Hi, I have found your ex-girlfriend's mother in my family tree.
Please let her know this if you can and share my email contacts with her:
carlrapa@yahoo.com

Salomea Rappa is my father's first cousin and that would make your ex-gf and me, 1st cousins, once removed. I have quite a bit of information on her side of the family. I am happy to share this.
My former girlfriend's mom was a Rappa. Her name was Salomea Cecilia Rappa. I think that she was born in Poland (but I could be mistaken.) She worked as a podiatrist in Butler, Pennsylvania. She died in the 1990s....I think. I really don't know anything about her family or parents at all. I think that she was born in 1913.

I am doing some research on my husband's ancestry, but having a hard time locating anyone, probably due to name changes, lack of info on his part and such.

Would like to hear from you or have access to your tree to see if I can possibly find any connections. My husband's name is Guido Cosimo Comito. We also know that his other family names are Cynor (sp?) & Catalano (sp?) and come from Italy, Messina, Sicily, Arizona, California, Washington State and the New York area.

Would appreciate any info you may possibly have that can help us.

Family Names:

Guido Cosimo Comito
Kyle Cosimo Comito
Conchetta J Comito (Living)
Guido Cosimo Comito, Jr.
Theresa Comito
Cosimo William Comito... AKA "Gus"
Genevieve M Cynor
Timothy Cynor
Concetta Comito (deseased at very young age)
Trudy Cynor
Mary Stanky (sp ?)
Antonio "Tony" Comito
Carmela Comito, possibly known as Molly
Domenico (Dominic) Comito
Maria Comito
Dolores M Cynor
Teresa Catalano

Thank you!

I have tried for years to locate any information about my grandparents. It seems that when immigrants came to America, they changed their names. This is what I know and it may not be correct. I was told they were born in Marsala Sicily. The names I have are Benimino (or Anthony, Benjamino) Rape (or Rapa, Rappa)he married my grandmother Josephino (Josephine, Jose) Digilomo (Digiloma) and I'm not sure of that spelling either. Grandpa was born about 1882 and Grandma 1888. They had a daughter approx age 3 yrs when then left for America. The name Larosa comes up formy grandfather because he may have been illegitimate. I have tried for many years to find out anything about them. The records show birthplace as Italy with no specific city.
If you have email addresses of court houses with public records, I would realyy appreciate that info. Thank you

Joe Rappa was my uncle and I have the same wonderful memories of him. He owned a small trucking company that worked out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard and always worked very hard. His brother Frank worked with him and his brother Jim was my father. He did become a psychiatrist and ran Brooklyn State Hospital for many years( now Kingsbrough Psychiatric Hospital). There were also five sisters. We had many good times! I went to Carini first time in 2010 but was not able to meet any Rappas. As child I do remember my dad's cousin, Charlie (?) Bartolotta. Was very nice. Please e-mail me at lindi430@aol.com. Thank you!

Hi,

My last name is also Rappa and my grandfather Giovanni Rappa was born in San Guiseppe Iato, Sicily. He came to the US around 1903 with his mother Francesca Licari Rappa and a younger brother. I actually have the ship manifest. His father Benedetto Rappa came to the US at an earlier time. They ended up residing in Central NY, Frankfort, Ilion and Utica. I would assume I am a relative.

Hi Antoinette, I believe we are related to each other. I have pictures here of Cesaer & his wife, Zeke and Chris when they lived in Upstate NY. On my fathers mom's side, my great grandmother's maiden name is Rappa. Also, on my father's dads side, my great great grandfather is a Rappa. A couple of them actually married 1st cousins but I read this was very common back in the day.

Anyway, I don't have a whole lot of info on who Cesear's parents are and if you do have that info can you forward it to me? I would love to share these pictures with you.....is there a way? Are you on Facebook? I am, please let me know.

Also, I noticed this is the UK site for Ancestry. Are you also registered on the USA site?
Hard to say whether I am a relative. As you said, Borgetto is full of Rappa's. In such a case the commonality of first names is very important. My grandfather's first name was Antonino, his first son was Frank so I would say there is a very good chance that sometimes in the past our families' family tree converged.

Antonino Rappa was my husband Salvatore's father. Papa was born in Borgetto, Sicily. His father was Frank Rappa. Papa had siblings, Benito, Sam, Franca and (2nd marriage)step siblings.... Salvatore and sister Magdalina. Papa came to America with Mama, Marie in 1950. They didn't want their children to have the hard life that they had so they came to America. We went to Sicily in 2005 and the town of Borgetto was filled with Rappa and Migliore names. Are you a relative.?
Hi Doreen. I don't even remember posting this message and found it when I was googling our names...so sad what happens with age!
I don't know a Carmen Rappa, but Fred Rappa is my cousin. He is my father's brother Fred's son. He is the nicest guy, but I see him only at wakes and weddings. :(
Another Revere fire captain, Buzzy Garofalo, was my mother's cousin.

Hi...

Don't know if this thread is still active.
But I was looking for a Rappa on Google and found your post...

In 1990 I met a girl from Palermo in Florida (I was, like her, on a language school). I later visited her in Palermo (in her familys huge house in the center of Palermo).

Her name was (is?) Barbara Rappa.
The whole family lived in the house - which was located on one of the main roads in Palermo (no. 125 - I remember..).
She had a brother I remember - he was 16 at the time, and she must have been around 19.

Don't know if this is of any help??

Best Regards
Martin Sonne

Hi, I think that we are related. My Great-Grandmother was Guilia (Julia) Polizzi b. 1881 in Borgetto, Italy, she came to the United States 16 Oct 1905 To her brother Guiseppe Polizzi, and married my Great-Grandfather Vincenzo (James)Caruso b.1878 in Italy. Her parents were, Salvatore Polizzi and Maria Rappa. I don't know who Vincenzo's parents are.
I am trying to get all of the information I can on my family tree. Julia and James lived in new york then moved to philadelphia in 1907/1908. They had Sophie, Mary, Peter, Sam (my grandfather), Grace, Anna, Josephine, James(vincenzo), and Vinchonca Caruso between 1906 and 1918.
My Grandfather Sam Caruso b. 1912 married my Grandmother Dorothy Wilson b. 1914. They had Betty Jane (my mom) b. 1941, Juliana Michaline b. 1943, Vincent b.1944, and Patricia b.1945 Caruso.
My mom Betty Jane Caruso, married my Dad Paul Hackenburg b.1937 and they had 8 children 6 survived.
I don't want this post to be too long, if anyone can contact me with information I would be sooo grateful.
Thank you,
Lisa Hackenburg

Frank Rappa, Italy>NYC, arrived 1904?

I have new information. The Frank Rappa shown in my previous post may not be him. 1920 NY Census for Manhattan in NYC gives immigration date of 1904... and this date may not be correct either! I have looked on the Ships List at Ellis Island and there are no Frank (or Francesco) Rappa's born abt 1861-62 who sailed from Italy to the Port of NY in 1904. Frank evidently married wife Rose in Italy because two of their children Tessie, b.1900 and James, b.1905 were also born there. Rose's immigration date is shown as 1905. I cannot find her either. If anyone knows of this family, PLEASE contact me. Frank and Rose's grand daughter would like to know who their parents were and when and where in Italy they were born. Thanks...

I am looking for information on Frank RAPPA aka Francesco RAPA who came to this country (NYC), from Naples, Italy, on the ship Assyria in 1883. He and wife, Rose, also b. Italy, married in NYC abt 1891-92 and had 9? children incl. Dora b. 1893; Angelica b. 1895; Carmallia b. 1897. Frank's granddaughter is anxious to know who his parents were and where they were born (assume somewhere in vicinity of Naples). Does anyone here know of this family or have suggestions on how to find Frank's parents? Thanks... Jackie

Hi Tony
I'll give you the info i know.. My father had an uncle Salvatore
that came to the us via canada, Probably early 1900's, he settled in NY city, from what i understand my father also came via canada, in the 1920's, his name is Filippo,His first wife was Franchesca Ferrara, She died in child birth around 1929 or so, he went back to Palermo and married my mother Guesippia Locassio in 1931, and then called her over to the us. My dad had Two children with his first wife, Casimino (joe) and Rosaria, (sadie), They were named for my fathers parents, Both are now deceased. they resided in brooklyn. I believe my dad had cousins in the bronx Queens and brooklyn. His First wife also had cousins in brooklyn.
My Mom and Dad had four children, Maria, Salvatore Giovanni, and me Rita, when mom and dad seperatated in 1951, we came to milwaukee, where my mom's relatives lived. that would be my mom's uncle not sure of his first name but was a locassio, they came over in 1907. I got this history in bits and pieces, My sister maria had alot of info, but unforturnatly is now deceased.
I hope this helps, I really appreciate this, I know that both my mom and dad's family are still in the old country, brothers and sisters etc. but are probably all deceased. My mothers family moved to napels during ww2 and as far as i know are still there. My dad's family are still in palermo.
Thanks again
Rita

I think we could be related. I dont recall my grandfather ever having gone to Canada, though it is possible. He married for the first time in his 40s to Theresa Messina. He was drafted into WW2 at age 35 and was in Africa, he was also a seamstress, a wrestler and an opera singer. You mentioned Casamina, I recall my father having mentioned this name. Also possibly another Uncle/ brother??? Cosmo, owned a bakery in NYC, and some cousins, one of whom owned a casino on Lake George. I will have to ask my father directly about Casamina. I will let you know.
