I am looking for any information regarding my Grandfather, James, birthdate 4/17/ 1907.
His parents were John and Nora Quirk. I have a baptismal record dated 4/28/1907 from St Mary's church in Rahway. My mother, told me that my grandfather and his brother John were at Boystown and their sister went to a convent not far away. I am trying to find any information regarding his stay with you or any insight about his parents and why he was sent to the orphanage.

There is also Sarah Ryan living with William and Ellen (howard) Quirk on the 1850 Census in Franklin County, NY. I am trying to figure out the connection but there are other Ryans who also came to this very small communtiy and are buried in the Saint Rose of Lima Cemetary in Franklin County, NY. You can access the cemetary transcription page via the website. They lived in Sugar Bush. These Quirks are my ancestors.

Best Regards,
Kelly Quirk

The family story goes that Patrick Quirk (b.1840s) came from Galway with his brother to either Wilmington or New York, but settled in Philadelphia around 1865. Patrick's brother went back to Ireland soon after as he loved a girl he left behind. Patrick stayed on in Phila and married Isabella Clark in 1870...I found a few Patrick Quirks in Galway, but since I don't know the brother's name, I can't be sure. Based on popular naming convention, the brother's name might have been Denis...which was Patrick and Isabelle's oldest son. Anyone heard this tale in their Quirk family?

I'll check my data base, but off hand a David does not sound familiar. Were you able to acquire an obit or death cert stating that he was from Co. Tipperary? Is Charlestown a rural area? If so, there may be a small-town newspaper which would have carried his obit. Most of my good luck on origins were found in death certs and/or obits.

I'll get back to you hopefully this weekend. Diane in Baltimore, MD

Hello Kate,

My wife is descended from Nora's brother Luke. I've been trying to sort out the Quirk's of Waltham for some time... only recently I found that most of the Waltham families that I had been charting were children of Thomas Quirk and Maragaret Donahue... I do agree however that these Cloonoo Quirk(e)s are likely related. Andrew and Thomas are likely some degree of cousins? Luke was my wife's great grandfather, he settled after his marriage in New Haven, CT. I can be contacted off board at ranaldthecalf@att.net

Regards,

James

Hi, I'm trying to find any information on an Edward Quirk, originally from Dublin, Ireland and born about 1826. Edward is shown on the 1851 England Census as a lodger with the "Wall" family and the same year married Mary Ann Wall. I believe this may be my great great great grandfather but I am finding it difficult locating any real information on him that would verify - Mary Quirk was born to Edward and Mary in/about 1851 (no birth record found to date) and went on to marry my great great grandfather Patrick Collins. If any body has any informaton on Edward Quirk that they can pass along it would be much appreciated

Hi James,

I'm neither researching or related to the Quirkes but am somewhat of a specialist on the parish and am always delighted to see how our sons and daughters thrived in the U.S. and elsewhere. What would you like to know?

You're likely already aware that Mich Quirke held lands at the parish in 1825 (Tithe valuation), and Michael Quirk held 42 aces of farmland with a house and further 12 acres off Cecilia M Walsh in 1855 at a rent of £18 (Griffith Valuation).

Like much of Clostoken-Kilconierin, the Quirke's were strong supporters for reform and rights for Irishmen and J Quirk and J Quirke were noted contributers to the Irish Parliamentary Fund in 1895. It is often overlooked that this parish and indeed this area of the parish was to the fore of so much political activity nationally in the decades at the end of the nineteenth century.

The 1901 and 1911 census returns (available on-line) show
Head Wife Children/(Other)
Andrew	Catherine John, Mary (dau-in-law) & Andrew (g'son).

Head Wife Children/(Other)
John Mary-A Andrew, Mary, Norah, Bridget, Michael.

Hope the above is of interest. If you've any questions on the area, let me know.
I do not believe that my Thomas had a brother John.

My Thomas b Cashel area Co. Tipperary had a sister Mary who married David Lonergan b Cashel area Co. Tipp. The Lonergans lived in Addison, Washington Co. WI near to Thomas Lisbon, Waukesha Co. Waukesha. Both families came to WI in the mid 1840s. There was also a brother Edmund who went to Texas in about 1834. Many of the letters that Edmund received are held by the family in TX and some by a library in Texas. The WI relatives Mary and Thomas along with a brother William who stayed in Tipperary are often mentioned in the letters held by the library. It seems unlikely to me that another brother in WI would not have been mentioned.

My direct email address is maryquirkt at yahoo dot com if you want to continue this directly.

Mary Quirk

Born ireland in 1800, married Katherine Dormer.

My GGGrandma is John's daughter Mary, born in Beetown, WI in 1845. There was a sister born in Cresco, IA in 1852, but I have been unable to find any records from Cresco. Another sister Margaret married John Cahill. I believe the Cahills were in SD.

I would love to hear of any information you could add!

Do you know of any siblings of your GGGrandfather? I have a GGGGrandfather John Quirk born in 1800 in Ireland, died in SD. His daughter Mary (my gggrandma) was born in Beetown WI in 1845. I believe they were in WI as lead miners, but not sure on that.

Descendents of Michael Quirk and Margaret (Connors/O'Connor) Quirk North Adams MA

Hi I'm hoping to build out my Quirk line from North Adams MA with descendants to the current day.

Michael Quirk b. 1862 and his wife Margaret Connors/O'Connor b. 186x (spelled variously in birth and death records) came to the US from Ireland sometime in late 1880's. They had 13 children divisible into 3 groups: a group born in Ireland that came with them to MA and then I lose track of, a group that died young, and a final wave that are easily traceable and include my great-grandfather John Francis Quirk b. 1899, his brother Patrick, and sister Aunt Bedelia (who was by all accounts a lively gal!).

If you are a descendant of Michael Quirk and Margaret O'Connor, please let me know!

Also I believe his marriage record to Alice shows her maiden name as Brennon and that she was born in Nashua New Hampshire. They had at least 7 children together.

I believe Patrick Quirk was my great-grandfather's brother. My mother is Maureen Quirk born in New Jersey. Her father was Carl John Quirk born 1917 in North Adams. His father was John F Quirk born 1899 in North Adams. John and Patrick's parents were Michael and Margaret Quirk. I have posted Patrick Quirk's WWI registration card to his record in my family tree. You'll see all of the Quirks and related families (Quinns, Jordans) in that Southview plot. I haven't been there myself but it is constantly referenced. The North Adams Transcript is a great resource and searchable here.

Are you related to Patrick Quirk?
