Not counting male Queens who have "Ross" for a middle name, and there are posibbly as many more as are shown here, the following are pretty much the "Ross Queens" we have with which to work.

Ross & Frances (Younger) Queen.

Ross Leberu Queen born April 16 1852 in Harrison Township, Gallia County, Ohio.

Ross W., born 19 Mar 1875 Clyde, Kansas, son of William Henry and Susan Isabelle (Ross) Queen & Jessie A. (Perry) (Anderson) Queen.

Ross, born 1878 Gallia County, OH , & Effie (Hulbert or McGilespie or ?) Queen.

Ross Lewis Queen, Born 18 May, 1895, Palatine, West Virginia, son of Lorentz Crawford & Cora Elizabeth (Bonnett) Queen.

Ross N. Queen born 1917 Kansas.

I have found 2 things for Ross Queen. 1. Is a marriage record To Effie McGlispie. He was married before but his wife is dead. His age is listed as 34 so he would have been born about 1867 + or - 1 year. In this record Ross says his father is Cornelius Queen and his mother is Missouri Gilliland.
I do not think his mother was Missouri Gilliland Nor his father Cornelius Queen son of William W. and Rebecca A. (Brooks) Queen. Missouri Gilliland is my great grandmother, wife of James Brooks Queen. I have all the children born to Cornelius and James and none were named Ross.

2. A death Certificate for Ross Leberu Queen. His birth date is given as April 16 1852 and born in Harrison Township Gallia County. Were there two Ross Queen's?
His father is listed as UNKNOWN and his mother as Sarah (no maiden name given). Information was given by Mrs. Alta Queen.
He Died October 9, 1950 and was buried in Pine Street Cemetery, Gallipolis Gallia, Ohio.

I know there were other Queen in Gallia and Meigs Counties and there has never been a connection to them and William W. Queen and his ancestors.
There was another Cornelius Queen, a brother to William W. Queen, he moved to Washington County, Missouri in late 1869 and died there a few months after arriving in 1870.
Any additions or corrections to what I have given would be welcomed.

The best information I have found to date shows Theodore C. Queen is the son of Alfred Gillian? & Elsie Clara (Roller)Queen -- as a matter of interest, this was Alfred's second marriage.

Alfred Queen was son of Cornelius & Louisa J. Queen; son of William White Queen & Rebecca Ann (Brooks) Queen; son of John J Queen & Elizabeth (White) Queen; son of Charles Jr & Mary (Haley) Queen.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the quick reply Bob. Do you know anything about Wade or Calvin's mother and father. I am guessing they came from Rutherford County NC. Why did Avery live with Calvin and Kissie? Was it due to the number of children that Susan and Wade had after their marriage? I am also puzzled about how Calvin/Kissie/Plato, Caroline (Calvins sister) Avery and a 2 year old D J Brady ended up in Cleveland NC (Rowan County) when all other relatives appear to have been from Gaston, Lincoln, Rutherford County. I found this from the 1880 Census in Cleveland NC

Thanks Dan
Calvin was the younger brother of Avery Queen's step-father (Wade Hampton Short). While I'm researching the Deviney's, I like to collect info on the parents, in-laws and first generation of children by all the female Deviney's so that intermarried families. Don't know if John Helm is still doing research on his family as I haven't heard from him in several years. Best wishes,
Bob DeViney
I show Avery Queen age 17 living with Calvin Short and Kiziah Short in Cleveland NC in the 1880 census. My grandfather, Plato was 1 year old at that time. Calvin is my GGrandfather, Caroline Short, his sister lived with them at the time. Kiziah (Kissie) was buried at St John Luthern Church in Cherryville, NC (1928) I have no records of where Calvin is buried or his father. I think Kissie was daughter of Kiser Barrett b. 1860, no other records. Hope you can help with this.

Clara,
Thanks for the reply. Just a couple of questions.
Where was your William Born & how do you know this place and date? Census info?, family tradition?
What was your William's father'e name, dates, and places?
Are you using a genealogy software program to organize your information? Which one?

Most, if not all, Queen researchers go back to a MacQueen in their family. And many have been able to "Jump the Pond" back to Scotland or England in their MacQueen family. So, knowing all you can about your MacQueen, McQueen connections becomes important.

There IS a connection to our families, somewhere, some time.

My own MacQueen/Queen family came first to New England. Where some turned west to Ohio, and others went south to Virginia, West Virginia, then to North Carolina, Georgia, before turning West. Others came first to Canada, and still others to North Carolina. Queens can now be found in almost every state in America.

write back soon.

Jim

Jim I am fairly new to genealogy so please forgive me for mistakes. My William Queen was born 1790 and died 1850. His son was John H. Queen who married Nancy Cumming. I have some information on William C. Queen but I don't think he is my William. William's dad was MacQueen and I have quite a bit of info on him. I have hints for William Queen but no proof unless you consider his son John H. I do not know how to get my info to you. Please tell me and I will let you see my Queen line.
Jim,
Thank you for the information, I will do more research, I have great photograph of Aunt Lucy when she was about that age. She was the same height as my father (6'1"). She was like a second mother to me so it is interesting what you don't know about people. She died of lung cancer on 6 Apr 1886 in Chase City, Mecklenburg, Va, but was buried in Richmond Virginia next to another one of her sister's Lillie
Ann Queen Griggs.
Regards,
Connie

Hi Jim,
James Alfred Queen's will was probated 17 Nov 1883 in Cleveland, North Carolina. That would have put him around 31 years old. In his will he left everything to his wife Mary "Polly" Jarrell Queen. I have a copy of the will that I got from the Raleigh State Archives. I also have a copy of the marriage bond for them as well. My great great grandmother,"Polly" Queen, married a second time to a James Franklin Randle, but when she died 16 Sep 1934 her obituary does not give her last name as Randle, but as Queen. I have copies from the newspaper. I am not surprise at this because she only had one child, my great grandfather Julius A Queen and he probably was the person giving the information for the death certificate.
I am interested in trying to find more information on Charles Queen...James Alfred's father and his mother. I have census record, but would like to know where they were buried and if Charles Queen had a will. It would have possibly named James Alfred as a child.
I am always willing to scan and e-mail copies of any of the above if you need it for your records. I also have information on all of Julius Queen's children to include pictures. If this is something that you might want you can e-mail me at conngrant@centurytel.net.
Regards,
Connie

Hello,
Lucy Bell Queen lived next door to me while I was growning up. I knew that she was married to a Don Ledford and had been divorced from him prior to moving next door to us in the 1960's. My mom has her divorce paper somewhere in the attic...so that could reference her first marriage. If you have any dates or other info,it would be a great help.
Regards,
Connie

Connie,
I have found the Native American Indian connection in your family.
Julius A. had a daughter named Lucy Bell Queen who married Homer Astor Rogers, a native American Indian.
If I'm not mistaken Lucy was your Aunt, a sister to your mother Donie (Queen) Wilson.

This connection doesn't give you or I any Indian blood, but it is an Indian connection.

It seems like this Rogers name has shown up in the Queen line somewhere else. I'll have to find out if there is any connection there also.

For dates and records contact me and I'll pass them along.

Jim

Yes I do. James Alfred Queen was the son of Charles Queen and Martha Patsy Goins. James went by the name Alfred Queen and he married Mary "Polly" Jarrell. Their child was Julius Alexander Queen. This was the only child by this marriage as James "Alfred" Queen died bef 17 Nov 1883 in Cleveland, NC. My Grandmother was the daughter of Julius Alfred Queen and Amanda Crotts Queen. Her name was Donie Alice Queen and she married Eddie Lawrence Wilson. It was Donie's daughter Ann that told the story of having and "Indian Grandmother".
Connie

I have a Julius A. Queen in my family son of Henson & Zelpha Queen. I don't have a James Alfred, but do have a number of James (NMI) Queens.
I also have Meridith Queen married to Jane Newton, who had a son Charles who married Martha Goins, but no son James Alfred.
Are these your family?
