I found a lovely family portrait photo, taken in Pocomoke City, MD, and dated Feb 1897, of "Betsey Teagle and her daughter Harriet Purnell & the latter's two children, Miss Janie McMaster Purnell & Mr Alfred Pearce Dennis Purnell, all of Cedar Hall, Worcester Co. Md." Louisa Jane Dennis McMaster was my (white) great grandmother, and I believe she kept this picture w/her papers because the 2 children in the photo (baby girl and a boy of about 5) were named after her and her brother, Alfred P Dennis. I would love the descendants of this family to be able to have or at least see the picture -- it's posted on a public "Teagle" family tree I created, or contact me and I can send you a jpg file.

my husband was the son of Thomas Raymond Lewis. His father died when my husband was 10 years old in 1942. Thomas Raymond married Arleen and they had four children, Mildred, Raymond, Fredrick and Robert.

at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern.
She was a lifelong resident of Glassport. she was a member of Amity Presbyterian Church in Dravosburg. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Purnell.
She is survived by two sons, Vaughn P. Purnell, of New Bern, and Lynn C. Purnell and wife, Laurie, of Aurora, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Amity Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Richland Cemetery in Dravosburg. Arrangements by I. M. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Dravosburg. Hi the Manuel Vyeda that married Adelina Margaret Velasco is my husband's uncle. This is the information that I have.Lottie Velasco married ? Purnell. they had 3 daughters Louise Margaret, who married Manny Vyeda. They had 2 sons Raymond b April1, 1913 married Helen Gomes m 2 Mary Ferrier and Louis William m Louise Velasco. they had 3 daughters Louise, Linda and Roberta. Lena married Pete Burnell, they had 3 children William , Harry, Genevieve ( Dolly) Annie married Peter Rossi. The family doesn't speak very highly of Pete BURNELL. Don't know why.

Sorry it has taken awhile to respond to you. I have been gone for 3 weeks. I have a William J. Purnell but don't know if the "j" is correct. He was born 1858 in Ohio. Don't know if yours is related. I am looking for his grandfater. His father is also named William. The grandfather was married to a Permelia Webb. Does any of this ring a bell?

I'm Kathleen Lewis, daughter of Frank Lewis and grand-daughter of William Purnell Lewis. James Charles Lewis was my great-grandfather. I guess we must be related since we research the same family. I had printed your message some years back but have just taken up genealogy now as now I'm retired. I have quite a lot of information but am unable to find the parents of James Charles Lewis. His mother was supposed to be an Alice Bernard from Liverpool but on a census from 1880, it says his father was English and his mother Canadian. my name is Raisa Parnell, and my father's side of the family is Parnell/Purnell. my father's name is Cornelius J. Parnell Jr. (although he is not the one you mentioned in your post)and his father's name is Cornelius J. Parnell. they were both born in Alabama (Greensboro and Birmingham), and the rest of my father's family is in Birmingham, Alabama. i believe my grandfather spelled his last name 'Purnell' prior to his military service.

I have been trying to find the parents of Sylvester and thought that it was Sylvester and Mary. Do you have any documents to prove this. I can find Sylvester and Cornelia on the 1850 census with a daughter Mary C. In the 1860 census I can find Alphonzo, George W. and Mary Purnell living with Lorenzo and Cornely Fogwell. If Cornely Fogwell is their mother than Sylvester had to have died prior to 1860. I would share any information that I have.

Alphonso is my great grandfather from his second marriage to Hulda Lydia Nickerson. His first marriage was to Amanda Argo. (Lara is their daughter.) Oliver is my great uncle.

Alphonso married Amanda 18 Apr 1872 in Queen Anne's County, MD. Amanda died between 1873-1877. He married Hulda 17 Jan 1877 in Kent County DE. Hulda died 25 Dec 1924. Alphonso died in 1949.

Alphonso's ancestors:
Sylvester Purnell (1807-1871)and Cornelia Stants (or Stant)
Sylvester Purnell (1771-1851 and Mary Hargadine (1779-1840
William Purnell (1745-1820) and Ann Sylvester (1750-1804)

I have found very little information on any of the women except Hulda. If anyone has information on Amanda or Cornelia especially, I would appreciate it.

Please forgive me. I was not going for the gotcha moment. As I stated before I am doing research on the CW soldiers and sailors buried in Lawnside and part of the project is a short film. So I am excited when I meet descendants outside of the town.

Ok you got me. I cannot say with any certainty that your George and my Edward are connected. However,in search of my ancestry I found several Purnell men who served in the Civil War. While at the National Archives in Wash DC. Geo. W was one the many the CW veterans on the list from Worcester Co. MD that I was researching hoping to find my gggrand fathers dad. I posted my finding as it was written in their Pension files,in hopes that it would be a treasured nugget of information for another researcher. I'm a Purnell. My great grandfathter was (John))Edward Purnell. He signed his WWI draft registration Edward J Purnell, but his Maryland death certificate has him as John Edward. Martha Purnell was his mom. I'm still searching for his dad. The closest that I have been able to come to a matching Family, to his age, is this one from the 1880 U S Census, West Berlin, Worcester, Maryland National Archives Film # T9-0518, page 282A

She married an Edward Leonard Hill sometime prior to 1917, though I can find no record of this. They had three children - Rose Mary b 1917, d 1919: Violet May b.1919 d.1919 and Mabel Ivy b.1920.

Does anybody have a Doris Purnell in their family tree?

Lived in Cardiff, Wales
Married Frederick Speakman 1919
Has a sister called Cassie
and children called Ronald Frederick and William Charles.
The burial plot card I have says Doris Lawrence, but her maiden name was Purnell and married name Speakman. Did she remarry? Died 1964 aged 62. Or is this burial card not for this ancestor??

Any help greatly appreciated.

You hit a real nerve when you said your looks were compared to someone here. It's interesting that they would say such a thing. Do you know anything about your family having a Eastern Shore of MD connection? It would be very plausible since NC is only a hop, skip & jump from here. Tell me a little about your granny or whoever might have come from MD. The Army took a lot of the Shore to that area, some retired there, some married there, etc. We can get thisv settled pretty quick with a connection. I can tell you this, MD Eastern Shore has as many Purnells as NY has Joneses.Looking to hear from you,Gregory PURNELL

I have Harriet Purnell born about 1843 in Dungog, New South Wales, Australia who died in 1925 the daughter of John Purnell and Elizabeth.
Harriet married 2 Sep 1867 in Dungog to James Muddle born 1832 in Buxted, Sussex, England the son of Isaac Muddle and Amelia Gorringe, who died in 1897 in Queensland, Australia. They had at least one daughter Sarah Jane Muddle in 1873 in Dungog.
