not sure about the Chippewa, but my grandfather George Blow brother to Wesson, always said we were Mohawk, Iroqois and that a Frenchman came over and married an Indian Squaw. Also said Blow (Blo, Bleau) meant Blue Water. I think there has been mention of a teepee but not sure. Also, was told she smoked a pipe all the time. Would love a copy of that picture. I am trying to find info but get going on a Provo and not sure sometimes if right trail. I have gone to the Huron Indian 2 different times and found Iroqois once, but didn't look right. Do know that the Indian is on the Provo side, now Blow according to my Grandfather and his stories. I am trying to get more info from my aunt and uncle.

Hi. There is Chippewa in here somewhere. My grandmother is the daughter of Wesson Blow & granddaughter of Mary Provo Blow (Her mom died giving birth to her and Mary raised her.)
My Dad, Ernest Bapp and his siblings all remember a great Aunt who was Chippewa on Grandma Blow's side they said, babysitting them. She would actually set her teepee up in the summer and she would sit in there and crochet or something. I will check with my aunt of the story again. She even has a picture I am told. I will get that as well.
Did anyone else on this posting ever find out any other info?

This Provo family comes from Quebec.
Louis Provost and Marie Latour
Louis' father was:
Louis Provost and wife Genevieve Masse, Married on November 20, 1820 in Ste_Élisabeth de Joliette.

Going back further his ancestor was Martin Prévost married with Manitouabewich in 1644 in Quebec City. That's the first marriage recorded between a white and an Indian maiden: That's far away, hey?

Adrien Provost

He was born in Grand Isle VT and is buried in So Hero,VT I also grew up hearing about the Indian heritage, Mohawk and Iroqois. He also told me that Blow meant "Blue Water". Mary is the daughter of Louis Provo (Prove) and Mary Latour (Latrell. Her brother Peter Provo is buried in Grand Isle also. William is the son of John Blow and Lucy Cootware (Courtois)
I have been trying to research more on the Indian connection but not sure which thread to follow as I did get to Iroqois, but another thread did not. any info would be great.
Jean Prouty

Hugh Napier marries Elizabeth Lynch

Hugh Napier married Elizabeth Lynch possibly in Thorold, Ontario, Canada around the mid to late 1850's or the early 1860's. According to the 1851 Canadian Census, Hugh's sibleys were Mary Ann, Jane (Jennie), Joseph Fleming, and Martha (Mattie) Napier. Their parents were William and Jane Napier. I have quite a bit of information on Hugh's descendants, as I am one. I am trying to locate a descendant of Elizabeth Lynch Napier's family. Elizabeth's mother was Betty Robertson (?) Lynch and Elizabeth had at least two sisters. They came to Canada from Scotland, although Elizabeth was born in Ireland. It is said of Elizabeth's two sisters that "one was the grandmother of Winnie Coady and the other was the grandmother of James Connery." I am not sure of the significance of this statement, but it may hold some clues to someone reading this message. Any information or further clues would be helpful.

Mary Palmer McCoy

Rick,

I was notified of your second response to my posting and just noticed there was an earlier response from you. I see that you were from Jean Napier's line. My greatgrandfather, Hugh Napier (b. 1834 d.1881), was a brother. He was born in New York, before the family moved to Canada and died in Thorowold, Ontario.

I, too, inherited a family album and I recognize many of the photos from my father's side of the family. His mother was mary Napier that was raised by Mattie and Alfred, so I wonder if you can identfy any one the photographs.

Hope to hear from you soon,
Mary (mkmccoy@sbcglobal.net)

Rick,

This is great! I have lots of information about Hugh Napier's children. Hugh Napier was Mattie's older brother. Upon Hugh's early death and the death of his wife, Mattie and Alfred Provo raised Hugh's daughter, Mary Napier. Mattie and Alfred Provo are named on Mary's marriage certificate as witnesses. She lived with them from the age of nine years old until she married. Here is my home email: mkmccoy@sbcglobal.net. Please contact me and I will make arrangements to send photographs and documents to you if you would like. I would love to have a copy of photos and any other information you are willing to share.
Martha (Mattie) Napier is a relation on my mother's side and I think I have pictures of Alfred and Mattie's children (or perhaps one or the other and a spouse) taken in Troy, NY. Mattie and Alfred's children are named Alfred W., born 1872, died 1915 and Martha, born 1874. Tough family to track as last names so far appear as Provo, Preveau, Privoe. Would like to hear from you.
Perhaps you might be able to identify a couple of photos that I have, taken in Troy, NY somewhere's around the turn of the century. They are far too young to be Mattie or Alfred Provo, Sr, but they might be their children. I inherited a photo album from my mother's family via Jean Napier's daughter, Mattie Purdy Trimble and I was never able to make the Troy connection until I found your "tree" online.
Your message is a bit old, so I hope you still have the same e-mail address and can respond.

Rick Lupton

Were there Indian roots in this line? I was told that this Genereux family used to sell a cream or salve under the name of Genereux's Remedies back in the early 1900's. It was for skin ailments and worked incredibly well, maybe it was an old Indian receipe??

Your english is very good, c'est tres bien!! better than my francais!! Marie-Louise Lefebvre),
Antoine had a son : Napoléon (m. 1861, Montréal, Marie Paquin),
Napoléon had a son Edmond-Édouard (m. Malvina Provost, Montréal, Canada, 12-1898). They are my greatfather and greatmother.
Edmond-Édouard had a son, Lucien Généreux (m. Cécile Thibault about 1940 in Montréal, Canada)
Lucien Généreux is my father.

The junction Généreux/Provost is done with my great father Edmond-Édouard Généreux and my great mother Malvina Provost (dit Leprohon).

Hoping that will you!!!

Contact me for more

Jocelyne Généreux

As you, my father (Lucien Généreux), Malvina's and Edmond Généreux's parents, told us his mother Malvina Provost and his father Edmond Généreux were both indians: Malvina was Mohawk. They got married in Montréal in 1898. Maybe those informations will differe with yours, maybe not!

Neither I have information from my indian roots.
