I am curious to know whether the Oliver Rasmussen cited in your old posting may be the same Oliver who appears in an archived newspaper article at http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=9UUaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=M...

The Crandon article Oliver was a close friend and colleague of my father, Charlie Fisher, in the IWA union. I am searching for an obituary for Oliver. Thanks.
Yes!!! That's the right Rasmussen! Since that posting I figured out that the right name was Garnet rather than Lenore. A relative had remembered the wrong name. I actually talked to your great uncle Laird Rasmussen back in Sept 2010. I would LOVE to see photos! Figuring out Bruce's wives (he had 3) was the challenge of the century. Since he was in Washington and the rest of the family was in Santa Ana, no one seemed to know much. I didn't know about Parkland but I knew he was a barber. Do you know the dates for Garnet's marriages? Do you remember Bruce or were you too young? My mom (Bruce's niece) is still alive and was always fond of Bruce and would love to hear about your memories. Thank you for your help! My email is terry.mcclenny@gmail.com

Hello,
My name is Joel Rasmussen from Tacoma. My Grandmother, Garnet Messerole (maiden name) was married to my Grandfather, Horace Rasmussen. After they divorced sometime in the 1940's or 50's, Garnet married Bruce Struthers and they lived in Tacoma for a while throughout the 60's and 70's. Bruce was a Barber who had a shop out of his home in Parkland, WA but they traveled often to see his family in Santa Ana, CA. That's got to be the same Bruce Stuthers. I have pictures of them that I'd be happy to share. I don't know about lenore or Alta.

Hello to both of you....Kristine and Peter Rasmussen were my great grandparents....Peter Alfred was my grandfather.
I am so sorry, but my mother who could have answered all your questions died just a short while ago. Never mind I know a little bit.
They called her Kristine not Maren even though it was her first name. They came from the island of Fyn which I have visited. But I didnt know the name of the place they came from. Yes, they did travel together. I know that she did not speak any English as I have a book in which she has marked notes in Danish - it is one of those compendiums on how to do everything.
I know about Ruby and Olive - my mother mentioned them and knew them when she was young. They were her cousins but of course everyone lived so far away from each other in those days.
The eldest brother went to the Yukon in Alaska, goldmining and never came home again.
My email address is
greenslade@hotmail.com
if anyone wants to contact me.
Sandra

Elmer died July 23, 2009. My great uncle, John Gray, was married to Martha and Elmer's half sister, Edna (Fisher) Gray.

I asked my aunt, Gladys, if she knew the first name of the Andrews that Martha Rasmussen married, but she said she didn't. I believe she said she didn't know Martha's husband.

Would you be so kind as to tell me the first name of Martha's husband? Is Martha still living?

Hello, My name is Linda, I'm in Florida. I am searching for any and all information on Rasmus Rasmussen. I know there are several Rasmus's out there. A Rasmus Rasmussen was my Gr. grandfather's wife's father. Her name was (Hanna)Johanna Marie Rasmussen. Her mother divorced and remarried a Frost. Thus, Hanna chose to use Hanna Frost as her maiden name. Time went by and Hanna married her first cousin, Carl Rasmussen. Hope to learn what port of entry did Carl Rasmussen use to enter the US. from Denmark. What ship did he immigrate on?

Looking for family/descendants of Gordon Martin Rasmussen born 1921 in Fresno - died 1967 in Fresno County. His mother was Martha M Hildebrandt Rasmussen who was born 1887 Germany.

Martha had a brother, Hermann Hildebrandt, who was killed in accident in 1923 in Cochise County, Arizona.

I'm doing a history on the area of where Hermann lived and am including short history of Hermann. He never married and his only known relative was his sister, Martha M. Hildebrandt who married Martin J. Rasmussen. I'm looking for any additional information on this family

Would appreciate any help in contacting descendants.
Dawn,
I'm hoping that you will eventually see this as you apparently have a new email address. While organizing my family letters and photos, I came across a photo of little "Dewey" Rasmussen taken on Easter, 1935. Thought you'd like to see it. He was so adorable!
-- Nancy

My greatgrandmother was Ane Hansen, daughter of Karenh Frederrika Thustrup from Maribo. Other place names could be Askø Island, etc.

hello Jo

so many thanks

have found a (New Zealand) Naturalisation record for a Peter Rasmussen which records he was born in Möon - couldn't find Möon but maybe it should have been Mön ?? who knows
the info you included on Peter is excellent and really given me a lot to digest

no other info on Maren but looks more likely she was born outside of Borre - have now got several birth certificates for her children but all show only Denmark (nothing else) as Maren's birth place

have had a closer look at the place of birth on Maren's death record and tried a number of variations but no luck - it still looks something like FYJE?

would you be interested in checking this for me - it actually looks like it should be easy enough to work out but frustrated so far

I could email (or Fax) the certificate if you are OK with this

if acceptable let me know and I can send my email address if this is the best way

thanks Jo and best regards
Bryce

The Peter Rasmussen that I mentioned before was born in Aalebak, Borre parish, Praesto - so that's a likely match. Here's what I found on him:
Peder Rasmussen b 20 Feb 1851 in Aalebak, Borre parish, Praesto
parents Rasmus Larsen and Lisbeth Hansdatter ('Elizabeth' on some records, but 'Lisbeth' on her baptism record)
siblings:
Karen Kirstine b 29 Feb 1840
Kirstine b 5 Apr 1844
Lars b 19 Jan 1847
Ane Kirstine b 5 June 1849
Hans b 22 Sept 1852

(also two children who died young - Peder Rasmussen born 16 Oct 1842 and died 11 Apr 1845 and a Kirstine born 16 Oct 1841 and died 26 Oct 1841)

Rasmus Larsen and Lisbeth Hansdatter were married in Borre kirke 20 Dec 1839.

Rasmus was the son of Lars Hemingsen (or Hemmingsen) and Bodil Rasmusdatter, born 7 June 1813 in Aalebak
Lisbeth was the daughter of Hans Hendriksen and Magrethe Hemingsdatter, born 31 Jan 1813

As to Maren - could that possibly be 'Faxe' on the death cert? Unfortunately hers was a popular name and there are several Maren Kirstine Chirstensens in the area - but none that I found were born in 52/53 in Borre. (a couple in '51 and '54 though, and a couple possibilities in Faxe parish) I think that you'd really need a birthdate to pin that one down.

Back to Peder - I've temporarily saved copies of the parish records that I found. (Handwritten in Danish and a bit hard to read) If you'd like copies let me know and I'll forward them to you.

Jo Murphy

thank you so much for your efforts
I think your info from the Danish emigration records are probably correct as I found their names together on the passenger list of the `Humboldt` in 1875 - they were married in Wanganui, New Zealand (8 Feb 1875)about a week after they arrived

from his death cert; born in (unsure if) Alabek/Abalek/Aablek ?? - father = Rasmus Larsen and mother recorded as Elizabeth Larsen

from her death cert; born in Fyje? (best guess) - father and mother given as Christensen only

marriage cert - nothing useful

children to Peter and Maren:
unknown female born ca 1875
twins? Richard (Rikardt)migrated to Alaska and (possibly) Maurice born 1876
unknown male born ca 1878/9
Linne Mary born 26 jan 1885
Peter Alfred born 25 mar 1888
Violet Sophia born 15 Apr 1890
Lars Percival Marmaduke born 23 Dec 1897

not sure if this could assist but would certainly appreciate any further identification of the parents of Peter rasmussen and Maren Kirstine Christensen

best regards

Bryce

I'm trying to track my grandparents and prior family. Neils was born on 23 October 1913 and Elva was born on 8 May 1915. The were both born in Odense, Fyn, Denmark and married there at the Odense Town Hall on 18 April 1936 (non - religous ceromony). Elva's fathers first name was Thorvald and mothers surname (I think was Clausen) - not sure of the spelling. They moved to New Zealand in 1957 taking their 3 children Finn Gronlund (1936), Jorn Gronlund (1945) and Anne Gronlund Rasmussen (1949). If it's any help I was christened as a Lutherin so they may have been too but not sure. Any help will be much appreciated. I found these in the Danish emigration records:

Name: Christensen, Maren Kirstine
Occupation: Tyende (m/k land)
Age: 22
Destination: Ny Zeeland
Contract no.: 225000
Registration date: 9/30/1874
Last res. parish: Borre (Møn)
Last res. county: Præstø
Last residence: Borre S., Præstø A.
Destination country: New Zealand
Destination city: ?
Destination state: ?
Name of ship:
IndirekteIDcode: I7374C2910

Name: Rasmussen, Peter
Occupation: Tyende (m/k land)
Age: 23
Destination: Ny Zeeland
Contract no.: 225200
Registration date: 9/30/1874
Last res. parish: Borre (Møn)
Last res. county: Præstø
Last residence: Borre S., Præstø A.
Destination country: New Zealand
Destination city: ?
Destination state: ?
Name of ship:
IndirekteIDcode: I7374Æ0209

And looking through the Borre parish records I found a couple possibilities for you re Peter. There was a Peter Rasmussen born Feb 20, 1851 to Rasmus Larsen and Elizabeth Hansdatter. And a Hans Peter Rasmussen born Jan 9 1851 to Rasmus Jensen and Birthe Marie Petersdatter.

I didn't see a Maren Kirstine Christensen born in 52/53 in the Borre records - but did find a couple born in the neighboring parishes of Magleby, Keldby and Fanefjord

If you have any more info that might pin it down, like birthdates (or even months) or parents/siblings names I'd be happy to take another look for you. (Sometimes even the names of their children can be clues...)

J Murphy
Death of Freda Rasmussen - 1913

Taken from The Bulletin, San Francisco, 7 July 1913

GRAPPLE IN VAIN FOR DROWNED GIRL

Freda Rasmussen's Father Aids in Search for Body of Unfortunate

Rio Vista, July 7 - The efforts of a score of searchers dragging the Sacramento River for the body of Miss Freda Rasmussen, the pretty 16 year old Oakland girl, who drowned before her mother's eyes have been futile up to noon today.

P. Rasmussen, prominent Alameda manufacturer and father of the dead girl, has arrived here and is aiding in the search.

Miss Rasmussen was a graduate or the Alameda high school and lived with her parents at 1321 Adeline Street, Oakland. She came here with her mother to spend the holidays as a guest of Richard Hansen on Decker Island. Yesterday morning, accompanied by her mother, she went for a swim near Rio Vista.

With a shout of glee she plunged into the water and struck out, unaware of the tricky undercurrents which swirl about the spot. As the undertow resister her efforts to swim she mustered all her strength and battled her way to a boat anchored in the stream. She managed to seize the side of the craft, but throughly exhausted by the experience she let go her grip, screamed to her mother and disappeared. Mrs. Rasmussen, unable to give aid, became hysterical and fainted. She is now under the care of physicians and in a serious condition.
