Again, many thanks. I also wondered if Michael and Nancy were ever married, as it appears that the Thompsons were still together in census records after Robert was born and had Thompson children after Robert, as well. But I also found a Civil War pension application that appeared to be filed by Arthur and Nancy. Seems as though she wouldn't have been able to file for Michael's pension if she were not married to him. That's the next thing I need to order. I will definitely let you know if I learn anything new.
Regards - Kathy

Thank you, Garrie, for your response. I see--from several family trees--that there was a marriage between Michael Prince and Nancy Thompson; but even that has me confused, as I haven't found any supporting records yet for anything that has to do with Michael, except the marriage record I mentioned before, which doesn't support any of the family tree information. I have obtained the death certificate for my g grandfather, Arthur Prince; but, unfortunately, it only has "unavailable" in the space for his mother's maiden name (just my luck). I guess I'll send for his military records next and hope that sheds some light. I do appreciate your efforts to help, however. I will let you know if I learn anything new, as my tree is "private" currently, since I don't want anyone to copy from it if it isn't correct.

Many thanks - Kathy

Michael Prince, b. abt 1844 and wife Eliza

I am looking for source citations to confirm that the wife of Michael Prince (b. abt 1844 in TN and father to Arthur and Lucinda Prince) was named Eliza Nelson Patton. I see numerous Ancestry family trees with this info, but none of them list any sources other than Ancestry trees. To the contrary, a marriage license in Webster Co., MO, shows Michael Prince marrying Eliza J.W. Baker on 27 Aug 1865????? Since census records show him to be in MO from 1850 through 1880--again, I'm confused here about his DOD in 1872--does anyone know where these 2 pieces of info re Eliza Patton and his DOD originated??? I would greatly appreciate any help with this that anyone can provide. Michael Prince is my gg grandfather; Arthur Prince is my g grandfather; Mary Josephine (Josie) Prince is my grandmother.

Arthur Prince is enumerated consecutively with the John Willhite household in the 1840 US Federal Census, and John's wife was Nancy Jane Prince. Also, a son and grandson of a Thomas Prince, mostly in Lawrence County, Kentucky, are named John Wilhoit Prince (both later in Oklahoma). Do any Prince researchers find Nancy Jane Prince, wife of John Willhite, to be in any of the Prince families of Lawrence or Carter Counties in Kentucky?

Hi Charles, I don't know if I can help you -- what I'm most curious about is John Prince's wife, Elizabeth Bynum Boykin Turner Prince Porter :). Elizabeth seemed to marry men and then they died shortly thereafter. Elizabeth's 2nd husband was my ancestor Benjamin Turner who died 1810 in Southampton. I think the Princes were in Sussex county before Southampton but haven't really delved into that.

Sherry

In my search for a book by Beiman Otis Prince, I discovered another of his works that I am interested in obtaining. The Conway branch of Horry County Memorial Library has two copies in their South Carolina reference section of "The Hardees of Horry." This is the only book in their catalog authored by Mr. Prince. The other book may be titled "Nicholas Prince and his Descendants." My goal is to purchase both of these books, as they contain information about the Prince family, of which I am a descendant.

Will get back to you with more info. I have info to help but need to check my notes and I dont have them with me. When I first started researching I noticed Ivy as a middle name used in several of the children of George William Prince (4 generations after Edward and Rebecca) I couldnt make the connection at that time but had tons of paperwork of Land transactions between the Prince's and Ivey's. From my earlier research I really felt these two families really got along and thought alot of each other. After I found the connection of Edward and Rebecca things really started falling into place and making sense. If my assumption of the middle name Ivy in these children actually pertains to the Ivey family, it is heartwarming to know after 4 generations the Prince's were still honoring the name. Will get back to you, I need my notes, I dont want to tell you something wrong.
In October I tried to find the Fort Prince marker while visiting my great aunt and uncle, TB and Sara Prince in Spartanburg.
Hi Paul,

William was definately the son of Edward and Rebecca. William was born 1740 and died in 1801. U.S sons of the American Revolution membership application lists william and his parents as Edward and Rebecca. I am also showing they had Edward JR, Joseph, Nicholas, Daniel,John, Gilbert, Elizabeth, James, Thomasine, and Gathwaite. I also have other info to confirm on william if your interested.

This family is very confusing, but I am enjoying the challenge. I am Lucky that my part of this line has always remained in the Sussex, Southampton County area. I have a wealth of info that was left by the family. Trying to sort everyone out and matching with the info and artifacts I have is great. I hope in another year or two to make public all the info, pics and artifacts. Unbeleivable what was saved and survived.
