Marion;

Thank you so very much for the photo and the Interment.net data. I will be adding the photo to the tree shortly, after I clean it up a bit. I gather from your email that you live in the area of the cemetery, it that correct?. I also noticed that Mary Austin Putney was not on the list for the Bowen Cemetery. Find A Grave only has 6 interments listed or the same cemetery.

You can contact me directly at sloan_family@msn.com if you wish. I will share as much data as I have. It will cut down on the number of folks who are reading the emails and allow direct attachments of data.
Marion; No I don't use Facebook and refuse to create an account as I am fairly old fashioned and concerned about "web presence" and the associated potential for data mining. My family tree uses the "private" feature on Ancestry. I had a terrible experience with an individual who gained access to my tree then proceeded to use it to spam my friends and contacts.

I would prefer that I get the photos directly at sloan_family@msn.com.

Yes I have one of Judith's siblings a brother, Caleb (1793- 1869. Other siblings Polly (192-1811); John (1792-1882); Patricia (1799- ?) and half-siblings of Henry (1812-1889) and Charlotte F (1817-1889) and of course Judith (1795-1858). Interesting story concerning Juet (Jewett) concerning his second family.

Thank you very much for the information!!! Do you live in the nearby area? If so, could you please take photo's of the stones of the family members buried there.

I noticed your name is BOWEN. Judith Putney Hunter, sister of Caleb and daughter of Mary "Polly" Austin Putney is my 2nd great grandmother. Although Bowen Cemetery is listed on Find A Grave it only shows 6 internments and there are not headstone or cemetery photos at all. The cemetery is not overly documented. I'm wondering id my 2nd great grandfather Samuel Walter Hunter is also buried there.
Thank you again.
William married Mary Cushing and had George in 1853. I think George owned the Elmwood House of Franconia in between 1893-96.
Does this ring any bells for you?

Just reupped my subscription for another year so I will be on here for at least that long.

Also, the greatest resource to me, for really checking the facts, was google books, when you type in PUDNEY, or PUTNEY in Mass. during the 1600 and 1700's you find a wealth of historical documents.

Hope that helps

CYNDI

Good Morning Susan,

Welcome to the very long and very(at times) confusing PUTNEY family tree.
My line begins with my father David Putney, his father Floyd Putney, his father Zack Putney, his father John Putney, his father Isaac Putney, His father Joseph Putney, his father Joseph Putney (brother to your Samuel) and thier father JOHN.
Making John my 6th great grandfather. Which seems really wierd to me, considering he lived over 300 years ago, but everyone in my line is always a youngest child of very large families.
Anyway WELCOME and happy searching, I have been at this since I was 15 and 25 years of of searching has been alot of confusing fun.

CYNDI

John Putney (Pudney) was born in Salem Mass in 1637. He died in 1712 in Salem, Mass. He was married to Judith Cooke who was born in 1643 in Essex, Mass and died I believe in Essex England between 1700-1712. I don't have exact information for her. John Pudney's father was also John Pudney but I don't have accurate information for him yet. I have a tentative date of 1621 birth year in Massachusetts but unsure if this is correct. No date of death. Beyond John Pudney, I don't have any other information on our family. John Pudney was my 7th Great Grandfather.

I don't know why I came up as "prestonoia." I am "prestonoid." Jay Preston. My big tree has no Isaacs or any John between 1683 and 1885. Sorry about that.
But I am not the one with the family Bible.
Incidentally I have a copy of John of 1630's signature showing his name as "Pudney." However, that still does not resolve the mystery on why his wife (Cooke) is so well known back in England, yet nobody is sure about John's folks. I still subscribe to the "Pitney" hypothesis.

Good Morning,
I know this is a super old post, but if you are still at this address and still willing to share the information from the family bible, I would love a copy.
My g.g.grandfather John was the last born child of Isaac and Dorcus ( McIntire) Putney. And quite possibly, she died giving birth to him, or died shortly after his birth.
Most PUTNEY family members are not even aware John exsisted, would like to know if he is mentioned in the family bible.
We do have court papers with him listed as a small child in 1803, given in bondage to a Levi Davis, along with the other children of Isaac and Dorcus Putney: Sarah, Dorcus, & McIntyre.
Isaac Jr. ( NOT Isaac Sr.)comes for them later and gets them back from Levi Davis. and somewhere in all of that we loose track of Sarah.
ANY help would be great.
CYNDI

As far as I know, noboby has tracked John Putney (Pudney) beyond his arrival on these shores. I have been unable to locate the ship he came in on. Part of problem is that he is said to have adopted "Putney" surname when he arrived. This may (or not) be a representation of his home town. It is also the reason why many conclude that "Putney" is the correct spelling. Putney is a place name and common name (with some arms registered) in England.

Seeking information on the above named person Juet (Jewett) Putney. Our research is showing Juet (Jewett) born about 1768 possibly in Concord or Dunbarton New Hampshire. We do know he married a Mary (Polly) Austin 1791 in Concord New Hampshire. In 1792 he purchased from Daniel Putney of Dunbarton, Hillsborugh, New Hampshire. Juet Putney resided in Concord, Rockingham, New Hampshire. He purchased Lot # 52. as recorded in Town Record book #3 pages 55 and 56. His name was spelled JUET on the Deed. We also know that in 1805 he deeded land to his children Polly, Caleb, Judith, John and Patty of Peacham. The deed reads “Juet Putney of St. Armand in Bedford Co, Provence of Lower Canada. To his children Polly, Caleb, Judith, John and Patty of Peacham.” Provisions of the deed included for wife Polly. We have been unable to trace him with proof beyond the 1805 date however there is a Juet Putney in Salem, Ashtabula, Ohio on the 1830 US Federal Census. Does anyone have connecting proof that the Quebec and Ohio Juet Putney are one in the same…

Hi, My name is Cynthia Putney Duran, Nice to know there is some extended family out there. We were sure for years that this PUTNEY line was, or had died out except for us. The story of Dorcus and Isaac is quit fasinating and still many holes and unknowns. What we do know is that according to marriage records in Canada, Isaac Sr.,Isaac Jr. and McIntyre Putney all marry into the Henery Stader family(Elizabeth, Nancy and Sarah, Elizabeth was the mother of Nancy and Sarah) in the late 1700's and later move into St Lawrence Lisbon NY. Prior to the PUTNEY men leaving Mass. and moving into Canada, Dorcus dyes and the 3 youngest PUTNEY children, Nancy Sarah and John are given in Gaurdianship in 1803 to a Levi Davis. Issac Jr later returns to Mass. and regains Nancy and John, we are not sure what happened to Sarah. Issac Jr. and Nancy (Strader) raise these siblings. John marries a Marian A. (not sure of last name)lives in Elgin Illinois. Not sure where he dies, possibly Elgin no record yet. Nancy marries a Paul Van Wicklin and lives and dies in Elgin Illinois.Have exact dates at home, I am at work now, please feel free to contact me at Endresultsllc@yahoo.com CYNDI
