Florence Kilby was my dads, Clarence "Frank" Kilbys sister. I saw Florence in the early 1980's at a Kilby reunion in Iowa that I took my father to. He was glad to see his sister because he knew it would be the last time. He died shortly after that. He was from Washington State. I don't have much info. but would like to share.

Rance family lived in Cresco,Iowa

My grandparents are as follows in the Rance family. They lived in Cresco,Iowa and had 13 children. my father being the youngest. My grandmother's name was Florence Kilby and my grandfather died in 1966 and was born in 1891. My grandmother was born in 1906 and died in 1991. My father was born in 1948 and his 12 brothers and sisters all live in or near Iowa now. There was another family of rance's in Cresco, so my family took the 'e' off of the name for some years so that mail would not get mixed up which was a problem, so maybe I need to try that. My name is Dawn Rance, and I would like to be e-mailed with replies to d-rance@cornell-iowa.edu Thank You!

I have a Rance-Newman connection. My great-great grandfather, John Genders Newman b. 1844 in Wilstone, Tring married Lucy Rance in 1867. There are lots of Rance's in the Buckinghamshire, England and I am currently researching them and the Newman's. Their son, George Newman then came to Milton, ON as a home boy. Could this possibly be the same family? I have lots of information. You can e-mail me: starkjennifer@hotmail.com

Re: william rance

this is the bare bones of information that I have dates and names, excluding cause of death in most cases because this e-mail would go on for ever!
Oldestreference is William Rance, I think living in middlesex, but haven't gone to check parish records - father of;
Henry Rance born 1821, died 9.1.1864 whilst selling second hand clothing on a stall in Nottingham market.
Married Elizabeth Sarah Taylor(born 1825) in Bristol 11-3-1850. They had the following children
Selina Rance born 25-7-1848 in Bristol who married James Smith in Nottingham 25-12-187
henry Rance born 6-6-1850, died 5-3-1892
Arthur Rance born 20-7-1852
Bessie Rance born 21-12-1854
CHARLES RANCE born 9-5-1861 - see later
William Rance born 1863.
Elizabeth Rance re-married a Francis Padgitt 5-11-1864.
Charles Rance married a widdow Elizabeth Pounder nee Brown.
Elizabwth Pounder was born in 1860, her first husband William Pounder died 29-9-1882. I found one daughter from this marriage - margeret Pounder born 1881.
Charles and Elizabeth were married 5-10-1884. I found the following children
Florence Rance born 1885
Annie Evelyn Rance born 16 -4-1889
Charles Rance born 1889, died 1892
William Rance, known as Billy born 1897 and died 02-1-1917 in the first world war as a field gunner.
Charles Rance died 8- 11- 1897.
Elizabeth Rance his widdow married yet again to Alfred Henshaw, a miner 21-7-1900.
My Grandmother was Annie Evelyn Rance who married George Blundell 23-6-1913. She died 19-2-1988 They had one child Eileen who was my mother. She was born 19 -2-1914 and married Gwynne Nickless 26-3-1937. I was born in 1939, and have one much younger sister now Judy Russell, who I believe has been incontact with you.
I don't belong to the web site you mentioned.
Hope this has been helpful;. If you can get back any further I would be delighted. My Grandmothr always said that there was a French connection in the Rance Family in that one of hr ancestors had been a jeweller who had escped from France, but I haven't been able to find that yet. As far as I know William Rance Father of Charles born 1821 was a farmer.Charles always listed himself as a musician and apparently played the dulcimer in the pubs rould Nottingham city. He seemed quite a character and could have made up the French connection, although there are records of Rances in France, so who knows? I haven't done any research for a couple of years.

Hi Sandy
I realise this is a very old post, but have only recently found my connection with the Rance family. Mainly from Wokingham in Berkshire. Some of my names are:

Jonathan b1826 married Letitia Gibbs b1831 in 1852
Thay had 9 children including Elizabeth b1858

The Family moved to London Hammersmith where Elizabeth married William Davies in 1878. They were my Great Great Grandparents.

I think I have traced the family back to about 1659 in Wokingham.

Please contact me when you get this e-mail even just to say that you have NO connection or are no longer reseaching.

Thank You
Regards Linda

I am pretty sure that the William Rance that you are talking about was my Grandmother's brother. I have details of the Rance family going back to early 1800's.
There is rumoured to be a french connection, but I haven't found it yet.
I certainly have details of William's parents and Rance Grandparents.

Ten names are labeled on the reverse (in order) - "Eva Rance, Mildred Gray, Delores Gray, Helen Brandt, Carni Harms, Jim Bowden, Miss Bone, Elma Alberts, Herb Buss, Karl Krause". I do not know where the photo was taken.

Attached is a copy of the photo. If this is one of your ancestors, please contact me.

Hi Terri,My name is Everett of the Rance family from Thorntown. My fathers' name was Leslie and his fathers' name was William. My father had three brothers and two sisters. The brothers names were Robert,Ivan, and Herschel. The sisters were named Hazel and Marie. There were others from a previous marriage of Williams' but I don't know their names except my namesake Everett. William had an extended family but I only know of two brothers Amos and Isaac. My mom is 84 and probably could give you some information that I don't have. Her maiden name was Meek and she was from Thorntown also. Are you related and if so how? I would be interested in any information that you have that may fill in the blanks

Hi Brian, Don't know of a shirley or shirly but a branch of the family is from a bit farther north, maybe monticello or winimac and their spelling is Rans or Ranz. I'm not sure. I have been told they are from the same source. Someone in the Rance branch was supposed to have changed the spelling many years ago. Don't know if it is true or not as I haven't found proof one way or another.

I believe we are related. In the summer of 1957 when I was 12, my father (Albert Rance) took me to Freeport to visit her. I have a few pictures of that visit. Your information as to your grandmother's siblings is the same as mine. She also had an older sister named Minnie (Berth). Marie is shown on the 910 census as the third child of George and Anna Rance. I have much more information to share as well as some questions about her brother John H and Susie (Susana). Please reply ASAP
