Assume that Leona was the child of LC Apples listed in Hunt Co. TX (between Wolfe City & Fairlie-this area is very close to Fannin Co. & Honey Grove area) in 1910 census. Look on p.27, line 23 for the family. LC appears to be son of William B. Apple who is in Fannin Co. in 1900 (pct.4, p.23, line 28-LC is "LaCampton"). In 1880 William is in Smith Co. TN (p.13, line 27-LC is now "Comton"). Nearby is Oliver P. Apple w/wife. My ancestor Madison Fields is 2 families away. 1870-O.P. Apple is in Smith Co. TN p.10, line 21 (William is 9 yrs). 1860 O.P. Apple is in Putnam Co.TN p.4-William is 1 yr (on next page)Note the Nancy A. Burton age 75 who is living with them. One of the family trees submitted for this family at ancestry.com says that Oliver's first wife was Elizabeth Jane Burton. 1850-they are in Jackson Co. TN p.15. These people (judging by mine) moved around between the 3 counties often. They all came to Fannin Co. TX before 1900 in the mass invasion that made that area along the Red River become known as "Little Tennessee".
Now you know what I know about the Apple family. As they are only kin by marriage to me, I haven't done a lot of research on them. Hope this helps. Sharon

Re: Family of Jessie Mae Prince living in Bessemer, Alabama late 40's early 50's

The following is a story about your grandmother. I would love you to tell me about your memories of her or other family members. Did Jessie Mae go to church? Tell me about her faith. I believe God used your grandmother in life chaning ways in my life and I would like to share her story with the world.

I want to tell you a story about a saint and angel God sent to me when I was 4 years old. How I love God for His wonderful ways. He is always surprising me with His creative, unspeakable joy. He delights to show us His Wisdom and is so happy when we bubble over with delight when we see Him in His works.

I was born right outside of Birmingham, Alabama in 1946. A blanket of ignorance covered the hearts and minds of the community I was born into. We were at best lower middleclass. My Daddy told me stories of being hungry during the Depression so he had an idea of poverty. My mother did take me and my brother to church occasionally, but I really did not know the good news about Jesus Christ. I did not know that He came to earth to make a difference in the way people thought and lived and loved. I assumed that it was important to know about Him. I did not know that eternal life is to know God the Father and Jesus Christ Whom He sent.

My mother was sad because she had married to get away from a miserable situation and found herself in another miserable situation. My Dad, bless his heart, was a heavy drinker so Mom didn’t get the nice clothes and stuff she thought she needed in order to feel good about herself. So, when I was four, my brother three, Mom went to work. Now I have found that God is in control of the universe. Not that I discovered this on my own! He graciously reveals the truth about Who He is to us, else how could we know what He is like? So, God allowed my mother to go to work even though it was very hard for me to lose her. That is what it felt like to me. I felt abandoned. But into this pain God sent Jessie Mae Prince. She was a poor black mother who left her children to come and take care of me and my brother. She had to work because she was so poor.

I say she was a saint and an angel because Jessie Mae Prince did not just know about the glorious Savior, she knew Him. He oozed out of her life like the balm from an aloe vera plant! And she healed my budding racist soul with her remarkable love. I remember the busses with signs telling black people to sit in the back. I remember different water fountains and restrooms for whites and blacks. But, at my young impressionable age, I did not know what this meant. I simply imbibed the message of like beans soaked in water. I heard the bad names my Dad spewed out of his mouth when he was angry. I know now that the problem was in his own damaged, broken soul. And in the brokenness of a whole group of people who had been fed lies as food to eat. These lies were a poison that made us all sick. Racism is not about external things like skin color. Hatred, distrust, superiority comes from the heart. All behavior comes from the human heart.

One day the my pain broke out in livid anger against my dear black nanny. I called her the unspeakable name. What do you think she did? When I told this story to others they all think that she swooped me up and spanked my deserving bottom and dressed me down to an inch of my life. That is what I deserved, but this loving soul looked beyond my fault and saw my need. She knew where those outbursts came from and she felt compassion for my lonely heart. Jessie Mae Prince gathered me into her arms and rocked my tears and anger away. “You know you don’t mean that, child.” Her forgiveness transformed my life. From that day forward I only saw people, not race. Or better yet that there is only one race, the broken human race all of us with hearts that spew out hurt, despair, deceit and disharmony until we receive the transforming power flowing from the Lord Jesus Christ to raise us from this horror and create us in His image It is in Him that there is one new humanity. Those of us who have had the astounding privilege granted to us to know Him are one people from every tongue, every nation, every tribe. Jessie Mae Prince imaged that forth to the heart of a budding 4 year old racist. How glorious is this God Who uses what the world would call base, and poor and weak to bring forth true transformation. Hatred displaced love through the instrument of a magnanimous spirit in a most unlikely vessel. A magnanimous spirit who was filled up from the fountain of holiness flowing freely by grace through faith from the heart of a poor black lady who was the mother of 14 children. It is said that in Him, that is in the Lord Jesus Christ is life, and that life is the light of men. Jessie Mae Prince was a beacon of that eternal light for me. Providence used her need to meet my need.

And to top it off, the next day Jessie May Price brought me a present. She spent a nickel on a coloring book and a nickel on new colors for me. I knew that this was a great sacrifice for somehow I know that money was dear and she gave out of her lack. God has surely blessed this sacrifice. I cannot tell this story without deep emotion. But I want to let the Lord Jesus Christ love through me and bring healing to others like He loved through my Jessie Mae Prince.

My parents were Rex and Annie B. Hopkins.

Thanks for responding. I hope your family reunion was wonderful.

For His Glory,
Linda Crutchfield

Hi! I am in the middle of moving right now or I could write longer but will. I have found and am part of the lines down from him as it pertains to my mother (Muriel Prince Rice b. 1920 d. 2005) I have an early Zelotes Prince (born in early seventeen hundreds I think who is noted as "freeborn") I have been to the gravesites and also have Zelotes' civil war info. I would be glad to share it with you. After my parents died I started looking for her remaining relatives who gave her quite a bit of genealogy info. It would be great to find them. Her uncle Bun (Edmund Prince) was in touch with her for many years. When I have unpacked everything I will see if I can find you some stuff. Talk soon. Leigh Darrow

I am trying to find his parents info. There is a record in Duxbury of an unamed son born to a Sylvia Prince in 1828 - But I haven't been able to find any specific records on him and how to tie him into the other Princes from Marshfied & Duxbury that I have found info on.
Oh, my, I think this is my dear Jessie Mae Prince. She was my caregiver when I was 4 or 5 years old. We lived in Broadmore right in back of the Holiday Inn on the Bessemer Super Highway. My mother went to work and hired Jessie Mae to take care of my brother Ronnie and me. She made a life changing impression on my life and I will never forget how she taught me about love and forgiveness and that there is only one race---the human race. I would love to tell you the story soon.
I remember taking Jessie Mae home and longing to come inside the little white picket fence and play with all the happy children. Of course, back then we weren't privileged to have those opportunities.
Please tell her family how much I love and appreciate her. Do you have any picture of her and the little house. Is that house still there? I haven't been back to Bessemer in many years.

My grt grt grandmother's sister was the wife of Sweeting PRINCE. She was Ann SUTTON and they married in 29 Apr 1841 at St. Mary the Virgin, Easington, Co. Durham.
They had one son George who lived 13 days on 1844; born and died at Salter's Lane, Haswell (which is where it seems they had their gorcer's shop.
Sweeting and Jackson's father George also worked in the grocer's shop with them. Ann died of Fever when she was only 39 on 30 Sep 1857.
Sweeting and Jackson PRINCE may also have had a sister, Tamer, born 28 May 1810. I think she might have died as I have found nothing else about her. I don't know where I found this info !!
Ann was the dau of William SUTTON and Barbara TWEEDY.

She then married John Klontz and moved to Oregon.

I am searching for information about her children by John as they are half-siblings of my grandmother. Our family knows very little about this part of our g-grandfather's family.

Thank you!

What I have is Joseph Prince, Sr. was born abt. 1710 in Surry, VA married Mary in 1739 and moved to NC in the Rutherford Co. area. He had a son Joseph and the date of birth I have is 17 Mar 1749 and died 1810. He had a daughter Judith (which I think her first name was Rebecca Judith Prince) who married Jesse Burnett. They were all born in VA but died in NC. You will find some of them in NC in FindAGrave.com
My ancestor was Isaac Prince born about 1750 who married Sarah Russell on the 19th April 1778. They had a son William born 1780 at Downton. They also had a son called John and a daughter called Mary who were all born at Downton. Do you think there is a connection?

I have been researching the Abbeville Prince families and had not found a spouse for Elizabeth, dau of Peyton and Mahala Prince. Could I ask you where you found her spouse and which Scoggins it was? Do you know who Peyton's parents were? I have been unable to find a link to his parents. Any help would be appreciated.
Stan Prince
