They lived with their grandfather, Edward Mayo, on Bronson Boulevard in Kalamazoo. The last I knew they were attending public schools there. That was 1963.

Can you recall where/what street they may have lived on, or what schools (grade or high school) they or Debra may have attended? Finding Debra, if still living, may be alot of work,if married. I may be able to search Marriage records, but that does not mean she may have been married in another State??? Thanks for your time.

Hi I am trying to find information on the Rayburn/Roach family.

In particular, I am trying to find the American Indian in the family.

From what I can gather, Rev. Richard Roach married a Delilia Rayburn and she was reported to be full blooded Indian, tribe unknown. They had one child, Martha Jane Roach who married a James Barlow in MS.

Still not quite sure if they are related. Not having much luck.

Rayburn N. Mississippi pre-Civil War

Who were the parents of Andrew D. Rayburn who was born about 1834 and died in Civil War March 1863?

We know from CSA military records that Louisa Jane Rayburn was the husband of Andrew D Rayburn. From the 1903 Lafayette County Court records for the administration of the estate of Mrs. J. D. Collins also refereed to as Mrs. L. Collins we know that Mrs. Fannie Williams (Sara Frances Rayburn wife of E.R. Williams) and her sister Mrs. Bettie Cook (Elizabeth E. Rayburn) were heirs of Mrs. J. D. Collins; This Mrs. Collins was Louisa Hathaway the widow of Andrew D Rayburn who died in Virginia while serving in Co I of the 42nd Regiment, Mississippi Infantry, CSA.

Now the question becomes who were the parents of Andrew D Rayburn. According to the 1860 US census there were at least two Andrew Rayburn's in the North Mississippi area of Lafayette/Marshall/Panola/Tate counties.

1860, September 30th Panola Co, MS census, family 942:
Sarah Powers, age 87, born Alabama real estate value $8,000 personal property $9,000 (most likely slaves; seems to be a plantation);
Andrew D Rayburn, age 26, born what looks like Tennessee, occupation overseer;
Elizabeth A Rayburn age 25, born what looks like Tennessee,
Unreadable E Rayburn, Female age 6, born Mississippi, [Elizabeth "Bettie" Rayburn, Sara F's sister]
Sarah F Rayburn, age 2, born Mississippi.
This census would seem to be our Andrew D Rayburn, father of Sarah Frances Rayburn, Sara F's age reflects the correct year of birth 1858 and Andrews age of 26 is correct when compared to his age of 28 shown on his 1862 military records. But who is Elizabeth A Rayburn? CSA military records show the name of Andrew D. Rayburn's wife as both Louisa Jane Rayburn and Louiza Jane Rayburn. Is Louisa or Louiza a nick name for Elizabeth?
1860 Lafayette Co, Ms census, pg 73, family 464:
Mahala Rayburn, age 52, born Tennessee, occupation farmer, real estate value $1,600 personal property $2,000
James Rayburn, age 24, born Tennessee
Andy Rayburn, age 22, born Mississippi
Houston Rayburn, age 21 born Mississippi
Eliha Rayburn, age 17, born Mississippi
Sarah Rayburn, age 18, born Mississippi

1850 Lafayette Co, Ms census, family 1273:
Mrs. M. W. Rayburn age 43, female real estate value $600 born Tennessee
H. N. Rayburn, age 22, male, farmer, born Tennessee
James A Rayburn, age 17, male, student, born Tennessee
Andrew D Rayburn, age 16, male, student, born Tennessee
Saml H. Rayburn, age 13, male, born Mississippi
Sarah L Rayburn, age 10, female, born Mississippi
Robt C. Rayburn, age 8, male, born Mississippi
I believe the Mahala Rayburn and the Mrs. M. W. Rayburn in the above 1860 and 1850 census to be Mahalia Williamson Rutledge widow of Samuel Shanklin Rayburn who died in 1846. However, note that the ages of several individuals in the 1850 and 1860 census don't differ by 10 years as they should. Especially note that Andrew D Rayburn's age is shown as 16 in 1850 and 10 years later it is 22, not 26. Also note that the 1850 census shows Andy born Mississippi and the 1860 census shows Andrew D Rayburn born Tennessee.

1870 Census:
J.D. Collins 56 Farmer born in TN, Real Estate $400.00 born about 1814
Louisa Collins 36 Born TN, about 1834
Alice Collins 2 MS about 1868
Rayburn, C 15 F about 1855
Rayburn, Francis 12 (there is a transcripation error, It is listed as 52 or 53 year old Man) You can see that the Census taker made a mistake and wrote what appears to be 12 over the incorrect age. This would match the expected age of Sarah F. Rayburn. Also it appears he has marked a W under Sex. I think this is a W for White not a M for Male.

Based on the above information I can't be sure that the parents of the Andrew D Rayburn who was the father of Sarah Francis Rayburn were Mahalia and Samuel Shanklin Rayburn?

Need death info. on my 2nd-great-grandmother, Lucretia Grantham, born abt. 1848 in Mississippi. The records/information I'm seeking pertain to her DEATH & BURIAL location only. I notice some folks list her as dying around 1900, but no one has attached records to their trees to verify this date. I would like to know also if she is buried in St. Tammany Parish, LA area or elsewhere. I've been doing exhaustive online searches here, on FindAGrave.com, the LDS site and Footnote to no avail. She was married to Calvin Rayburn and they lived in MS and LA. I am their 2nd great-grandaughter. If anyone knows Calvin Rayburn's date of death and where he is buried, I'd like to know this also. Thanks in advance.
Henry Delmar Rayburn

I am looking for my grandfather Henry Delmar Rayburn, and his family. He was married to my grand mother Dorothy Holland Rayburn in the late 30's early 40's and lived in Suffolk, Va. They had 2 boys, Henry Delmar Rayburn 1936 of Suffolk, Va and Robert Lee Rayburn 1939 (my father born in DC)of Suffolk, Va. He went by Del, Delmar, Henry, H.D., H. Delmar during his life. I know he remarried and had other kids. I believe he was in the Fla, Ky, Ohio areas and messed with horses. There is a death of HD Rayburn in Cullman, Ala but I'm not sure it's him. Any help would be appreciated. I can find a marriage license to my grandmother, the death above and a couple newspaper articles but nothing else.

I am hesitant to post things on the websites. I learned the hard way, not everyone wants to know the truth and can twist "sourced facts" to suit. My goal is to get the info to family members who are interested in knowing what happened to Thomas.

Thomas was born in Corydon, Iowa, changed his name as a teenager, he died in Oklahoma. Ive noticed confusion in other postings regarding Thomas Burdett Rayburn. He has either been omitted as the child of James and Nancy, or his life has been created with other unsourced info. I am fortunate enough to have been given Thomas's paperwork from the military, his funeral book, etc. that documents his birth, parentage, along with other info about the Rayburn Family.

Hi! That is WONDERFUL to find such important documents!

If possible, would you please post that information in this forum. You can attach files and pictures.

It might help others make a connection of which they were unaware, and prevent your having to send to so many individuals.

If you need help, please let me know.

Thanks for sharing this information!

Patsy

This is a shot in the dark. I don't know anything about this family.

You might check the family of James Hasten Rayborn.
He was in the census in Rayborn, Wright County, Missouri from at least 1900-1930. He had a daughter Bessie Virginia RAYBORN who was born about 7 June 1920. Her mother was James Hasten's fourth wife, Mary Gustive BRICKEY. James Hasten was about 67 when Bessie Virginia was born.

James Hasten RAYBORN died about 13 January 1951 in Springfield, Missouri.

Re: Rayburn /Rayborn,

In the 1910 Census for Henry County, it lists the following:
Green D. Rayburn born abt. 1871
Effie B.
Green's mother: Sarah
William L. abt. 1893
Richard M. abt. 1895
Thomas B. abt. 1897
Sarah E. abt. 1899
Dora B. abt. 1901
Sarah abt. 1834
James T. Cacey - Boarder

When you listed the children, you didn't mention Thomas B. so I wasn't sure if you had that information or not.

I've never found a connection to the Rayburns in Middle/West Tennessee but haven't wondered if they were somehow connected to my Rayburns in East Tennessee.

Also in a later census, Green is listed as Hovie G. Rayburn and their daughter Bessie is living with them along with her husband, Frank Bennett and their children Estell, Helen Troy L. and Roy D.

Kamy Rayburn Gamble
