Big Sis here. We will be getting more information from the Native site. Please contact us if you have any information on our father and his family.

His brother was Clifford and their monther was Hettie. Their father is Luis Raynor. We think Hettie was born, raised and died on the Reservation. Where Luis also lived and died. Clifford and my dad, Robert LeRoy Raynor was also born on the Reservation. When both parents died Clifford was 16 and alowed to stay with his mothers family. Since my dad was 8, he was taken away from his mothers family and given to an Aunt in the Raynor clan to be raise in the White Mans world.

Contacting the Native Tribal Ancestry now to find out more information.

Bobbie Jean (Raynor) Harris

My husbands g.grandfather was Howard Raynor, his daughter Lucille Raynor married Robert Lyroy Dunbar. The name Lyroy is not heard very often.
Howard Raynor was born around 1871 in East Quogue, Long Island, New York and married Jessie Jenkins in 1891.

Good luck in your search.

Patience Raynor of Suffolk, County, New York

Patience Raynor who married Eugene Albertis Raynor and they lived in Southold on Eastern Long Island was the younger half sister of my great-great-grandmother Catherine "Kate" Elliott who was married to John Parker Warner and lived at Canoe Place, in Hampton Bays (or also known as Good Ground.) I have seen Patience's mother listed as Martha Henry as well as Martha Henry O'Toole. In the 1880 Census in Riverhead there is a Martha Elliott with a daughter Catherine and the birth date matches my gg-gm. Additionally Martha Elliott lives next door (or at least appears just before) a Mary Henry who is old enough to be Martha's mother. It could all be coincidence. I've seen several posts (threads) from people who have Patience Raynor in their tree and are closely related. I am interested in any information on her mother. Thanks for any and all help.

Hello Janice,

It is good to hear from you. I too would be willing to share information on the Raner & Van Gilder families. What can I do to help you? Would you mind sharing the names of their children? I would like to locate the Dempsey family in the 1855 and 1865 NY State census. Also would you be willing to share what county in Michigan Mary B (Raynor) Dempsey lived in? I would like to locate an obit or death certificate for her.

Looking forward to hear from you,

Debbie Freeman
freeames at comcast dot net

I recently came across your posting on Raner/VanGilder of Cayuga, NY. In my husband's tree we have a Mary B. Raynor born abt. 1822 in Cayuga, NY. She married a John Dempsey who died in Niles, Cayuga in 1863. She later moved to MI with her children. This could possibly be a sister to your Amelia. I would like to exchange information.
Yes Piercy was David Rainers daughter. It is in his estate records and in the will of his 2nd wife Amy McLamb Rainer. After his death she married John Bright Draughon. Also, there was a death notice stating that she was the daughter of David Rainer. Her name was Naomi Piercy Rainer/Raynor. All of these records are at the Sampson County courthouse except for the death notice which was published in Fayetteville. (Published in the obituaries in Fayetteville, NC the death of Naomi Pearcy Draughon: died in Sampson Co 14 April 1853 Naomi wife of John B. Draughon dau. of David Rainer aged 56 years.)
Phil,

I have looked at your April 3 message with the lists of citations again. Let me suggest a different interpretation of the final document that you referred to as "odd." I don't think that this is after the death of Green Wood (and, as you pointed out, the date is before his death so that makes sense). It appears to me that this is after the death of David Rainer and that Amy Rainer and Lovitt Eldridge are his administrators. When the sheriff is directed to take the bodies of J. Fellow and Green Wood, I think that it simply directs him to get these men to court, like a subpoena or a writ of habeas corpus ( and has nothing to do with dead bodies). Writs opf habeas corpus usually if not always arise in the context where someone is in custody and literally translates "produce the body." This isn't that kind of situation but I think that the term "bodies" is being used in a similar manner. Do you have a copy of the original? It would be interesting to see if anohter set of eyes could make out some of the words for which you have blanks.

Anne

When you say you need proof about Pearcy Rainer I'm thinking you mean court documents. First, let's list Green and Pearcy's children so you can relate them to the following documents.
1.Clinton
2.Green W.
3.David
4.Furnifold
5.Absabeth Swan
6.William Rufus
7.Pearcy

Next, I will list the court record book, the record and who it would pertain to you so, i will not be typing the entire document.

1.Abstacts of Johnston Co.Record of Estates Vol. XI N.C. Archive 86 56.501.11

287. Sales of Est. of Green Wood, dec. 16 Sept. 1822
Buyers-

Widow Wood,
Furnifold Wood, Sr.,
James J. N.C. CM 1827-1830
Ordered that John Rainer be appointed Guardian to Clinton, Green(W), David, Furny, Apsy(Swan), William, and Pearcy Wood minors of Green Wood, decd who.........

4.Johnston Co. N.C. CM 1839-1842 Feb. 1839

Ordered that John Rainer be appointed Guardian to Pearcy G.Wood and (William) Rufus Wood who enters into bond in the sum of $250.00 with James Rainer

5.This next document was sent to me with no references. It's an odd document I don't understand it. I will type it verbatim.

Translation of a document for a hearing following the death of Green Wood, husband of Pearcy Rainer and son-in-law of David Rainer

State of North Carolina
To the sheriff of Sampson County greetings
You are hereby commanded to take the bodies of John Fellow and Green Wood___________be found in your county and them safely keep so that you have them before the_____ of our_____ County Court of pleas and quester to be held for the county of Sampson in the Court House in Clinton on the third monday in August____ then and there to answer the administrators of David Rainer, Amy Rainer, and Lovitte Eldridge to the use of Owen Thorton of a Plea of cousin and brother to their damage one hundred and four pounds.
Herein fail not and have you then and there this _____ _____
James Holmes-Clerk
12th July 1822.As you can see the dates don't jive because Green is still alive in July.

Ok, thats all the legal documents I have. I hope they help you out.
I realized #2 and #3 need to be flopped to be in proper time
also Pearcy remarried a Draughton. Good Luck-Phil Wood
Thanks so much. We look forward to hearing from you.

Clinton was in AR and then moved to Cass Co. TX where he died in 1885. My friend descend from his daughter Susan Wood (wife of Oliver Renfro Hall). She stayed in AR but I think that Clinton moved to TX with another child or children. The next generation was also still in AR but then Susan's and OLiiver's grandson went to TX.

I have copies of some court documents pertaining to an auction to pay off debts that Green Wood had at the time of his death.Pearcy is mentioned. Also have court documents of relatives, including Raynors, taking over guardianship of the children and I think she is mentioned. When I get home I'll see what I have and get back to you tomorrow. I ascend from Furnifold Wood, Green Wood, Furnifold Wood (Clinton's brother). I always thought Clinton ended up in Arkansas. Also you could do the DAR through the Wood line. The first Furnifold was in the Sampson County NC Militia. His brother, Young Wood's Family Bible is located at the DAR Library in Washington D.C. Young Wood was also the executor of Green Wood's estate after his death so maybe the DAR has info on Pearcy in his file. I'll get back to you tomorrow. Phil Wood

Phil,

Have you found proof that Piercy was David Rainer's daughter and the wife of Green Wood? I am helping a friend with a DAR application. So far DAR is not satisfied with the Piercy Wood deed to John Rainer conveying land received in the distribution of David Rainer's estate. They also agree that we havce proved that Clinton was the son of Green but not that Clinton was necessarily the son of Piercy as well. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Do you descend from Clinton? SInce you are in TX, I thought that was a possibility.

Hi Laura, great to hear from you. I guess you have been waiting for a while judging from your initial post in this forum being 2006. No need to trade photo's. I am quite happy to share them with you. Not sure if I have any photo's of David Spicer myself, however I do have some good photo's of his family. There is one photo but i can't identify who they are. Could be David??Are you familiar with google picasa? I can share my photo's with you through this however I will need to know your email address. Don't post this on the forum by the way. It is more secure to send it to me through ancestry's email service. Look forward to hearing from you.

Dan

Oh happy day! I'm so glad to hear from you. I've been waiting to hear from someone. I have a very lovely portrait picture of Beatrice with her sister Ada Jane when they are around maybe 8-11. Really nice. I have no photos of David Rayner or his first wife Ann Rayner. I do have a photo of Horace "Tot" Rayner, one of their sons. My grandmother used to talk about him and Aunt Beatie (Beatrice) I'll trade you some photos and would be happy to pay for shipping, copying etc. Let me know. I would be most grateful.
Which line are you researching? Best to you, Laura M. in Michigan

Susan RAYNOR, Kent, UK ca. 1610 nr Canterbury...who was she?

This Susan RAYNOR shows up as recipient of a bequest in the will of Thomas SARE of Linstead, Kent, UK, in 1608. SARE held properties between Faversham and Linstead, including Norton, Doddington, etc. My guess is that she was either born a SARE, or else had a SARE grandparent, most likely Thomas above. Very specific area, between Canterbury and Maidstone. I descend from Susanna Sare, w/o Robert Barham, who was d/o Thomas Sare....hence my interest.

Many RAYNERS/ RAYNORS in this neck of the woods in the 1400-1600 timeframe; check the online East Kent Will Index edited by M.J. and D.G. Cozens. url below:

http://www.kentarchaeology.ac/ekwills_a/series/ekp_p1/ekp_p1...

Tribal Ancestry Chart?????

I am reposting this message in hopes someone new sees it.

I found a message posted on the Dotson Forum and cannot make contact with the person that posted it, Brandy Kingsolver. I will repost the message on this forum in the hopes that someone knows what Tribal Chart she is referring to. The Archibald Dotson listed here is my grgrgr-grandfather.

Thanks for any help,
James Gastineau
apd_282@yahoo.com

Hi Everyone,
I've been reading all the messages and although there is a wealth of info for me to start on, I have not seen anything about Archibald Dotson or Celey Raincrow. I have a copy of a Tribal Ancestry Chart for a Elva C.L. Griggs. It connects the Griggs, Jones, and Dotsons. Here is just a short part of it:
William Abraham Dotson
b. 1783 North Carolina
d. 1862 WarEagle, Arkansas
m. Nancy (Elizabeth) Raynor (1798)
d. 1838 McMinn County, Tennessee
(William was Choctaw and Nancy was Cherokee)

On this chart it only lists one child although I have found record of more.
Archibald Dotson
b. 1800 - 1802 North Carolina
d. 1881 + WarEagle, Arkansas
m. Celey Raincrow 1825 (?)
b. 1799 Kentucky
d. 1874 Oklahoma
(Archibald was Choctaw, Celey was Cherokee)

Archibald and Celey had William Dotson who married Eliza Spencer. They had Cynthia Adeline Dotson b. 1871 in WarEagle, AR married Louis Gum Jones b. April 17, 1870 in Mt. Vernon, MO. He died Jan 28, 1956 in Stockton, CA and she died 1890 (?) in WarEagle, AR.

I have more that I would be happy to share. Louis & Cynthia were my maternal Ggreatgrandparents and I'm trying to sift from there. And fill in blanks with the Dotsons.

Please contact me here or at my email address. Am looking forward to hearing from anyone.
Brandy
Hello Bob,

Thank You for your reply.

I believe it is possible that the Joshua Raner you mentioned could be the one. My problem is that one cemetery website says he is an adult, and another cemetery website says he is a child.

I hope one day to locate a source which could prove this Joshua Raner's age. And another source which could prove who he is married, and or a child of which couple.

Thank You,
Debbie Freeman

Hello Etta,

No problem. I will have the copies in the mail to you by Friday.

I am having a hard time locating Joshua Raner. Do you know when or where Joshua Raner was born or died, or is buried?
I assume he died before 1850, leaving Hannah a widow to raise her younger children.

Are the Raner's in the Owasco Rural Cemetery in Onondaga County next door to Owasco, Cayuga Co., NY related to our Joshua Raner?

The online version of the cemetery has a Willie Hall which matches.

I have joined the Ranyner Family Association as well.

Hopefully one day I can locate information on all 11 children (according to Hannah's 1865 census) of Joshua Raner and Hannah Vangilder.

Thank You once again,
Debbie Freeman

freeames at comcast dot net

Hello,

Thank You for your reply. I appreciate it. Yes I believe they are the correct couple. I have my ancestors Nebraska death certificate, and the Nebraska cemetery information, as well as the 1850 census. The 1850 (Wells Hall household, Cortlandville, Cortland Co., NY) census says she was born in Cayuga Co., NY. Her death certificate says Joshua Raner and Hannah Vangilder as her parents, most of her children are born in Niles, Cayuga Co. NY.

I have given Claudia Manchaster my contact information to share, and will probably be mailing what little Raner family information (copies that I have, some of which I have mentioned) to Claudia this week.

Would you like copies of these as well?

At present I do not have a scanner yet. So I am mailing them the old fashion way. US Post Office.

Thanks again, Debbie Freeman

PS - Thank You for sharing the variation of the spelling. I would like to try to locate Joshua in the pre 1850 census.
