POW/MIA Korean War

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Graham County, Arizona as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: MANUEL MUNOZ QUINTANA
Born: 1930
Date of loss: July 27, 1950 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Hi,
I have ordered this Copyright book (New Mexico San Buenaventura de Cochiti Church) to hopefully find my G-G-Grandmother baptism for Indian Tribe, no such luck; but that doesn’t mean it was a waste of money, because maybe your relative is in it. The date extends from 1736-1873. So I’ll do a look up in this book for you. It has 13 Quintana Families listed.

Obituary: Jose "Joe" Quintana

Quintana, Jose "Joe", a friend to all, cherished his community and had a special passion for reaching out to the hearts of people. Seeing the best and encouraging others was a natural gift. Words like, "Keep the faith," was his everyday motto. His contagious and positive attitude touched many and propelled him to do great works in his lifetime. Born in Bernalillo, New Mexico on March 19, 1942, he was destined to be a SJC citizen because his birthday fell on the same date that the swallows returned to Capistrano. He remembered hearing the song, "When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano…" in his early childhood and longed to visit the town where the song originated. Serving in the Army and stationed in Germany from 1960-63 as a Sergeant E-5 he also played on the Army's Basketball League. He was trained as a German interpreter and was fluent in Spanish. After he left the Army he soon found his calling as a businessman. He moved to San Juan Capistrano in 1970 with his wife and two young daughters. He quickly became involved in the city's growth and was owner of a local insurance business. He was devoted to the community and served as Parks and Recreation Commissioner and in the Chamber of Commerce. He formed Charities Best in 1981, a non-profit organization that has given to mainly South County Hospice agencies and disabled children in the area. He was Chamber President in 1981-1983 and Citizen of the Year in 1986. An accomplished distance runner he raced in five marathons including one in Berlin, West Germany. His love for athletics compelled him to start an adult citywide basketball league as well as coached little league baseball and girls softball teams. Always eager to learn more about the world he enjoyed traveling with his family to far off places. Today, these trips are treasured memories for both he and his family. He is survived by two daughters, Andrea Q. Verde and Cristina Q. Madory; five grandchildren. Thomas, Cristina, Andrew, Anthony and Lauren; three sisters and a brother, Helen Schray, Linda Villarino, Francis Terrill and Richard Quintana-Sena; also, longtime girlfriend and companion, Pamela Sloan. Services will be held for Joe Quintana at the Mission Basilica in San Juan Capistrano at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2009.

Published in the Orange County Register on 2/19/2009
He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, and friend; was always there to help anyone but never asked for anything in return. He enjoyed spending time at the mountains, he loved to fish, hunt, and he especially loved to spend time with his wife, MaryLee Quintana; daughters: Brenda Quintana, Lydia Perez; son-in-law, Aaron Perez; and granddaughters: Elisa Marie Perez and Nicolette Arianna Perez. His passion was cars and was known as an excellent mechanic. We love you and we will dearly miss you.
