Seeking information of the father of Loftin/Laughlin Quinn born 1712 in Carteret County, North Carolina. Loftin married Mary Canaday c.1748. I believe his father may have been named Enoch Quinn and his father David Quinn who came to colonial America in 1685. David was a servant of Thomas Webb who received a land grant from King George. I believe David married one of the Webb daughters because Thomas Webb left provisions for his grandson, Enoch Quinn in his will. If you have information on this matter, please e-mail me at betlndr@aol.com.
Thanks For your reply!!!

Betty Quinn Landrum

I did not find a stone for patrick Quinn while I was in the cemetery, but this does not mean he doesnt have one. I am doing a marker for Agnes Quinn who died Aug. 18, 1955 and she is suppose to be buried on top of her grandmother Mary Quinn who died in Aug 1897. I was hopeing to find information on mary's birth and death date, so I can add this info to the marker.

John Quinn (b.1815) and wife Hannora/Hannah (b. 1825)

I am part of a small group researching Irish railroad workers who worked on the Blue Ridge Railroad from 1850-1858. John Quinn and Hannora are listed on the 1850 census in Albemarle County, VA. He is listed as a stone mason. The family is also listed in 1860 and 1870 census living in Weston, Lewis County, West VA. He might have been working there as a stone mason on the Weston Insane Asylum building. While in Virginia, they had 2 children die and they are buried in Albemarle County. Later, children are listed as John b. 1852, Mary b. 1859, and Edward Carter b. 1844 lives with them. I would like to have any additional information on this family and descendents. To see some of the work that has been done on this research, see clannmhor.org.

I am looking for information on John F. Quinn. B 1862 London Ontario, emigrated to Ridgewood New Jersey 1889, listed in the 1910 census for Ridgewood New Jersey. After that the trail gets cold, I do know know that he lived with his sister Margaret Elizabeth Vining after the death of her husband James B Vining in 1902. Margaret died 1937 in Jersey City NJ but what happened to John F. Quinn is a mystery. His occupation, in one of the censuses that I have found was a carpenter. Given the fact that he was 48 in 1910 I don't think that he ever married but then again I could be wrong. Any help would be great.
Hi: The two in the subject line appear in Phoeniz in the 1930 census. I'd love to contact their descendents. Their children are John D., Mary M., Eileen F. and Elizabeth. They met amd married in Leadville CO. John was from CO and Margurite was born in Parkersburg WVA. Margurite's maiden name was Dorsey. I'm from a MD branch of the same family. Not sure why there are two @@ in the email address I posted above. It's just dorsey@msmary.edu. Thanks!

In the 1870 census (Decatur, Van Buren, Michigan) there is a Patrick Quinn family that has a Johanna O'Connell and children living with them. Does anybody know anything about either of these?

I am Grand-daughter of Nora Quinn. Her parents lived in Webster and Dudley Mass. I was born in Clinton Mass in 1939 The Quinn family I am connected to came from Kilkee,County Clare, Ireland in the early 1900's. 1905 maybe, can't exactly trace the date. I have found tombstones of some of them that I am directly related to, in Dudley..information is very difficult to find on this elusive family..

Obit of Michael Quinn 1925

From the Chatsworth Plaindealer
Chatsworth,Livingston,Illinois

MICHAEL QUINN
SEPTEMBER 17, 1925

The entirely unexpected and sad news reached Chatsworth Tuesday (Sept.15) night that Michael Quinn had died suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mr. L.A. Harmon, in Gary, Indiana, that evening.
Mr. Quinn, who made his home with his son, Will, in Chatsworth, had gone to Gary for a brief visit during the absence of Mrs. Will Quinn. While Mr. Quinn had complained of pains in his chest and it had been noticeable that he was growing more feeble lately he ate a good supper Tuesday evening.
He walked into an adjoining room from the dining room and sank into a chair unconscious. Just at this time his son, Will, called over the phone from Chicago Heights to ascertain if his father was all right or wished to accompany him home from Chicago, and was told of his father's condition. He drove hurriedly to Gary but Mr. Quinn was dead when he arrived. Heart failure is attributed as the cause of death.
The body was brought by hearse and taken to the Quinn home. Funeral services will be held Friday forenoon at 9 o'clock in SS. Peter & Paul's church. The burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery beside his wife who died January 2, 1924.
The subject of this sketch was born at Killeter, Ireland, October 31, 1847, and came to America in 1869 and located at Ottawa, Illinois where he resided until 1875 when he came to Strawn and located on a farm nearby. He was married on March 17 of the same year to Miss Hanna Keon at Ottawa who was also a native of Ireland and came to America in 1873. Mr. and Mrs. Quinn continued to reside on a farm until 1907 when they retired to Chatsworth. Following the death of Mrs. Quinn he resided with his son, Will.
Five children survive. They are: Mrs. Catherine Crawford, of Alexandria, South Dakota; Mrs. Rose Harmon, of Gary; Will C. Quinn, of Chatsworth and Frank and John, of near Strawn. One son, Thomas, died January 21, 1917.
There also survive a brother and sister in California and a brother and sister in Ireland and twenty-one grandchildren.
Mr. Quinn was a pioneer of Livingston county, settling here when the country was a vast prairie. He was a man universally respected for his honesty and integrity and pleasing personality.
He was a familiar figure along the business street and his kindly greeting will be much missed.

From the Chatsworth Plaindealer
Chatsworth,Livingston,Illinois

MRS. MICHAEL QUINN
JANUARY 3, 1924

Mrs. Michael Quinn, on of the pioneer residents of this community and a most beloved woman, died at her home in Chatsworth Wednesday (Jan. 2) morning about 5:45 o'clock after many weeks of suffering from a malignant tumor which baffled the skill of the best of physicians. Mrs. M. Quinn (Hanna Keon) was born in Pettigoe, Donegal county, Ireland, April 18, 1853. She came to America in 1873, and lived at Ottawa, Ill. On March 17, 1875 she was united in marriage to Michael Quinn, also of Ottawa, and moved to a farm near Strawn, where they resided until 1907, when they moved to Chatsworth, where they have since resided.
Mrs. Quinn was beloved by all who knew her for her kindly disposition and her death will be mourned by many.
To mourn her loss, she leaved her husband and the following children: Mrs. Catherine Crawford, of Alexandria, S.
There is very little I can tell you about my grandfather Bernard Quinn. His parents were Charles Quinn and Elizabeth Breen. (This information was found on his marriage certificate) Bernard insisted that "born in county Donegal, Ireland" be inscribed on his gravestone.B.1865 D.1946 Woburn, Mass. Naturalized in 1895. Spoke and was literate in English. His family stated that he came from a large family...mostly boys. There was a Charlie Quinn who used to visit him. The Quinns were related to the Woburn Tobins and very good friends with the Gallaghers.

Pattie, I think we have connected once before when I posted my Martin and we couldn't find a connection. Family history says he came from County Sligo. I first find him in Minnesota in 1856 but my grandfather was born in Pennsylvania in 1852 so I know they came through there.
I would love it if we could find a connection and maybe you have it now?
He died in Traverse Co, Browns Valley in 1906.
I have never found any other family except for his children.
Hope to hear from you soon.
We are part of the Quinn DNA project through Family Tree DNA. Have not found a first degree match at the 37 marker group, hoping in time we will.

Some of my Quinn family lived in the Woburn area in the 1800's. They were from Ballintra, Rosilly Bar, Greaghs, The Oucht, and several other small villages/towns in that area of Donegal.

My gr-grandfather James was born in 1828 in Ballintra, and came to America in 1848, docking in Boston. He stayed in Boston/Charlestown until about 1857, and then headed to Minnesota.

He had several brothers, sisters, and cousins who also came to Boston. Some of them stayed in Massachusetts, and several ended up in Woburn.

Would love to hear from any who have Quinn lines in these areas. patty719@msn.com

Please email me at patty719@msn.com

These are my Quinn's - we think. My gr-gr-uncle William Quinn is buried in Scott county, MN in a family plot. Several years ago when a cousin went for a printout of the cemetery, especially the family plot, it was discovered that there was an additional unmarked grave that contained a Martin Quinn.

Up to this moment, we never knew we had a Martin in the family. More research has shown us that a large number of the Quinn's who were in the Minneapolis area came from County Donegal; and that they were related to our Quinn family. I have quite a bit of information on them, including back to Ireland.

Hope to hear from you soon! Patricia Quinn Meigs

info from old letter on Quinn

Direct quote from the letter written by a John B. QUINN, who lived in Swampscott, Massachusetts when he wrote it. The letter was dated June 25, 1912:

"My father, John Quinn, was born at Golagh, County Donegal, in 1833. His father, Nathaniel, was born in Carrick, County Donegal, in 1807 0r 1808, whose brothers and sisters were named Harry, Hugh, John, Margaret, Mary, Hugh, William, and two more children (names unknown) who were born there in 1820 to 1824. My father’s brothers, John and Hugh emigrated to America in 1830 or 1840. One lived for a few years in Dedham, Mass., but moved “West” (probably the Middle West now) with his brother Hugh 1850 0r 1860. It would be a great source of pleasure if I could hear from any one named Quinn whose father or mother, or they themselves for that matter, were born in either Golagh, Bailintra, Donegal, or Carrick, in the County of Donegal."

I am searching for descendants of this family. This group is related to my Quinn line. My gr-grandfather was James Quinn, born 1828 in Ballintra, Donegal. He immigrated to America, arriving in November 1848, docking in Boston. He stayed in Boston until 1857, and then migrated to Erin, Rice County, MN. James died on 7 November 1884 in Minneapolis.

Please email me at patty719@msn.com thank you.

Stanley Quinn (Born in England, Drowned in Ontario, Canada, 1926)

Stanley Quinn was born in England and came to Canada in the mid-1920s. He was drowned accidentally while attempting to reach the gold mining district of Red Lake, Northwestern Ontario, in May 1926. His gold prospecting partner, Sydney Stebbings, also was drowned. I wonder if there is anyone who knows of this man and would like to share information?

I would like to know more about these brothers. I am related to an Edward, possibly a member of your group of brothers. Family lore also says he came from Limerick, but looking there is difficult without more details because there are many Quinns. But a family of 5 boys named etc, does narrow the field a bit. I also have some info somewhere on ship passengers possibly for this group. I'll see if I can find it.

Anna Quinn, daughter of Daniel Quinn and Mary Davis b 1839: help

Hi,

I have a 2nd great grandmother Anna S. Quinn, who emigrated to the US (Chatham NY) in about 1861. Her death certificate lists her parents as Daniel Quinn and Mary Davis. Griffiths lists about 80 Daniel Quinns, but I cannnot find any information that would be more specific.

Does anyone have any potential connections in their tree or elsewhere?

thanks,
John

Re: Woburn Quinns from Donegal

I have very little information on the Quinns of Donegal. My Quinns came from the city of Donegal. My grandfather, Bernard Quinn b.1865 d.1946. immigrated 1889, naturlized 1899. Parents were Charles Quinn and Elizabeth (Breen)Quinn. It was said that he came from a large family 12-13 children)--MOSTLY boys. My grandmother said a Charlie Quinn (a dandy with celluloid collar and walking stick used to visit my grandfather)?was it a brother???. Bernard was literate and could speak gaelic.
