My guess is that you have already seen the story printed in the Berea Citizen newspaper on January 29, 1920. It said:

"Beattyville - Latest word from Ross Creek, where Durr Rader and Johnnie Freeman were killed following a dance is that they were shot from ambush, and there is no clue as to the identity of their slayers." That is all that was printed. Doing a text search yielded no further results. If you really want to research and follow up on this story, try contacting the Sheriff's departments for Estill County where Ross Creek is located and for Lee County where Beattyville is located. Ask them if they have a records archive of murder cases that would include murders that were committed in 1920. In some states old county records get sent to State government archives. So, if their is no information in either of those counties for records that old, start searching for contacts for archived records in the state government of Kentucky, which would be located maybe in Frankfort, Franklin County Kentucky, the seat of it State government. Don't be surprised if you have to do a lot foot work in such research because some parts Kentucky kept very poor records if they kept records at all.

By the way, William Darr Rader and Millie Freeman were also mentioned on May 27, 1919 in The Bourbon News newspaper printed in Paris, Bourbon County, Kentucky. The story was about drilling and pumping oil in Ross Creek, KY.

Donald E. "Don" Rader

MANSFIELD: Donald E. "Don" Rader, 90, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away early Thursday evening, March 1, 2012, at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, Ohio (Erie County) after a lengthy illness.

Born on April 25, 1921 in Crestline, Ohio, he was the son of the Late George Dewy and Myrtle Violet (Muth) Rader.

Don was a 1938 graduate of Springfield Township High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during W.W. II, having received the World War Victory Medal, Good Conduct, Meritorious Unit Award, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze stars.
He saw action in Northern Africa, Sicily, Rome-Arno, Southern France, The Rhineland and Central Europe.

Don had farmed in the Mansfield, Ohio area for many years and was also a "square dance" caller in his earlier days.

He was a member of the Richland Church of the Brethren, former member Ontaio Methodist Church, and former 4-H advisor.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Dean & Charlene Bard; two sons, Duane (Kay) Rader & David Rader, all of Mansfield; 12 grandchildren, Rebecca, Ollie Jr., Michelle, Natalie, Nathan, Miranda, Jessica, John, Taryne, Dorian, Karissa, and Electra; seven great-grandchildren; sister, LaDonna (Daniel) Fuhrer of Lexington, OH; brother, Darrell (Marlene) Rader of Woodstock, IL; three sister-in-laws, Leota (Greenawalt) Rader of Mechanicsburg, OHIO, Dorothy (Eyerly) Rader & Dorothy (Barnhill) Rader both of Mansfield.

Besides his parents, he also was preceded in death by his wives, Mollie R. (Remy) Rader, Vera Rader; brothers, Burdell, Dwight, Virgil and infant brother, Carroll Gene Rader.

Don had donated his body to the Division of Anatomy at The Ohio State University.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Richland Church of the Brethren, 786 Linn Road, Mansfield, OH.

His family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio 44870

Arrangements are entrusted to the David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave, Sandusky, OH.

PORTAGE, IN: Winifred A. (Winnie) Weaver, 84, of Portage, IN left this life on Sat. Mar. 31, 2012 after a short illness.

Winnie was born in Roseville, Ohio (Muskingum County) to the late Louis and Ida Rader on July 8, 1927.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Weaver of Portage, Indiana; sons Gary (Raynell) Weaver of Caledonia, MI, and Rick (Cassie) Weaver of Little Elm, TX; grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her sister Margaret Fountain of Roseville, OH.

She is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Weaver; brother Charles Rader; and grandson Timothy Weaver.

She attended 1st Baptist Church in Hobart, IN. and Maranatha Bible Church when in Zanesville.

Grave side services will be Monday April 9, 2012 at 10 am in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery Military Rd. Zanesville, Ohio.

Clipped to it is a card that gives the name Peggy (Glover) Rader.

If you go to the Lancaster, Ohio newspapers you will find lots of articles for Rev. M.M. Rader. He was the pastor for the Maple Street church. One article tells of him going to another town for a time to work at another church. When they returned home, his wife died. This gentleman was my great grandfather's brother.

I know this is an old thread, but I am looking for the parents of my GGG grandmother, Sarah Rader, born 1826 in Ky and married Jeremiah Hollinsworth 3/19/1852 in Manchester Ky.

Jeremiah died 7/7/1864 in the Civil War and Sarah lived in Owsley Co Ky with her daughters, Mary, Christina and Elizabeth (somestimes listed as Rader, sometimes as Hollinsworth). Elizabeth married Jilson Pritchard and is my GG Grandmother.

I believe she may be a daughter of George Aaron and Mary Polly Ambrose Rader, but have no proof other than their living near each other in Owsley Co....

Audry should be able to help you. Mark Rader is from the Morris Rader side of the tree. Very funny story on how our side reconnected with him. Also, I don't know how much stuff my dad (Herb Werman) sent you but we have multi generational photos from his Bar Mitzvah album from way back. I am a Rader Badner descendent. Through Mollie and Jacob Rader (my great grandparents). I am the grandson of Ruth Rader Werman. I would like to correct the children of Mollie and Jacob posted to reflect the following:
Mollie Rader was married to Jacob Rader b. 1871 a first cousin. Their children were Milton J. (Moe) b.1893, Sah (Sol) Rader b. 1896, Ruth b. 1900, Charles b. 1907, Frances b. 1909., Jean, Stella. 7 in total 3 boys and 4 girls. I am also in touch with Mark Rader.

Joseph (Joe) J. Rader is a brother to my grandfather. My grandfather chose to spell the name as Reader. Family members chose both either one of the two spellings. Joe is one of 10 children. He was born December 4, 1874 and died March 1999. He married Mary Polly on January 6, 1897. She was born in 1870 and died June 10, 1958. Both are buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Lanark, Wi. Mary Polly is the daughter of Joseph and Antona (Moldski) Polly. Joe's father is Peter Rader/Reader and his mother is Margaret Steinfort Reader. Hope this helps.

I have an original postcard photograph of “Aunt Theodosia Rader, wife of Jim Rader” and under that “Jim was oldest in W. C. Rader’s family and Corrie was second oldest”. I’d like to get back the photo back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1915, and she looks to be about age 25.

I found the family of Wilbert C. Rader in the 1900 census for Brooke Co., WV, showing Wilbert C. Rader (36), wife Nettie (32), with James N. Rader, age 8, and siblings. There is no Corrie or Carrie listed, however. Ancestry Private Tree shows a Theodosia B. Rader, born 1892 in Missouri, but I am not sure that this is the same lady.
