Virginia Pruitt DNA Research Group

One of the members started a new yDNA research group at Family Tree DNA to connect families from early colonial Virginia this morning. If your particular Pruett/Pruitt/Prewitt family came through Virginia in the 17th and 18th centuries (which many did) then this group might be helpful to you in the near future once it has been populated.

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Pittsylvania1700s

Re: Shadrack Prewit / Pruit

I believe he was a brother to Obediah Pruet and the son of William Pruet and Judith Dudley. Shadrack is in South Carolina by 1800 and is listed in the census living with all of his brothers in the same county. They are the only Pruets there. He may have had a son named David, who had a son named, Shadrack and can be found in Tennessee in the 1800s in Humphreys and Henderson counties.

http://groups.ancestry.com/group/60509555

Calling all Pruitts, Pruetts, and Prewitts and all other possible variations. There is a good open admission group on Ancestry site that are sharing a great deal of information about each other's trees, DNA, stories and pictures about the clan. We welcome men or women within the huge Pruitt/Pruett clan to join. The old stories about seven brothers of the boat from Ireland...coming from Wales...or being from Thomas Prewitt (English Tom 1616) are all being closely questioned and being found out not to be concrete as once thought. We have found at least 3 major Y DNA groups differences (R1, I1, J2) in the group. Obviously everyone could not come from Thomas...or seven mythical brothers. We welcome MtDNA results as well. All are welcomed!

Vollie W. Pruit

Vollie or Vallie (I've seen it spelt both ways but it's Vollie actually) Pruit was my great grandfather. I believe he was born in 1863 in Alabama and death date is Nov 12, 1943. He married Alice Leone Creque. He had a son also named Vollie who was KIA in the war in 43-44 not sure on date yet. Other children are Walter O, Greenville Otey, Laura Lee, Mamie Sue, Annie May, Evelyn and Hugh. At least that's all I can find so far. Seems to mostly be located in Fairfield, Pickens Alabama and Meridanville Alabama. Does anyone know of his parents? I can't seem to find any info beside a census where he was staying with a cousin when he was a teenager and his name was spelled Prewitt instead of Pruit on that record.

Please check out this Pruett/Pruitt site and ask for invite if interested. There are a lot of pictures, stories, DNA comparisons and genealogy information.
http://groups.ancestry.com/site/60509555/

We are trying to get all the information possible on the Pruitts. So far we have found 3 different Y DNA lines. We are trying to put together where each line might have started at.

I had a rudimentary 12 Y-DNA done about 5 or 6 years ago. It put me in the I1 Haplogroup (M253), my 12 markers match up perfectly with I1-N, which is Norse and has the highest showing in Sweden. From what I have read and researched the Pruitt lineage seems to be connected strongly to Normandy which would explain Gaul/Keltic as well as Norse findings. Anyone else come across anything similar?

Other Pruitts have found that they are R1b. One member of the Pruett group on Ancestry commmented: "I have been looking on ySearch today at all the Pruett/Pruitts and there are R1b, I1, and unknown haplogroups. Its possible as more people get tested that another haplogroup could emerge especially since many are unknowns. I did notice that both R1b and 1b people claim their lines back to Thomas of 1636..."

My direct Pruitt paternal line from Coy Pruitt (1916-1989) to John Prewitt (1587-1679)

Coy Sevon Pruitt
B: 27 May 1916 Wilkes, North Carolina, USA
D: 23 Mar 1989 Wilkes County, North Carolina, USA

Parents
Martin Pruitt
B: 1892 North Carolina, USA

and

Mary L Stone
B: 1896
D: 1956 Traphill, North Carolina, USA

Parents
Hardin Marcus Pruitt
B: 14 Apr 1860 USA
M: about 1890
D: 26 Feb 1927 USA

and

Margaret J Bryant
B: 4 Oct 1872 USA
D: 8 Jun 1956 USA

Parents
Hardin Pruitt
B: Nov 1826 USA
M: about 1853 USA
D: between 1903-1910 North Carolina

and

Lucinda Brooks
B: 4 May 1833 USA
D: 8 Jun 1899 USA

Parents
Joel Pruitt
B: 1786 North Carolina
D: 1860 North Carolina

and

Polly
B: 1788

Parents
Joseph Pruitt
B: 16 Jul 1754 Pittsylvania County, Virginia, USA
D: 1 Aug 1833 Ashe County, North Carolina, USA

and

Leah Moss

Parents
Joseph Pruitt
B: 1724 Henrico County, Virginia, USA
D: 1790 North Carolina, USA

and

Rachel
B: 1736 Halifax County, Virginia, USA

Parents
Uriah Prewitt
B: 1699 Virginia, USA
M: circa 1730
D: 6 Feb 1746 Virginia, USA

and

Elizabeth
B: 1703 Virginia, USA
D: Goochland, Virginia, USA

Parents
Henry Prewitt
B: 2 Sep 1654 USA
M: 20 Aug 1691 USA
D: 4 Jun 1722 USA

and

Rebecca Dobbs
B: 1654 Virginia, USA
D: Jan 1748 Virginia, USA

Parents
Thomas Prewitt
B: Dec 1616 United Kingdom
D: 1692 Virginia, USA

and

Sarah Lessene

Parents
John Prewitt (this could be a possible misspelling in British records)
B:15 Jan 1587 Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, United Kingdom
D: 1679 Charles River, Virginia

and

Margaret Pinernell
B: 1590 Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, United Kingdom
D: Dec 1616 Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, United Kingdom
William "Bill" Pruitt, "Pruit" or "Pruette"

I am looking for information on a William "Bill" Pruitt from the Lowends County Alabama area aka Farmersville Alabama. I am not sure of the correct spelling of his last name. He was my grandfather. To my knowledge he was a Black man whose mother may have been mulatto or a very light complected Black woman with hazel eyes. Bill had a son out of wedlock, with Luddie Bell Moorer whose name was, James Moorer, my father. Bill had other children by the last name "Hunter" some of which are still in the Alabama area. If there is any info, please contact me with "ANY" leads. I would be most appreciative.
