I have an odd request. I found a Oil Painting by Rayne. Painted in 1884. He or she was a portrait painter. Maybe from Maine? Anyone have an artist in their family tree? It's a portrait of Mrs. Willis, maybe family or family friend.

Looking for an old photo with inscription Sabre Rayne. Should be an old black and white photo of a woman in a white dress, possibly with a little ankle showing, sometime in the 1800s or very early 1900s. Was once in a red velvet photo album with a lock of some sort. Belonged to John Smith and Edith Romig Smith. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Re: RAYNE in London

Nick,
Your grandmother Meta Reddish Rayne was niece to my great grandfather Adelbert Reddish. I've been slowly tracking down this Reddish family. I have pretty much all the names and dates of the Warsaw area Reddish family, and I have their ancestors dating back to the 1700s in Maryland.

On Meta, I have a local newspaper article on her success in Italy, along with a photograph of which the quality is not the best. I have about a page and a half (copied) of her brother's book, "A Chronicle of Memories," in which Claude describes a little of their childhood and talks about their grandparents Hiron Reddish and Eliza Watkins, my gg grandparents. Have you heard of this book? I also have Claude's obituary, and believe Meta came home to be with him prior to his dying.

Nick, if you'd like to have any of this information I'm happy to share it with you. Meta's daughter who died in CA had a social security number which is how I came across her - I was searching Reddish and she came up because that was her mother's maiden name. I knew it had to be Meta's daughter because she was born in England, and only knew that she married a Rayne, never had a given name.

You can write to me privately at NoShowclc@aol.com
I was very interested to find out more about Meta, her musical career and family - I have a copy of 'Success in Music and How it is Won' by Henry T.Finck, with a handwritten dedication to Meta Reddish, Napoli, Xmas 1909, from a Mr Allen Olmsted of Buffalo. She must have been quite young then, but obviously on her way to success!
