Episcopi, with a slight connection with Tintinhull over the 18th 19th Centuries. Have traced family back so far to to 1500's with information of their coming to England in 1066 with William the Conqueror. If there is anything you would like to know get in touch with Ash and between us we will see what can be done. (I spent a few days down in Taunton last Autumn and picked up a lot of info. fromthe Records Office. Hope the above is of interest to you. Leonora

Thank you for your response.
There are 2 letters that survive. One is dated 20 Jan.1928. It was written to express sympthy after the death of Louise Priddle's father Fred. The other is dated 2 Nov. 1940 and speaks of the bombings in London. Also in this 2nd letter Edna says that her brother Gordon died in Jan. after a long illness with "lung problems."
In the first letter Edna states the her father and Fred Priddle were cousins. I haven's been able to find that connection. The internet has helped so much in my search for my English ancestors but I have hit a brick wall with this one.
I also have 2 snapshots. One is of a young Edna taken at what appears to be Hymerford House. She seems to be a teenager. The other looks to be taken in the 20's and on the back my Aunt has written "Bessie Collis Walden, two sons Gordon and Willie and daughter Edna and friend.
If you would like copies I would be glad to sent them.

It was a pleasant surprise to find you message. If you can shed any light on the connections of Walden and Priddle it would be great.
My email is dpheald@yahoo.com and I'm in California, USA.
Regards, Donna Heald
There is apparently a book that was published on Hymerford House that is now out of print. Perhaps you know of it?

As I mentioned my great grandparents owned Hymerford House (will try to find dates) where their daughters grew up, and all married from there. Edna Walden was my grandmother's youngest sister (and died just a few years ago) and Evelyn Nichols was my great grandmother's sister. My mother tells me the two of them lived separate from the main house which I think is now 'the flat'

The house was owned and lived in by my great grandparents (The Walden's), my grandmother grew up in Hymerford House with her three sisters. I would be very interested to know more about the letter you have.

Yes, the house is on the market now, there are still a lot of original features and a lot of new ones. Its a beautiful place.

Hello Ashpriddle,

My ancestors were also from Somerset, the Kingsbury-Episcopi area.

Could you mean Curry Rivel? I have several Priddle entries in my masterfile for Priddle in that area.

I would be pleased to hear more from you and to exchange information, either using this Ancestry message board or direct using KPri213085@aol.com.

Sincerely,

Ken Priddle
Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada.

I originally come from Kent, my Father was born in Assansole, India, and my Grandfather was born in Somerset. I think we're from the Curry Ivel stock. My clan now resides in Scotland.
