Hi Richard,

I have Ragusa's in my family but I don't know much about them. My Great Grandmother was Concetta Ragusa. She was born around 1894 and came to America in 1920. She married John (Giovanni) Garito in 1923 and gave birth to my grandmother, Concetta Garito, on November 9, 1923. My great-grandmother's last residence in Italy was Leongorte, Catania. I believe my great-grandmother's brother's name was Francesco Ragusa. I'm not sure if this is helpful for you. Let me know if there are any links.

I have just this morning been corresponding with ancestors of a Salvatore Ragusa. Salvatore married my grand Aunt Rosa Pizzolato. I do not know where Salvatore was from but Rosa was from Chiusa Sclafani, Sicily and they were married on 20 Jan 1865. I do not know if that is the same Salvatore Ragusa you were writing about.

I'm hoping you are still here on ancestry. My Great Great Grandfather and Great Great Grandmother came from Italy and settled on Broadway. My G G Grandfather was Frank Ragusa from Chiusa Sclafani and he married Santa Maria Russo from Palermo. That is as far back on our Ragusa side that I can get. I will ask my Aunts and Uncles that remember living on Broadway about your family. But I do remember a story of my Great coming to the US with friends.

I'm looking for any information on Joseph A Ragusa (b 2 Feb 1871 d 1952) he was married to Rosalie Orlando Mule' in 1909 and they had 4 children together (Antoinette, Rosa, Frank and Josephine). He also had two children- Tony and Annie- by a wife of unknown name. All of his children were born in the New Orleans/Jefferson Parish area of Louisiana. I think this board is the locality of Ragusa not the name Ragusa. I dont have any Ragusa surnames in my lines (but lots of ancetry from the town of Ragusa).

I am a Ragusa from Louisiana, but I dont' think that we're related. I do, however, have some information that might be helpful since it was helpful to me. There is a set of Diocesan Sacramental Indexes. "A Guide To Church Records In Louisiana" by Rev. Donald J. Hebert. Also, "Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records." - There are many volumes.

Many of the Italians worked on Sugar cane plantations in the area. Ours were in St. James Parish and New Orleans.

Hi. I saw your message which seems to have been posted some time ago. I am also a Ragusa daughter. My grandfather had two brothers which came from Bisaquino, Italy. One of which stayed in NY. His name was changed to Rousse or something. Still not clear either. The other was sent to New Orleans on a plantation. My grandfather, Pietro, came to California. My name is Nicholas Pizzolatto, Jr.. I live in Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA. My grandfather Salvatore Pizzolato was born in Chiusa Sclafani. My grandmother, Josephine Grado was born in Caltabellotta. My father, Nicholas Pizzolatto, now deceased did visit Chiusa some years before his death in 1986. I have just gotten back on Ancestry. We have all those names, Giordano, Montalbano in our family.

I have a Ragusa on my tree. His name is Vincenzo. DOB is 09/04/1894. Married Rosaria Reda. Both died in Mt. Vernon, PA. USA.
When he arrived here, his name was changed to Jim Ross. I have no idea why. They had 2 children.

ther was also a vincenzo pizzolato in strator., a Franceso pizzolato was going to him in 1905.

My grandfather Domenico Salario and his brother Vincenzo went to Streator Ill, in 1913.
He went to his nephew Vincenzo Ragusa on West Broadway 203-205.
When WWI broke out my grandfather went back to Sicily ( Chiusa Sclafani), and his brother Vincenzo stayed in America.
My grandfather fought in the war in Europe, and his brother fought and died in the American army (?)
My grandfather got a pension from him when he died. but how is that posible?.( my father told me)
But I cant find any information of him, and I don't even know if he was naturalized.
We live in The Netherlands Europe, and I`m searching for relatives and information.
The names Salario, Ragusa, Cammarata, Bosco, Montalbano, Noto, Giordano, Calia, Gebbia, Sciacchitano are al names that are in my family tree.
And the places Chiusa Sclafani, Bisaquino are the places.
Can anyone help me?

Hi -- My grandmother Filomena (b1883 Carolei,Consenza)was a REDA (she also married Giovanni Antonio REDA) Her father was Antonio Maria REDA - his mother was Maria Carmela RAGUSA. I posted a more detailed account on a REDA board on 11/28(or 29)'07.

I can't help you much but wanted to share the fact that our Ragusa family had named changed to Ross also. TX/LA area of USA. Male names are Michael and Anthony. My husband's great aunt Mary says that the teachers here in America changed the spelling of the name. Our fist generation to America was murrderd in rout to America. I think his name was Anthony. Stabed to death. Aunt Mary talked about how neighborhood bosses would arrange dates and weddings for the youngs girls and how they (girls) hated it.

NORMAL -- Camellia J. Powell, 54, of 1606 Bensington Court, Normal, died at 7:39 a.m. Friday (Nov. 26, 2004) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvert and Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, the Rev. Allen Steinbeck officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the memorial home.

Memorials may be made to Humane Society of Central Illinois.

She was born Dec. 15, 1949, in Chicago, the daughter of Andrew and Josephine Bondicci Ragusa. She married Ronald P. Powell on April 15, 1968, in Bloomington.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald P. Powell; two sons; Donnie (Joanna) Powell, Heyworth, and Ronnie (Debbie) Powell, Normal; one daughter; Tara (Jeff) Walker, Bloomington; two brothers; Tom Ragusa, Bloomington, and Anthony Ragusa, Florida; and seven grandchildren.
Her parents preceded her in death.

Camellia worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 15 years before she retired last year.

RAGUSA JOSEPH LAWRENCE May 24, 1928 to April 12, 2004 Joe died peacefully at his Santee home surrounded by the love of his family. He was one of three children born to John and Rose Ragusa who operated a Candy Store in Cleveland, Ohio where he worked as a youngster. He was a graduate of Cleveland ' s Dyke College with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Joe was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1950 after serving in Germany and Japan. His accounting and system analysis career included employment at Convair, Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical and Western Data Systems. His retirement in 1992 was short lived as he quickly became involved with VFW 5985 in Pacific Beach where he served as Quartermaster and, most recently, as Commander. While Joe loved sports, (especially golf) movies, music, traveling and pasta, his most cherished activities were those shared with his family and loved ones. Joe was a thoroughly kind and decent man who will be greatly missed by his many friends and family including his sons, Richard and Michael; his daughter, Lynn Tabb; grandchildren, Jessica, Tricia and Janice; great-grandchildren, Adam, Terrance, Janessa and Robin. We are definitely cugini! Your 2nd great-grandmother Rosa Pizzolato was my grandfather's (Luigi Pizzolato's) aunt. She and her husband, Salvatore Ragusa, arrived at Ellis Island on the S.S. Aller on October 12, 1898. On the same ship were my grandfather with his sister Rosaria and their parents Vincenzo Pizzolato (Rosa's brother) and Antonina Giordano; and another of Rosa's brother's Giuseppe Pizzolato with his wife Gioacchina d'Asaro and their son, also named Luigi Pizzolato. From New York they traveled by steamship to Newport News, Virginia, where they took a train to New Orleans. There they were met by another of Rosa's brothers Salvatore Pizzolato. Aunt Rosa left behind in Italy her mother (Rosaria Montalbano) and 2 sisters with their families, Antonina and Margherita.
Please let me know how we are related. I remember Aunt Rosa and her children and grandchildren from Crowley, Louisiana, and have lots of information on the Pizzolato side. In fact, I was in Chiusa Sclafani in September and can e-mail you some pictures. I had gone to attend the wedding of Aunt Rosa's sister Antonina's 2nd great grandson (Federico Barbieri) in Palermo.

Looking for information on Maria Ragusa. She was married to Mariano Barbera and lived in Colorado. I don't know if she herself ever lived in Louisiana, but she had 2 brothers: Sam and Ben, who lived in Baton Rouge. She also had a sister Carrie, and brother John, and 2 other brothers whose names I don't know. I have some further information on Maria and Carrie (although not much), but I'd be happy to compare notes with anyone interested. If any of this sounds familiar at all, please let me know. Hi My great great grandmothers name was Caterina Ragusa. She married a man with last name Polizzi. She gave birth to my great grandmother in Palermo and then moved to Tunisia for awhile before going back to sicily. Any information you have would be great. thank you

my 2nd great-grandfather was a Salvatore Ragusa who married Rosa Pizzolato, both from Chiusa Scalfani. His father was Giuseppe also of Chiusa Scalfani.
Not sure if there's a connection there.
I live in Florida.
I have many Sicilian cousins in Texas and Louisiana and Maryland. Our families all came over together.
I have a good deal of my grandmother's research and would be glad to share anything that might be helpful.
