John Ronald Raybould 1909- Beryl Irene Raybould 1906

John Ronald and Beryl Irene were brother and sister.
John was born in 1909 and is my Grandfather so Beryl is my Great Auntie and was born in 1906.
John Ronald was killed in a car crash in 1937 on the Great Pontin Road at the age of 28. He left a widow Alice Ethel Thompson, and two children, my Father Ronald Edward And my Auntie Margret.
John and Beryl's Father was Harry and mother Irene Mabel Partridge.
Harrys father was Thomas and mother Ann marie Andrews.
Thomas was a licensed victualiser and was the landlord of The notoriously haunted Cock Inn Rubery, Bromsgrove, from i know at least 1870 untill 1893 when Thomas died. Harry was born in 1870 at the Cock Inn and is on his birth certificate.
Harry had a younger brother called Elijah who married Annie Wilcox.
I do also believe there was an oldest brother called Albert, one second eldist sister called Mary and a third eldest brother called Francis with Harry being the forth eldist and Elijah the youngest born in 1874.
There is conflicting information about the three eldest but i am convinced they are a family.
I do belive the father of Thomas was called Samuel and his mother Pheobe.
If anyone recognises any of these family members please contact me.
For all the other Raybould family trees no one seems to know my family.
John Ronald, Harry and Thomas all lived in Bromsgrove.
Beryl Irene apparently ran a shop of some sort. Beryl married Harold Henry Wilkes.
Please get in touch, i have a lot of family that i want to know.

The name Raybould is still used in my family, my cousin Nian Gregory Raybould is the latest to use the name. I know that some of them came from Lower Gornal as I have 'In memorium' notices for them dated 1901. We could be related

Hello,

I'm Robin Raybould. Your father is my half brother. I have not seen him since 1973. All the info Bev gave you is mostly correct. My grandparnets last name was Akin. (no s) After my grandmother passing we found info about your father in her papers and pictures. I'm sure the photo are before your time. (?) At times he used other names, his fathers last name was Madrey (not sure if the spelling is right, but I know for a fact that he was going under that name many times over.) I have under good info that he is living in CA somewhere. Did you find him? I'm also looking for him. I have become ill and I would like to see him before I go. If you have any info on him I could use the help. Please email @ rraybould@si.rr.com I have some pictures of your father when he was young if you would like to see them, let me know.

Jonas was the son of David and Caroline (nee Jones) who married in 1890, but I have not been able to trace a birth for this David - although I have not tried hard.
I am a descendant of Benjamin Raybould (born 1823 Netherton)
However, Not the same Benjamin Raybould, Son of John & Rosetta... My ancestor is the son of Richard Raybould and Phoebe Little. (1841 England Census) Baptist End, Rd. Netherton, Worcester. My Benjamin married Maria (b. 1826) and I was certain that her maiden name was "Handley" and I found a corresponding reference to their marriage. I ordered their daughter Phoebe Raybould's birth certificate, and Maria's maiden appears to read: "Mantle." I found an 1841 England Census that matches her marriage to Benjamin Raybould~ Now I'm stumped. Any ideas?
I have asked the gro to search for her birth records and they have come up with nothing for the years 1880-18890. he married Elijah boulton. Totally stuck. I have both death certificates but not a mention of birth date or where born. All I know is that they lived at 10 trent terrace where my father was born. They moved to liverpool and lived in garston.
My grandfather's info is as follows: born, 1898...died in New Jersey 1972....last known residence (they traveled) Tulsa...buried in Oak Ridge TN. His son (my uncle) HG Raybould Jr, died in Tulsa last year. My grandparents raised all of their children in Chicago, IL on "M Street". They had 4 children, 2 surviving. My grandfather had a brother in 1930 named George Harold Raybould. Their father was George (imagine that). I THINK I've tracked a little further laterally. George Harold had a son, Milton, who had a son Milton. Thats as far as I've gotten. My grandmother's name was Clarissa Louise Helbing. Thanks!!!!

I hope your new job is going well. My grandmother was a Raybould and I was surrounded by them as a child! They are the main focus of my research. Most Rayboulds are concentrated in the part of England that we call the Black Country, which lies to the west of Birmingham. I see on the SSDI that a Harold Raybould died in Tulsa in June 1972. His SSN was issued in Illinois. Is this your garndfather? What was his age at death (or in the 1930 census)? Did he have any brothers or sisters? I have a lot of Raybould family information and I am sure we can track him down with just a little more information.

Dear Rebecca,

I do know of a George Edward Raybould who married Isabella Susannah Houldey (in 1898) and amongst their offspring was a George and a Harold, and one of their brothers had a son Kenneth who has a daughter Rebecca. Is this just coincidence? Does Egg Hill Farm mean anything to you?

If none of this means anything to you, contact me anyway and I'll have another go...

Nigel Brown

The names I have found for my Raybould tree are: George Raybould married Bella...they had 2 sons, Harold George b 1898 & George Harold. George Harold had a son...Milton. Milton married Eva & had 2 sons... Milton Jr & John. Does any of this ring any bells?

Thank you for responding so quickly. Unfortunetly, I don't think there will be a connection. My grandfather came over from Germany. Harold George Raybould was born March 25, 1898. His parents were George & Bella. My grandfather lived in Chicago with my grandmother (Clarissa Helbing). That's all I know. I don't know if he had brother's or sisters, or anything else.

One of my uncles did tell me that a Scott Raybould had done considerable research for our family tree, but he doesn't have the info, & I haven't been able to fine him.

Again, thank you for your help.

I have two clues as to my Raybould connection in Chicago. One is that my grandmother spoke of her oldest brother as having had the chance of going to live and work in Chicago at the invitation of relatives there. My uncle did not take up the offer. The second evidence is a postcard from Chicago dated 21 May 1909 from "Maria" to her cousin John Raybould, my grandmother's father. The picture on the postcard is of the Union Park Congregational Church, which I understand is now the First Baptist Congregational Church, at 60 North Ashland, Chicago. In the few written words she asks if the church is like the one she went to when she was in England, but it not clear if this was on a visit or in the early years of her life before emigration. She mentions her father, but not by name, and an uncle Will and an uncle Jim. She is discussing a picture sent to them and they are trying to work out who it is of.

I am sure that these were close relations, and that there was a lot of contact with my lot back home in England. However, I am unable to work out who they are, and I have a fairly comprehensive Raybould family tree. Of course, they may not even have the surname Raybould, if they are the offspring a of a married female Raybould.

The uncle who was invited over to Chicago was John William Raybould, and he had brothers and sisters Ellen, Elsie Maria (my grandma), Benjamin, Rosehannah, Baden, Alfred, Joseph and Hubert. Their mother was Mary Ann formerly Attwood, and their Raybould grandmother was Mary (her two sons John and Alfred took their mother's name, their father was William Garratt but Mary later married James Yardley).

Does any of this mean anything to you. What do you know about your grandfather Harold George Raybould?

There was a Raybould's shop in Cradley High Street, when Cradley had a High Street. I believe the proprietor was a Harold Raybould. I do not think he is "one of mine", certainly not close, but I could yet be proved wrong on this.

I will need to attempt some more research probably with my older sisters. I can only remember that in the 1950's, I used to cycle from Kings Heath, Birmingham, where I lived as a child, over to my Aunts shop named "Rayboulds Stores" somewhere in Cradley, which she owned for many years. I think she remained a spinster all her life. I also have a feeling that they lived in the Sparkhill area of Birmingham as children. I saw her little as I did with most of my Aunts on my fathers side, due to a family disagreement over the inheritance of my Grandfathers money following an early death.
I believe he owned Butchers shops. I don't even know most of their names I'm afraid.
I'll contact you again if I can obtain better info.

Regards.

My father came to Cradley at the end of WW2, and married my mother (to be) soon after. His family were Londoners whereas the John Brown of Queen Victoria fame was a Scotsman. So I can't help you on that aspect of your ancestry. But I am interested in your Cradley connection. Frederick Harry Raybould is not of my immediate family, but there were a lot of Rayboulds in Cradley. Are you saying that your father's sister came to Cradley from somewhere else? Where from? Where were they born?

I was interested in your search for Rayboulds. My Father Frederick Harry Raybould, born 1909 with 8 sisters, one of which lived in Cradley, would tell us stories of a famous Brown in our ancestry. John Brown, Queen Victorias supposed lover and confidante. I have little other info, but if you think this is worth researching, contact me and we can make further enquiries.

Regards

Yes, I am researching Rayboulds, mainly in Cradley (in the Black Country) and Birmingham. I have traced my Rayboulds in Cradley back to the early 1830s when my 3rd great grandparents William and Rosannah Raybould came to Cradley. William was born in Harborne, although I have yet to find any record of him there, and the first two sons were born in Cannock and Rowley Regis. I have records 100s of my Rayboulds and their spouses and offspring, also copies of numerous other Raybould family trees.

Do get in touch - and take a look at www.cradleylinks.com
