Hello,

I have a Mary Hartley born in 1822 (I assume in Lothersdale as I think that all her sisters and brother were). Her parents are Peter Hartley (B.1793) in Lothersdale and Jane Proctor (B. 1792/3) in Keighley and died in 1870. Is there a link anywhere? I'm particularly interested in what seems to have been her illegitimate son Benson (B. 1842)

Faye, Thanks for this information but William is born too late to be mine as he married in 1821. I just thought the Moorhouse connection might be there.
Searching the records there are 3 possibilities the one I have (b1797) with father Richard and mother Grace Burton, a William Proctor (b1800) Guisley, father John and another one (b 1789)Brotherton, father John Mother Anne.

Thanks anyway
Rob
Note - all of the data is unconfirmed and unsupported by records...Samuel born 12 Jan 1783 in Cowling, died at Carlton Moor - Carlton in Craven. Was the son of Samuel (1751) and Sarah Moorhouse. He married Alice Holmes 24 June 1804 Keighley Parish Church, Yorkshire. Possible children - Sarah (02 Oct 1804 Keighley), Elizabeth (08 Nov 1806 Keighley), Mary (18 July 1808 Keighley), Nancy (02 Feb 1812 Keighley), Tabitha (08 May 1814 Keighley died 15 April 1827), William (18 July 1819). Also have listed another Mary (18 July 1819), Jane (26 Nov 1824 or 1826) and John (25 Dec 1828). Possibly two different families here but with parents of same name. Sorry if this is confusing. Will look for Thomas next.

Hi Faye, thanks for the reply, do you have any children of Samuel (b1783 Cowling) or Thomas (b1787 Cowling) ?
I'm looking for a William born between 1795 and 1806 approx, Samuel looks the most likely if my William was born in 1800 his father Samuel would have been 17.
He had a child Mooorhouse so if there is one it's a strong link to Sarah Moorhouse.

Rob

I have Sarah Moorhouse (Born circa 1752) married to Samuel Procter 24 Oct 1775. Children listed are Ann (b 1776 Kildwick), Grace (b 1778 Keighley), Sarah (b 1781 Glusburn), Samuel (b 1783 Cowling), Esther (b 1785 Keighley), Thomas (b 1787 Cowling). These names and dates were given to me by a distant relative and I have not confirmed that they are correct. Nor were there any records cited in the info I was given.
Faye

No Morehouse Procter in my records, although I do have a Sarah Moorhouse born circa 1752. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Carol,I have Samuel married to Anne (no surname or date)& then to Mary HARTLEY (22.08.1822). Samuel died 26.09.1838 at Burned Hill, Black Lane Ends, Thornton in Craven. According to my records Samuel's son John (B 29.11.1802) John had a son James in 1828 but I do not have the name of his then wife or any info on what happened to her. His second marriage was to Elizabeth (Betty) Smith on 03.03.1834. Children were Smith, John, Thomas, Mary, William, Nancy, Ellen, and Richard. I am descended from James the first son. Do you have any info on John's first wife? (my gg grandmother) My info was given to me by a distant relative so hope it is right:)
Many thanks - I had since found a marriage in Carlton on the 1 Nov 1824 - now that the West Yorkshire records have appeared on Ancestry.

I have also found her death in Skipton in Jul - Sep 1853.

Unable to find her birth, but have found a record of Procters living at Procter Heights Farm, Lothersdale. In a census carried out in Lothersdale in 1838 - in preparation for a new church, Mr John Benson Sidgwick undertook a local census ... where he noticed read poverty he left one shilling. He recorded a John Procter at Procterheights with 2 children under 7, 6 age up to 14, and with three unbaptised. He left one shilling. I am wondering if Elizabeth could have been one of the unbaptised?

Thank you for your info.

William Procter b abt 1806 Lothersdale - Australia?

My Gt x 3 Grandfather William Proctor b abt 1806 (Blacksmith) in Lothersdale West Riding of Yorkshire married Sarah Pickles on the 04 Jan 1821. They had 4 children William b1824, Edwin b1827, Francis b1831 and Moorhouse b1833.
Unfortunately 2 weeks after Moorhouse was born Sarah passed away on the 19 Sept 1833 aged 34. The chldren then split up I have found a census record for Moorhouse in 1841 living with Betty Brown in Yorkshire and a seperate Census record for the other 3 children William, Edwin and Francis living with Charles Senior and family but no father Wiliam can be found.
Yesterday I found a criminal record for William (father) for sheep stealing on the 28 march 1835 and sentenced to transportation for life. So I assume he was sent to NSW Australia, I cannot as yet find a passenger list or a ship name but he probably started a new life and may have remarried. Do you have any information?
I am not aware that any of my main line Proctor's went to America or Canada but perhaps a brother or cousin did.
Any information will be galdly received and I am very willing to share the information I have.
If Pauline reads this then please read your gmail it looks like we have the same Gtx2 Grandfather!
Regards
Robert Proctor

robertp5@sky.com

Thankyou.

Hello Regina

All i know is that my Thomas Procter was born circa 1702. He arrived in Sussex in 1720 most likely on a customs cutter owned by his future father in law Nathaniel Pigrim. We have made a huge leap of faith that he came from Yorkshire as around about 1720 Pigrim was in Liverpool. The other possibility is that he came from abroad. Was he an exile as one of his future children was christened by "The King in exciles personal priest" Could this King be Charles Stuart.

Any assitence would be welcomed. Many thanks

Dave Procter

I'm not quite sure whether your Thomas Procter is part of my tree, but would love to hear from you to work this out. Cheers
Regina Procter

Hello, I know this is an older posting about Margaret Procter but I am hoping some of you who responded are still around. You added Kate Lowney Schalich to the mix.I understand Margaret and Lena were her sisters. I am researching the Schalich family and I do believe this Kate Lowney was married to John A Schalich of California, b 1865, d 1951. There is a grandson named Michael Lowney Walt of Alameda. Please email me for more info. Thanks. MAL Malincal@comcast.net

Dear Janet Procter

Very interested in your comment on the Procter family, posted in 2002. I have only just seen it (31 August 2010) as I have only just started researching my Procter forebears. My gt.grandmother was Frances Mary Procter, who married the Rev John W Hawtrey, Eton housemaster and later founder of Hawtreys prep school, which folded in the 1990s. Her father was Lt Col James Moody Procter, Director of Studies at Sandhurst RMA (who married his cousin Susannah Procter). Their grandfather was Dr Richard Procter, army surgeon at the Battle of Bunkers Hill. I am now losing my way among Harleys, who appear to have purchased Berrington Hall. His father was the Rev Henry Procter, Vicar of Orleton, Herefordshire, who appears also to be an ancestor of the William Procter of Procteer and Gamble.

One Wikipedia entry mentions the 3rd Earl of Oxford, in which case there masy be consusion.

Would be very interested to hear what you know.

Jane Brown

My g-g-g-g-grandfather is James A. Procter of Wise County, TX. He was born around 1829 in Kentucky and had at least one daughter named Laura Alice (she married a Charlie Wood). I would like to know any more information about James and his family, particularly his parents (who they were and where they were from), did he have siblings, who did he marry, and what did he do for a living.

I have tried looking for him, but I do not have the means to have a paid subscription to ancestry and therefore cannot access the records. If anyone had any information on James and his family, your help will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance!!!!!
