Hi--I've just gotten back on Ancestry. I believe you have been in touch with Mrs. Boyd who has some marvelous things to share. Did you find Alexander's burial site? I spepnt a few hours searching graveyards and have found some of the Ramseys, sadly not Alexander. Where is the old homesite? My ancestor is William L. Also wondering if you found the written Ramsey history? I know that Mrs. Boyd was looking for it, too--I know Lewis Ramsey has it but I can't track him down. I have notes on where the brothers held land in Tuscaloosa County.

Albert Benjamin Ramsey, Pennsylvania

Albert Benjamin Ramsey
b. abt. 1880, Norristown, Montgomery Co, PA
d. sometime between 1913 and 1930.
Or, possibly divorced.
He was married to Florence___?
Florence was born in PA. Her father came from Ireland, her mother from Scotland.
Albert's father came from Ireland, his mother from PA.
The only record I could find so far with any mention of Albert is a baptismal record for their son, my grandfather, Charles Albert dated 9 Feb 1913 at St John's Episcopal Church, Conshohocken, PA.
Florence had remarried to John Mairs and they were living in Conshohocken, PA from 1920 to 1940. John died sometime after the 1930 census. Florence was a widow in 1940.

There is one record with Albert's name and a Florence Hoy.
A marriage certificate dated 1902 in Manhattan, NY. The information fits but I'm not certain this is my Albert and Florence. The connection to NY doesn't fit. I have everything on Florence except her maiden name. I remember Florence. She died when I was ten years old.

I am looking for information on Emma's daughters. Here is some background information on Emma. She was born June 16, 1888 in Webster Co., WV to Cyrus Milan and Jane Rena (Bryd) Ramsey. Emma married David Isaac Helmick on July 6th, 1906 in Webster Co., WV. David and Emma had two daughters named Opal Virginia and Beulah Irene Helmick. Opal was born on June 27th, 1908 and Beulah on Feb 24th, 1912. I know when Emma died she had the surname of Matarese, she died in Parkersburg, Wood Co., Wv on June 4th, 1956. Any information you may have on her daughters would be a tremendous help.
Thanks in Advance!

Robert L. Ramsey married Mary Elizabeth Mansfield on 07 Aug 1935 in Williamson County, Tennessee

I'm trying to track down my grandfather's sister, Mary Elizabeth Mansfield (we used to call her "Aunt Beth"), and I'm having little luck.

However, I found a marriage record between her and a Robert L. Ramsey for 07 Aug 19, 1935 in Williamson County, Tennessee.

I'm not positive this is her, but it's the only lead I've got beyond the 1910 and 1920 census where she is with other known family members. She was born around 1907 or so.

There is a vague family memory that her husband's name was Bob, which would certainly fit with Robert.

If anyone has this particular Ramsey in their tree, please let me know where I might be able to find out more information. Thanks.

I believe your James Jr Ramsey is my James Fletcher Ramsey who came to Center Twp, Butler Pa. from Armstrong Co and worked on the Maxwell farm. He married Maxwells daughter Elizebeth and was given a parcel of land. Their son William Maxwell Ramsey continued on the farm. One of their sons, Elzie is my grandfather.
Bob Ramsey
Never mind about Steve then. I know who your line is and have about six generations of your specific line. Gus had a large law practice and an extremely large merchantile company in Augusta.

I researched this line of Ramseys for several years and even went and walked one of the old Plantation grounds to find the old Ramsey cemetery on the property to photograph it. At one time the area was known as Ramsey, Georgia till about 1870 and they had three Plantations and four farms I think it was.

There's even some record references in one of the two books on the Ramsays/Ramseys I publish and sell. Contact me by email on my website.

Allen
www.iHONORthem.com

Allen here is what I know about John A Ramsey/Wallace

He was born May 11 1847 in Columbia Georgia.

His father was Dr Henry Ramsey who was born in Ruckersville Georgia in 1821 and died in prison in 1856 by poisoning himself.

His mother was Isabella Jane Cartledge also born in Columbia Georgia in 1826. I also know Isabella died in on July 18 1908 and never remarried

John was 9 years old when his father died and his "Uncle Gus" William Augustine Ramsay raised him.

Somewhere along the way John got into trouble, either by killing or severely hurting someone. Family stories indicate it was in retaliation for someone hurting a loved one and that he was a fugitive and moved west and changed his name to Wallace.

There are a few different variations of that story and I am trying to see if I can get more info.

I will reach out to Steven Coker because John Wallace married Mary Coker.

Thanks for the lead and if you have any other info that might help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Mine and mine! LOL One line of Ramseys from my Grandfather's side that migrated to around Sherman from Clarkesville, GA and a line of Ramseys from my grandmother's side that migrated to the same area from Franklin county, GA that's from the Thomas Ramsey line from Pittsylvania county, VA or PA. Although both lines had similar names running through their lines, like Remus Barnett Ramsey and the name Gustavius; by DNA results they are from different HAPLO groups.
You might want to contact a Steven Coker, that's on the boards and online. His line of Ramseys were around SC and there are quiet a few Mary Cokers in his line. He might know of something along the lines.

Allen
iHONORthem.com

I am searching information on my wife's GGGrandfather who was born as John A Ramsey. He died as John A Wallace in Kiomatia Texas on 22 JAN 1930. There are several stories around his name change. The all have the same theme, he killed someone in Georgia around, most say in either vengeance of self defense then moved to Arkansas and Married Polly Ann Coker, some say full blooded Cherokee in 1867 then settled in Red River County Texas around 1890s.

I do know his dad was Dr Henry Ramsey, who committed suicide in prison in 1856 and family stories say John was raised by his "Uncle Gus" William Augustine Ramsay.

I would like to find out more information behind his name change and the story of him killing someone.

Hi Ray,

About 12 years ago you gave me the link to our ancestry that went back to James Ramsey from Ireland around 1717. It seems as though I have managed to lose the copies I had printed, as well as the link to the documentation. If you could contact me with the link, I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Jarrod Ramsey

I believe that we are cousins, 2nd or 3rd or maybe further down the line. Your second great grandfather was Thomas Wells Ramsey, his brother was Gordon Haney Ramsey, they had other siblings as you know but Gordon Haney Ramsey is my 2nd great grandfather. They are both the sons of Thomas Jefferson Ramsey and Nancy Louise Placey, I am also trying to find information on Thomas and Nancy and their parents, Gordon Haney Ramsey's son Frank Chester Ramsey is my great grandfather and his son Donald Ramsey is my grandfather and so on. My research seems to coordinate with yours and I would love to share information with you.
Please email me at VintageElegance2010@hotmail.com :)
