My great great grandfather was Wilhelm Ludwig Rau, born 2 Dec 1842 in Oberensingen, Esslingen, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. He and his family emigrated to the US at some point, as he died in Milwaukee, WI on 27 Oct 1884. My great grandfather was Ludwig (Louis) Rau. He was also born in Germany, on 15 Sept 1866, and died in Milwaukee on 8 Nov 1933. Louis was married to Maria Louisa Kurz. As far as I know, they only had two children - my grandfather, Allen E. Rau, and his older sister Bertha.

Louis Rau had serveral siblings - Julius, Gustav, Adolf, Emil, Johannes, Karl, Eugene, and Marie.

I'd love to get in touch with any of you in our larger family.

I don't think there is a connection here but I will give you the information that I have re my Raus from Pfersdorf bei Hildburghausen in what is now Thuringia ( then Hesse)
From the Family album of the Kirchgenminde Pfersdorf the following entry is for the RAU family:
RAU, Johann Nicolaus born Eberhard 1 June 1804,Parish blacksmith, died Eberhard 19 October 1879, Married 1835 in Pfersdorf to LUTHER, Anna Margaretha born 28 September 1811.
Father of Johann Nicolaus; Johann Adam RAU, Farmer,overseer in Eberhard. Mother of Johann Nicolaus; Eva Margarethe born GANSS.
Johann Nicolaus RAU was my gggrandfather I have a photo of him c. 1873,
All of this had to be translate4d from the German Church script. Much of it still to do.

I am not sure when Nicolaus was born, but I have his death at 1769. I am pretty sure the area was Eltville or Erbach, spelling may be slighty off and not sure if these fall in the Thuringia area.
If you could have a look to see if there is a possible match it would be much appreciated

Haven't checked that branch for a while but I believe I have a Nicolas Rau born in late 1700's in Pfersdorf, Hildberghausen, now Thuringia. If there is a possible connection I will dig out my research. He was my 3rd great grandfather. Information came from church still in area.

She was born Aug 6, 1859 place unknown, died in PA in 1945, buried in Blakeslee Cem., Blakeslee,PA. Married Justus S. Blakeslee (my great grandfather)abt. 1877 in or near Blakeslee,PA and they had 8 children.

Hi All, I am hoping someone out there will be able to help me trace this line back further. I have only recently started researching my tree and I have managed to go back 8 or 9 generations pretty easily, but now I have hit a snag.

The first of my line to come to Australia from Germany was: Johann Peter Rau 1810-1886 who was married to Anna Maria Schubach 1815-1887
Johann's brother was Heinrich Rau 1815-1872 (who also migrated to Aust) who was married to Maria Joespha Idstein 1823-1864 and also to Barbara Nicolai
Johann's Sister was Elizabeth Rau 1821-1892 who married Christian Joseph Wartzelham 1820-1889
Johann's father was Caspar Rau 1782-1829 and his mother was Anna Maria Becker 1780-?
Johann's Grandfather was Heinrich Rau ?-1793 and was married to Catharina Barbara Gibbel 1752-1823
Johann's Great grandfather and this is where I am stuck was Nicolaus Rau ?-1769 who was married to Eulalia ?

Some other names that Johann and Anna are decendant from are:

Konig
Gans or Gens (found them spelt both ways)
Bibo
Schmidt

Some of the names or dates may be slightly off but any aditional information you can provide would be greatly appriecated.

Joseph Raymond died during WWII.
Robert George died 27 Dec 2001 in Ridgewood NJ.
I don't know if he was married or had any children.
I assume the other two children (Leddie and Richard) were also born in NJ but am not positive.

Henry and Letitia (Oreilly) Rau

Henry and Letitia were married in 1917. They lived in Jersey City and had at least 4 children: Joseph Raymond, Leddie, Robert George, and Richard - born between 1921 and 1926. Henry died in 1936 - don't have much information on the rest of the family. Joseph Raymond died during WWII. any information would be appreciated.

My grandfather Philipp Rau m. Paulina Kluck arrived from Dinkel, Russia 8 June 1907 on ship Baltic to work in North Dakota for his aunt Maria Katherina Rau and her husband George Henry Neff. He was traveling with two other young men also headed to ND. Wilhelm Bien and Alexander Neff brother of George Henry. According to family my great grandfather Adam died young and my great grandmother Katherina Margaret Beiden left Philipp to be raised by his grandfather Johan Peter Rau of Dinkel, Russia.

Johan Peter m. Anna Margaret Beiden also of Dinkel, Russia.

Would anyone have any info related to Philipp's parents? Other children of Johan Peter and Anna Margaret were Henry Jacob and Andrew Peter.

I have a Adelaide Rau in one branch of my tree. The father was Carl A. Rau and Emma Rau (Nee-Knaack). Carl was a son to my great grandmother Pauline Schoen.

These Raus lived in Cass and Swift Counties in Minnesota in the late 1800's/early 1900's.

Please contact me directly if your husband is related to this Adelaide Rau. I'm not positive, but this Adelaide might have been born on or about July 10, 1909.

Carl Rau was the son of Pauline Rau. Their residence before emigrating to the USA was Powidz, Posen.

Pauline married August Schoen (spelled Schön in Germany)around 1865 and then emigrated to the USA on a ship named Gellert from Hamburg, Germany. They departed Feb 28, 1892 bound for New York City. On board the ship with Pauline Schoen (Nee Rau) and August Schoen were my paternal grandmother Clara Schoen and another child Auguste (not sure if Auguste was male or female) but could be the child often referred to as "Gussie".

I see that this is an old message, but I am a recent researcher in this family line. I have a great deal of information on the Rough/Rowe family that your George Rough Jr. came through. I am a decendent of his brother William Rough/Rowe who married Martha Williams, whom you've mentioned.

His father is definately George b. 1781. His grandfather was Peter Rough of Augusta County VA. Please private message me and I would be happy to share much more information about this family line.

My great-aunt Myrtle Nelson (b. 1899) was a teacher from Tacoma, WA who married a Rau sometime during the 1920-1937 period and lived in Texas and Pennsylvania. She married a southerner named Smiley Alex Graham in 1937 and lived in the Panama Canal Zone after that. We are searching for any record of her marriage to a Rau.

Any luck on Mary Rau (not sure if Rau is correct spelling???) I understand from my Grandmother (Lillian Berwick) that Mary was a Sioux Indian. Mary Rau would be my great grandmother (married to Frank Bewick).

Our step great grandmother Elizabeth Rau is the daughter of Timothy Rau and Lovina Strohl. Elizabeth Rau married to Steve Smith and had a son name Leon Smith of St. Louis, Mo. Steve Died then Elizabeth married again to our great grandfather Dr.Ellwood Kemp of East Stroudsburg, Pa. Dr. Kemp died Aug. 1938 then Elizabeth Rau Smith Kemp moved back to St. Louis, MO. to be with her son Leon Smith. At age 90 she died on Jan. 25, 1949 buried with her first husband Steve Smith in St. John Lutheran Cemetery at Hamburg, Pa. Hope this email will share with you. Suzanne

Hi,
No, my Rau's start in Pennsylvania in the 1700's and the name changed as they migrated west to Row and Rowe. In the 1800's they moved on to Michigan and Indiana. A small portion of them moved to Wenatchee Valley in the 1920's but no Myrtle.

I have a Johanna Gottliebin Rau in my family tree. Born 31 May 1795 to Christian Ludwig Rau and Anna Maria Gerlacher. Johanna married my ggGrandfather, Carl Friedrich Allmendinger, son of Georg Heinrich Allmendinger and Christina Barbara Kerwecker. Carl Friedrich was born 28 March 1788, also in Horrheim.

Would love to know more about either of these families.

I have a Walter Rau in my family tree and checked but he did not have a son named Arnold. It would help if you would include birthdates when you make requests for information (and if you knew the name of the father of Walter Rau). There are many Rau families in the St. Cloud area but all of them are not related.

I ran across your family tree through an ancestry hint on John (Joannis) Michael Rau and his wife Angela - It looks like you have managed to go back a bit further than I have seen before, and that he had a wife before Angela and several children. I don't have a John Jacob Rau born in 1735. I have a Jacob Rau b. 1759 but don't know much info about him except that he had a son John which carried the Rau line to Row to Rowe and my grandmother.

I searched for Lutz, Stout and Wittenmeyer but don't have anything in my database.

What were the three daughters' names?

I am researching John Jacob Rau (1735-?) who married Anna Sybilla Lutz and came to Philadelphia in 1752. Two daughters married Stout brothers and another married George Adam Wittenmeyer.

I am seeking information on a Helen F. Rau, born to Joseph "Joe" Johann Rau & his wife Rosa.

They were enumerated in Menard County, TX on the 1930 census, living with Joe's mother Emilie (shown on the census as Amelia).

My understanding is that Rosa took Helen when she & Joe divorced. I do not know Rosa's maiden name or what happened to her and Helen.
