John Rawles/Ralls

I have come across a set of records that is staggering . It starts out as the Rolls family of Wilmingston ,Martin,NC in the 1700's. I was backtracking on record search's; James Rolls as such, his father was listed as john Rawls, and his father john sr. but spelt Rawles,Not too unusaul but his father was a Francis Rawle (no "s") who's father was aWilliam Rawle from Tresparrett,Cornwall,England who migrated to Suffolk,Nasemond co.,VA in the 1600's. Several others in this family seem to have migrated to Dorset,Somerset co.,in England as to the name changing at a very close time period to the american settlers of this family.

Here is some additional information about this family: John Wesley Rawles married Margaret Olive Weedman (called Ollie). Their three daughters were: Irene (b. 1896) married Unknown McGeorge; Lucille (b. 1898) married John Dorsey Pellow; and Imogene (b. 1900) married Marshall Woods. John Wesley had a daughter Lillian by his first wife. I have confirmed that John Wesley, Ollie, Irene, and Lillian are all buried in Dyer Co., Tenn. Would still like to get the photograph back to a direct descendant.

Frieda

Thanks for your message. It is certainly very interesting. I was born in 1948 and my sister whose name is Jennifer was born in 1950. My name is Liz Stephens and my mother was Daphne Rawles (1919 - 1969). My mother was married to John James Frederick Stephens (1910 - ) My mother's father was Harold Rawles - I do not have his dates at hand at the moment but I think he died in 1953 - his mother originally came from Schwerine in Germany and their name was Oertling. Harold married Mary Verena Rawles (nee Palmer). I can check this out later. I would be VERY interested in hearing from you again even to say that here is connection. Let me know if you want any further details.

Hello Rick, I live in England. Have been to the church in Fifehead N but obviously could not read the stone. Looked in Hutchins and there is some info in there also the DRO but time flies by and I wasn't able to look at all I wanted to.
I am back as far as a John Rawles who was born in Wool in 1766 but he also had connections with Poole according to his marriage entry.
I believe his parents were John Rawls and Mary - the different spellings don't help do they?
John born in Wool married Betty Purchase in Bere Regis and the family lived there for the next 80 years - my line moving to Hampshire.
Hello Joy, I have no knowledge of Rawles's at Wool, but there is a worn flag stone in Fifehead Neville church with reference to the name. I believe my brother has the words recorded before they became illegible. The story goes that from Fifehead some of the family moved to Oakford. I am hoping to have the oppertunity to look around there when I visit the UK next year. Shillingstone village is also a place where Rawles's lived, as testified by the graves. Are you living over there or America? cheers, Rick
Kathy, I too am a decendent of Elisha Rawles/Frances Headley via son James. Who do you show as their children? There is some confusion on that matter, maybe you can help us to straighten it up. Thanks! Judi
