My father did a lot of research in the late '60s and we travelled down to those Kentucky counties you mention. I remember and recognize all the names you have discovered.

If you continue to dig you will discover a Mary Rector who was married into the Boone family...as in Daniel Boone. I remember seeing this headstone in a cemetery in KY. when I was ten years old.

As for my father, you can check Who's Who, Royal Blue Book and the National Social Directory from 1967 thru 1972. It lists the seven books he authored, (which I have) and many of the awards he received throughout his career.

As for me, I am in Key West........

You are doing very well. Besides Jim, Mike and Greg there was Linda Karen Rector, married Steven R. Lowe in Atlanta, GA, one son, Jeffrey Lowe, Atlanta, GA; and me Harvey Brian Rector. Linda was born in Germantown, OH, 10/29/48. I was born in Dayton, OH, 2/1/54.

I remember my mother telling of being married by a a Justice of the Peace, but I do not know where. I do remember Oct. 1933. I think they lived with my mother's parents, James Nathan and Lillian Holt until my brother Jim was born and then moved to a farm in Brown Co., OH You must remember this was in the depths of the Depression.

Hope this helps.

This is what my aunt Sandy has found:

As you know I've been working on the Rector/Pingleton family and putting together for your dad the Family Tree and Family Group Record and putting it all in order into a book binder. I have found some records on Harvey and his first wife Virginia Avery Holt and their children. I don't know how many children they had, but did find four sons and their second child was Michael Eugene Rector, born 28 May 1940 and was married to Donna Jean Ramsier. Another son Gregory Paul Rector was born 28 July 1946 in Dayton, Ohio. The oldest son was James "Jim" Nathan Rector, born 30 Sept 1935 in Ohio, he died 23 Aug 2006 in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Az. and is buried in St Francis Cemetery. (Cremated). in Az. All the sons were born in Ohio, two for sure from Dayton, Montgomery County. I can not find a marriage record on Harvey/Virginia/or Margaret.

Harvey Boston Rector's parents were Nathan Elridge and Ada (Pingleton) Rector. I have a picture of Ada (Pingleton) Rector and her sister Lela Mae (Pingleton) Davidson. I also have Nathan and Ada's headstone and they are buried in Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum in Dayton, Montgomery Co, Ohio. I have a picture of Harvey Boston Rector and his sister Peggy Alice (Rector) Waggoner. And Peggy Alice is also buried in the same cemetery as her parents, she was killed in a car wreck. I have her headstone.I also have a wedding picture of Harvey B. Rector's sister Ada Mae "Bobbie" (Rector) Poeppelmeier. She married Edward Poeppelmeier, he was a Machinist. Harvey, Ada Mae and Peggy Alice were all born in Bell County, Kentucky.

Nathan Elridge parents were John and Mary "Polly" (Siler) Rector and I have the same picture you have of John Rector. The guy on the left of the picture is William "Bill" Sr. Hoskins, his wife Margaret "Maggie" (Rector) Hoskins, her father and Dan's Great grandfather John Rector, the boy in the center is William "Bill Jr. Hoskins, and your Uncle Dave and I think Bill Jr. looks alot like your Dad. The picture was taken in Kentucky, likely Lincon County. I have all the children of John and Mary recorded, with some pictures and headstones. Johns parents were Phillip and Matilda Amanda (Mahaffey) Rector. Phillip was born in North Carolina, Matilda from Georgia. I have Phillips headstone, he was buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery, in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. I also have Phillip's youngest son Thomas Rector's headstone and he is buried same place his father is. John Rectors two older children, Nathan and Maggie Elizabeth married Pingleton's. I have a picture of Ada (Pingleton) Rectors father, James W. Pingleton born in Copper Creek, Rockcastle County, Kentucky and two of his sons. Dudley William Pingleton born 26 July 1892 in Livingston, Rockcastle County, Kentucky. One of his pictures he is wearing his World War 1 uniform, the other picture of him was taken Circa abt. 1925. Dudley is buried in Russiaville Cemetery, Russiaville, Howard County, Indiana. He died of a heart attack in a pool hall just two months after his brother George who died from a sawmill accident. Dudley had taken his brothers place in the sawmill. Johns sixth son Russel Pingleton born 30 May 1894 in Livingston, Rockcastle County, Kentucky, died of Pneumonia and is buried in York Cemetery, in Annville, Jackson County, Kentucky. I have pictures of him.

All day yesturday I worked on your fathers Great grandfather James Pingleton. I have his picture along with his wife Elizabeth "Bettie" (Perkins) Pingleton. I have the headstones for both of them and they are buried in York Cemetery, in Annville, Jackson County, Kentucky. They were married 16 Oct 1879 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. I also have Elizabeth's Death Record. I have all their children and more pictures and headstones and where they are buried.

I've been spending alot of hours in searching and finding facts, and also have been corresponding with an Ancestry.com family member Darryll Pingleton. He has been a great help in my search for your family. But I still have to make sure he is correct and this all takes time. Be patient with me. I think Dan will be very pleased with how his Family Genealogy book turns out.

My father was also born in 1940. Not sure when they were married. My aunt Sandy would know and has been working on the family history at heritage.com (under Kratzer). Her email address is kratz71@q.com and she has very little info on Rector line of our family. My father Dan Rector would also be very interesting in meeting you, another half-brother. His email address is dvr@skybeam.com and we are in Colorado. Our branch of the Rector family is having a reunion in July in Oregon. I have 4 younger sisters.

My mother was Virginia Averyel Holt. They were married in Oct. 1933. However, they were divorced sometime 1938/39 and reunited during the war. This was never discussed much in our family to my knowledge, but Michael was born in 1940 and he is my "half" brother (although we did not think of him that way). Perhaps my father remarried at that time....do you know when?

My maiden name is Deborah Ann Rector. My father is Daniel Edward Rector and my Grandmother is Margaret Gravette (married name, second marriage). My dad is the only child she had with Harvey B Rector and I don't believe they were ever married, she had 7 other children. My aunt and cousin have been doing some research and this is the latest info that they sent:

"Thank you so much for responding back. My husband wrote to you earlier asking for information on the Rector family. I do most of the genealogy in our family, and I've been trying to help my husbands brother Dan with his family. He goes as far as his father Harvey B. Rector. I've been working most of the day in Ancestry and found what you entered into Find a Grave. I snipped James and Elizabeth "Betty" (Perkins)Pingleton and Isa and his family. You mentioned you have picures of John Rector (Nathan's dad). Would so appreciate any pictures you have, any stories of interest would be so helpful. I saw where you wrote about James Pingleton working at the Bond-Foley Sawmill, and his tragic death. Our brother Danny sounds like he comes from an interesting family. His daughter has been searching, but hasn't come up with much. Neither one of them is in Ancestry. Just me, so I'm trying to help them out...so anything you can give me I would so appreciate."

Hi, Sandra, very pleased to meet you! In this email I have included a high resolution of John Rector, father of Nathan Eldridge Rector, Elizabeth 'Liza' Rector Pingleton, Joseph 'Joe' T. Rector, Margaret 'Maggie' Rector, and lastly (to my knowledge) William Elmer Rector. Shown in the photo is John Rector, along with his daughter Margaret 'Maggie' Rector, her husband William 'Bill' Sr. Hoskins, and their son William 'Bill' Jr. Hoskins. I believe this was taken in Kentucky, likely Lincoln County.

John Rector is the husband of Mary 'Polly' Siler Rector, and he is the son of Phillip Rector and Matilda Mahaffey Rector.

John and Mary's Son Nathan E. Rector, along with Ada Pingleton Rector had three children in Bell County, Kentucky: Harvey Boston Rector (b. November 28, 1907 - d. December 02, 1986 in Barberton, Summit County, Ohio) who married Virginia A. Holt Rector and then of course, Margaret Josephine Kratzer. The second child was Ida Mae "Bobbie" Rector who married Edward Poeppelmeier, and thirdly Peggy Alice Rector (b. March 30, 1912 - d. December 03, 1939, buried in Dayton, Ohio), who married Kenneth J. Waggoner in June 1934 at Niagara Falls, NY to my best estimate. I have a photo of Alice and Harvey to send.

Ada Pingleton Rector had an older brother George Lee Pingleton who married Nathan's sister Elizabeth "Liza" Rector (b. April 26, 1885 in Bell County, Kentucky - died of TB on October 31, 1932 in Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana). George Lee Pingleton was the younger brother to Asa Calvin Pingleton - my grandfather. George worked in the Bond-Foley Sawmill in the early part of the 1900's, then moved to Indiana, where he eventually owned his own sawmill, where he was killed by a saw-thrown board - just as his father James died earlier on November 16, 1922, dying himself on August 08, 1945 in Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana. George's descendants (great grandson Lee Robert Pingleton) own a sawmill in Greencastle, IN today. The Bond-Foley Sawmill went out of business in the early 1930's, as a result of the Great Depression.

At one time Harvey Boston Rector was an Author, Playwright, Freelance - as described in Census Records.

I believe Nathan's father was John Jacob Rector, but have no dates of his birth or death. In the late '60s my father, Harvey Boston Rector and I took several trips down to Pineville, KY to research the Rector family. If you are sure my father is your grandfather.....well, that would be quite a surprise! My brothers Mike and Greg are still living in Ohio, my sister Linda passed away in 1991 and had a son named Jeffrey, a grandson. Stephen lives in Arizona, another grandson. Laura lives in Ohio, a granddaughter....who might you be?

Mary Ann is living in Payne County, Oklahoma, in the 1910 census, with her husband's neice and husband, Alvah J. and Julie Ann Whitworth. She is listed as Marry A Lewis, b. 1831.

Mary Ann and Harriet Rector, Howard County, MO

Ann and others: Check out this Mary Ann Rector Lewis on findagrave. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Re...;

I think this is Mary Ann Rector of Howard County, Missouri, that married Charles Lewis. What do you think? I believe she was in either Arkansas or Oklahoma in 1910, but I can't find her, so coming from "Yale, Oklahoma" makes sense. She married Charles Lewis about 1878 (this has 1868). Her mother was Nancy, b. 1804 Kentucky or Tennessee. According to the obituary, at the time of her death, she was living with her brother, John L. Rector, s/o George Washington Lewis and Nancy Kirkpatrick, who was born in 1804, so that's a match. She only had two children, Jesse Caton and Amanda Wallace. In 1900, only one was living. Just having two grandchildren would make sense as well. Marilyn

I received the following email through a local group email and thought it might be of interest to those searching for Rectors of Virginia...the senders email is mdancisin@winegazettes.com

Message bodyHi All!

I was out walking just now, and saw something shiny just a bit over the neighbor’s line (they don’t live there). It was a grave marker with the sunlight bouncing off the smooth parts of the surface:

Mary Rector
1867 – 1933

John Rector
1867 – 1942

It’s just out in the middle of the woods – no discernable plot, all covered in leaves and green briars. Anybody know anything about this? I’m on Battle Mountain Road, about a mile south of 211.

LJL Rector of Turnbull, Virginia

I have a letter in my possession written on 25 Feb 1901 by LJL Rector of Turnbull, Virginia and addressed to his cousin James Lewis Rector (father: Charles Henry Rector, mother: Sarah Ellen Boggs) of New Salisbury, Indiana. I can't quite identify him because I don't have enough information to go on.

Here is what I can glean from the letter:
(1) His initials are LJL.
(2) James Lewis Rector is his cousin. He mentions James Lewis' uncle, James W. N. Rector, as his uncle as well.
(3) He has a brother named William Rector living in Warrenton, Virginia. William, at the time of his writing, had three living children and two dead. LJL mentions that he has one child.

I'm extremely curious to know who this relative of mine was and who his descendants are if he has any because I was so moved by his letter. Towards the end, he writes: "You must give your love to your family and write again as I would like to hear from you at any time so that instead of our relatives growing distant and forgotten that they may be drawn closer together."

My family is one of the New York Rectors. According to the book The Descendants of Adam Rector by Austin Horton, Adam did indeed marry Catherin Denny. One of his children was Nicholas Denny Rector who married Parthenia West. They had 11 children, the 8th of which was my ancestor Jane Ann Rector who married John Melvin Potter in 1844. They had one child, William Fayette Potter in 1848. He died in Sacramento CA in 1852 of Panama Fever in the Gold Rush.

I've been searching for the aforementioned book and find it is pretty scarce. It's not one of the books that has been digitized by Google or others yet.

Information about the Duanesburg Rectors seems to be hard to find too.
Hello

I have a Hattie Rector in my line who was born in Feb 1890 as well (my info says KS, but they are pretty close together). What really got me interested in your query though, was the fact that she was married in Weatherford OK.

In my data, Hattie's mother moved to Weatherford where she died in 1926. I have never been able to figure out why she moved there. I assumed there was family there, but have never been able to figure out who that may have been.

Coincidentally, I lose track of Hattie in my records in 1900 where she just disappears. I figured she either had died or was married under a new name.

I know it's been 7 years since the original post, but please do reply back of you are still looking and or would like to compare notes. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I know all about William Peter, what I want to know is if anyone has any definite proof that George Rector and Mary Riddle were his parents. I also want to know what happened to George REctor. I cannot find him after the 1840 census in N.C.
jeanie

New information gleaned from a WWII draft registration has him listing place of birth in Falls City, Richardson County, Nebraska.

This is the first document with this location listed that I have found. Although he seemed to be notorious for listing Nebrasak, Indiana, and Kansas of places of birth on the various census. :)

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
