Sounds like we could be related. My great grandfather was Jesus Maria Quiroz. His daughter is Elvira Quiroz who is my grandmother and her son is Antonio Martinez, my dad. I know I still have a lot of family in El Paso. Sounds like we are in the same family.

Renee Martinez-Carr

Andrea: Don't worry, I believe all genealogists are a little crazy. Why else would we spend so much time pursuing answers to questions that only lead to more questions needing more answers. Don't worry, it will make more sense to you as you delve into your family history. I did notice that you are new and I will be more than glad to assist you. I have been researching my family genealogy for nearly 20 years. Thank you for your email and I will correspond with you directly via your email address. Respectfully, Rick
Hello Rick and thank you soo much for responding. Yes, my great grandfather was Policarpio Guerra married to Eusevia who was my dear grandmother Caroline's parents. I'm very, very new to this and the very few names I have are written on a piece of scrape paper so now it's time to invest on a notebook! I don't know how this works but I'm giving you my email address and if this site permits that I'd love to hear from you. My name is Andrea Palma Bartling and I may be reached at lacrazyindian@gmail.com Please don't let my email address scare you off as I'm only crazy part of the time!
Tambien conoci a mi tio Luis y a mi tio Chico.
Muchas Gracias.
Miriam Gallego
gallego_miriam@hotmail.com

Hi Francesca,
I will scan some info and email it to you.

Yes, Antonio Mergil Villarreal and wife Maria Juana de la Garza are Petra's parents. They md 11-21-1801 in Salinas Victoria, NL. They were from Pueblito.

I have copies of their marriage and christenings. You can print these directly from the online LDS site now.

Petra Ygnacia Villarreal had a sister named Maria de Jesus Villarreal. One of her sons married the daughter of Petra, Teresa. So they were first cousins. They, in turn, had Modesta and Jesusita Jimenez. Modesta being my ancestor.

Yes the Latter Day Saints is the same library I am referring to but I would go to a physical bldg in our area and order the films from there. Then I would go and look through all the films. Now you can do this online:

https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/index#uri=https%3A...
I would need to scan my info that is on hard copy. I found all this info several years back on the films from the LDS.
I just returned from a long three week trip to Spain. I will write to you when I have more time.

Henry Richards

PS To day there about 30 Quiroz's in the phone book in Madrid and Barcelona and about the same number of Smith. This number varies between 12 and 35 each time I look. That indicates they are temporary people from other country.

Quiroz is a common name in Portugal.
Need clarification as to who Amparo Ortega was actually married to? There are two versions, one from the Parra family and another from the Nunez family, as to who Amparo Ortega was married to. Was it Antonio Parra, or, Janino Parra? Any proof?
Thank you.

Lorenzo

Hello, It has been About a decade since someone has responded back to this post. I hope I get an answer soon. I too am looking for my ancestors of the Espinosa Family. I am looking for Information on Victoria Espinosa or ESpinoza who i found out through a birth certificate of her son Blas Olvera. Victoria married Antonio Olvera they had a child Blas olvera. They lived in Sonora. Their son was born in Arizona circa 1896-1897. Their son was raised by Anselma Espinosa I am not sure if that is her last name married or maiden. WHen i saw this post it gave me hope that they may be sisters. I do not know how it ended up that Anselma raised Blas. What happened to Victoria and Antonio. Blas then married Ysable Enriquez and had Two Children Maria de Jesus and Celia Olvera. Celia Olvera is my grandmother. She doesn't know much about her family. Her only relative is her sister. It would be nice to find more information on her Fathers side of the family. It has made her very happy that I found out her grandparents name. Blas died in 1940. ANy information would be helpful! Patricia Torres

patriciatorres1988@gmail.com or reply here so it is recorded.

Sorry to heart about your father. I would offer some suggestions but “one size does not fit all” Each person has to morn in there own way.

I lost my father when he was young. That was very difficult. My mother was old and in poor heath so it was not so bad. My wife died 3 years ago and I am still having a hard time. Each case is different so all, I can all I can say is that I understand the hurt.

According to the Spanish phone book, Celaya is found in the province of Vizcaya and Navarra. Both are in the Basque nation so it is defiantly a Basque name.

As you probably know the Basque do not consider themselves as Spanish and seldom integrate with Spaniards in Spain so it is not unusual to find the name only in the Basque nation.

Best
Henry

Yes my grand uncle was Domingo Quiroz. His father was Domingo Quiroz and his mother was Maria Jesus Carmelo. He had a brother by the name of Francisco (my grand father). Francisco’s daughter Oralia was my mother.

About the Quiroz name, it is not a Spanish name. I lived in Spain for 6 years and never encountered anyone by the name of Quiroz. One of my jobs was to hire and train Spanish nationals to operate our deep space and Apollo tracking stations. Hundreds of resumes crossed my desk and again no Quiroz.

If you Google Spain White Pages the go to the province of Madrid and to the city of Madrid you will find tens of thousands of typical Spanish names like Garcia etc. Go to a non-Spanish name like Smith and you will find 16 first last names and 18 last second names. Then go to Quiroz and there are 13 first last names and 21 second last names.

There were more Smith and Quiroz names in the phone book several years but with the dire economic situation there my guess all but the legal residence have left.

Quiroz is a typical Portuguese name. When I pointed this out to some of my relative they became offended because Spaniards consider the Portuguese second class citizens. They generally work as maids in Spain.

My wife and I adopted two Spanish boys while we were living in Spain. Neither knew anyone by the name of Quiroz. One is well educated and pointed out that there were Spanish Jews by the name of Quiros but most left Spain during the inquisition or changed their name.

Celaya may be Basque. I will be in the Basque later this month and will check on the name.

Was your father Ignacio (Nacho)? If so I knew him and know your family.

Henry Richards
I had heard my father's Quiroz family came from the north - maybe Barcelona. He said name was spelled with z?? There was said to be an ancestor who came to Mexico with Cortez. My father is descended from Domingo Quiroz who had left Mexico during CA gold rush years & found a good vein. But his partner took it all when he was traveling. He became a tutor for the governor of CA while traveling through Los Angeles & returned to Mexico. They were given the name Quiroz y Mora.

My father's great-great grandparents were Ramon Sotelo and Josefa Celaya. I read somewhere that Celaya may be Basque.

Neither ever hears of any one of the name of Quiroz.

If you Google the white pages of Spain then the city of Madrid you will find about 42 Smiths and about 38 Quiroz’s. Neither are Spanish names.

Do you have and connections in the Basque country of Spain?

Your story is so interesting. Is this the same Cornelio Espinoza who is the father of Teresa Espinoza (also father of Feliciana, Ramona, Victoria, Maria de la Paz, Anastacio, Cornelio, and maybe Feliciana and Maria Anselma) who married Romulo Villarreal Jimenez?

So your ancestor Jose Antonio is the one who was captured by the Comanche? Did he speak the language well?

Please email me at: martie13@cis-broadband.com

I would like to hear more of your lineage back to Cornelio Espinoza. I am stuck on him and do not have any parents for him yet, though he may be a Villarreal by his mom.

I do not have a picture of Teresa Espinoza but I do have one of her children and her husband. Do you have any older pictures of your Espinoza line?

Your Post:
Cornelio Espinoza was my grandfather, his son, my 3rd, generation grandfather Jose Antonio, was married to Nazaria Ramirez Cuellar. His son Erculano, married Pilar Flores, their son Jose married Flavia Saenz, then came my mother Erlinda Espinoza Saenz. Teresa, would be a cousin.

Old family history is that Cornelio, in the heat of a Camanche raid, grabbed his son Antonio and placed him behind his sattle, while they were being chased across the Rio Grande,Antonio holding on for dear life, Cornelio came to a draw and hid Antonio, he was later captured by the Camanche's and taken captive, he lived among the Camanche's for seven years, he was given the name Camanchero.

I have purchased the family history of the Quiroz surname from houseofnames.com, and according to them the Quiroz name originated in Sicily from a noble Spanish family, where it spread over much of Southern Italy, so perhaps you might find more Quiroz descendants in Italy and Sicily. Perhaps the original Spanish family may have come from Asturias, but according to their historians it was first documented and spread in Sicily.
