Hi everybody,
Do you have any more information on this Megnin family? I ask because of my ggggggrandmother named Susanna Megnin. I haven't been able to locate any baptismal or other any other maiden family members. In 1814, she married John Cornelius Dutch and in 1815 they were living in Bethnal Green when she gave birth to their son, George. John's occupation was listed as weaver on the record. Susanna died in 1857 at the Whitechapel Workhouse. George married in 1837 at Spitalfields Christ Church. In the 1880's or early 1890's George and his family moved from Bethnal Green London to Walthamstow Essex.
I ask because I haven't been able to find any records to link her with a specific Megnin family or even birth record. According to a conflicting death certificate, burial record, and census record she was born sometime in the 1770's or early 1780's. Her son's movements, living in Bethnal Green and then moving to Walthamstow, seem to correlate with this Megnin family that married into the Raven family.
Any thoughts or information you might be able to provide would be most appreciated.

My ggg grandfather was William Raven who married Ann Till
in 1836 in Coggeshall. On the 1841 census they were living at Stoneham Street, Coggeshall. By 1851 they lived in Brick Lane, Spitalsfield. William and Ann had three children, John (my gg grandfather), Osgood (who may have had a twin who died, yet to confirm) and Sarah.

I think that this Nancy Raven may be the dau. of John Raven was b. in Loweswater parish & bp. 25.6.1766. married ?
I have not yet found a link to my family.
However to complicate things I also found a Nancy (Ann)of Windybrow, Keswick bp. at Crosthwaite 10.11.1765 & she was the dau. of William Raven & Mary Benson ( = 11.4.1757 Crosthwaite) -it is very likely that she is the one who married Joseph Wren 18.10.1788. her siblings were Ruth, Thomas, Mary and John.

I have some details of Raven family in Brick Lane
I have a John Raven married to Sarah Megnin in 1857
Sarah's sister Emma married Osgood Raven -in 1876 they had a son also called Osgood born in 1878. Emma's husband Osgood died in 1879 and then she married John Rand my great grandfather.
John and Osgood's parents were William Raven and his wife Ann nee Till - before moving to Spitalfields/Bethnal Green area they lived in Coggeshall Essex, where my Rand family came from. hsppy to share information Rosemary

John Raven b. 1741 bp. 6 1.1741 Ireby,is my relative on my mother's side. He married Sarah Martin 21.5.1768 Crosthwaite Church (actually St. Kentigern's is it's correct name) at Keswick . Their son William b. 1777 married Ann Hetherington 5.10.1796 they were my gt.gt. grandparents. I have a large tree of their descendants & also of William's brother John who married Elizabeth Harrison. I'd love to know where you fit in.

John and Elizabeths daughter Jane Raven Married George Steele gg grandparents Thier son George Raven Steele Married Sarah Ann Atkinson who's son John Raven Steele married Jessie Selina Lawrence and came to Australia thier daughter was Doris Lillian who married Alfred Oxley Roberts and then there was me Allan Oxley Roberts. Oxley was my grandmothers madden name on my fathers side.

I am descended grom the elder son of John & Sarah Martin - William ; you from his brother John & Elizabeth Harrison. As you may know they had 13 children. It was said at John's funeral that he had 84 surviving grandchildren!! a lot of birthdays to remember.
I have been working on this line now for some time and recently found the family of his dau. Rebecca's eldest child also living in Australia.
For your direct line I have Jane Raven b. 7.2.1810 Greythwaite Farm, Mosser, bp.18.3.1810 Mosser, Cockermouth,
married George Steele 26.3.1835 at St. Bees ( witnesses James Spittal & John Raven). I have 10 chn. of this marriage. Your forebear George b. 1842 married Sarah Ann Atkinson 1873. d. 1866. I do hope you agree my findings & you will get back to me.

I await the outcome of your family details. I had a quick look through my tree & found that Jessie Selina Lawrence was b.1886 in Cumberland. John Raven Steele was a plumber aged 19 yrs. on the 1901 Census. I don't know when the emigrated.

You have found my ancestors. I too have perused the Ireby registers & others in the area. I have a large family tree which starts with Adam Raven c.1542 - 1580 & am up-dating my family records. John Raven who married Sarah Martin 1n 1768 is my 3xgt grandfather.

Does anyone have a list of the chn. of John Musgrave who married Isabella Raven in 1838? I am told they numbered 13.
John was b. 1816 at Lorton, Cockermouth, Isabella was b. 9.4.1820 at High House, Sandwith, St. Bees. She was a dau. of John Raven & Elizabeth Harrison.
John was a solicitor in Whitehaven.

Can anyone help me with my research into the family of John Raven b. 24.9.1815 d. 23.10.1870 the son of John Raven & Elizabeth Harrison. He married twice 1) Jane Boadle 2) Mary Harrison (a widow). He had 9 chn. to his first wife. I think Mary may have been his first wife's sister but am not sure - the Church Reg. just says a widow.

Otto Wilhem Johann Raven, 4.3.1831 in Verden, dies on 2.9.1906 in Kansas U.S.A. he was a pharmacist and a doctor. He had one daughter. Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Raven, 5.5.1833 in Verden died 2.6.1899 (Leipzig). George Wilhelm Ferdinand Raven 1.2.1835, Verden, dies 27.10.1905 in New York. Merchant in Hannover, he had one son and a daughter. Your great grand father Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Emil, 19.83.1840 in Verdenhe died 7.2.1918 in Australia. He married on 21.10.1871 with Caroline Elise von Ditterich en Maldon, Castle Maine, they had 10 sons, 7 sons and 3 daughters. Ernst August Raven, merchant born 3.10.1846 died 9.12.1890 in Hannover from Malaria. He lived in Hong Kong for many years. There also was a Ernst August Raven he was an archsbishop. Well, hello. I´m from Nicaragua, My great Grand Father, Otto Friedrich Hans Bodo Raven Ebeling. He came to America en 1911, first in Puerto Rica and them moved to Nicaragua an Costa Rica where he died being 99 years old. He was born in Barsinghausen. My Raven ancestors were John and Sarah Raven who lived in 46 Bick Lane. Sarah's maiden name was Megnin and they had a large family. Their daughter Eliza is my g/grandmother.
They lived in Walthamstow in the late 1890's. I would love
to hear from fellow descendants.

I found this post when searching for the key words "raven huguenot". I am tracing the Raven family (my maternal grandfather is a Raven) who were living around Brick Lane is silk weavers in the early 19th century. I am guessing but have no proof that they were Huguenots. In researching them online I've so far hit a brick wall at my great great great grandfather William Raven born in around 1816.
I'd be very interested to see any information that links the Raven line to a huguenot family. I will of course share whatever information I have, but that is sadly lacking.

Thanks for getting to me. At least I know that I am on the right line with Jane Raven being married to John Walton. I don't have any furthur info. for them, but I do have the details of their daughter Catherine who was married to John Richardson, then to Henry Whitfield and their subsequent families. That she was Walton took a bit of finding, as on her second marriage she was down as being Catherine Richardson, but a Ralph Walton was a witness. It was only when I discovered there was a grave for her which included John as well as Henry that I began to look for 2 marriages which I found, then her birth.
Do let me know if you would like further details about her.
I am currently going through some of the Lead Miners Bargain Books for the area they worked in and this is slowing giving me more information. I believe the family had some Allendale connections, so when I am next in the Record Office in Northumberland I will check it out.

Yes, my Jane Raven married John Walton in 1737. I know nothing further about the two of them. I am descended from her sister Sarah Raven and had been concentrating on that desendancy only. If I find anything further in my research I will let you know.

Did your Jane Raven marry a John Walton in 1737? They had a daughter Catherine born 1738 who married John Richardson in 1757.He died in 1758 and then she married Henry Whitfield in 1763. Catherine - now Whitfield died in 1773. If this is the same family, I would be interested in knowing more as I am descended from Catherine and Henry.

Hannah Raven bp.30.4.1865 was the dau. of Thomas Raven & Hannah Tyson. Thomas & Hannah were married 20.12.1851 at Eskdale. They had other chn. Mary Jane bp.26.8.1855; Frances b.1870 .I found this family whilst looking for members of my mother's family.

Many thanks indeed, I had got some of that but confirmation is good.
Coincidentally I had another contact via Cleveland FHS, who had a marriage in Whitby of 1799 Stephen Raven=Catherine Wilson plus another marriage in St Mary's Whitby, Mar 28 1830, John Ellis Richardson=Hannah Leng, witnesses Mary Ann Thompson, William Tyson, Stephen Raven!
All this has renewed my interest a bit as I lost a lot of my main tree in a crash a year ago. I rely on my Genes tree now. Are you with them?

I am african-american and most african american Ravens are from Harrison County, the other set of Ravens from Texas is in the Travis/Williamson County areas. There has to be some link since those are the only two areas in Texas where Ravens are (and I know no Ravens came from Africa!). Thanks for your help....

I am looking for anyone decendent from John Raven, who came to Lawrence, Van Buren County, MI in 1840 from Jefferson Co., New York State. He was born in New Jersey, married a woman from New York (I assume from Jefferson County) and had a family. His daughter was Julia Raven. She married Thomas Kemp, born in England and came to Bangor Township, Van Buren County, MI when he was 19 in 1819-1820. Their son, Charles was my father's mother's father. Our family believes he or his wife may have Native American family, possibly Cherokee. Can anyone help me?
