Angeline County, TX Red family 1850s

Hello,

A working theory is that Tabitha Red? married into the John W. Perkins family.

John was born 1810 in NC, was in DallasCO,AL in 1830. Years ago I spotted a tree that suggested Tabitha is a daughter of James E. Red of GreeneCo, AL.

John and Tabitha cant be found in 1840 census but in 1850 they are in Union Parish, LA. They move on to AngelinaCo, TX about 1856, enumerated in Angelina in 1860 and in RobertsonCo, TX in 1870.

There are several Red families in Angelina in the 1850s. I find poll tax records for Meshack, Marion, Ancel to name a few. I am guessing it is no coincidence that the Reds and Perkins land in the same county in later years.

Can anyone connect with the 1850s Red family in AngelinaCo? Happy to share what my research has found.
Sue
sodixey@hotmail.com

Re: Red or Redd

This post is very old, but I will try.

My John W. Perkins married a Tabitha. Its a working theory she is/was Tabitha Red/Redd ( have seen the name spelled both ways). Some trees listed her as a daughter of James E. Red of GreeneCo, AL which is where this Red family was living around 1830. John and Tabitha would have married around mid 1830, their first child was born 1837 in AL. He is named William.

John and Tabitha can be found in AngelinaCo, Texas as early as 1856. The fact that my Perkins family lands in the same county as the Reds two decades later leads me to believe they are related. Happy to share what I know.

Sue
sodixey@hotmail.com

Thank you so much for your reply. I am sorry I have been slow in replying but the past few weeks have been extremely busy. My brother and I have been researching the Redd family and since we have not traveled to find records it is nearly impossible to find the info we need. |Rebecca was mother to my Great Grandfather, Hamilton Seymour Wamsley. If there would be pictures or other records available we would greatly appreciate it. The family has one picture of her but that is all. Thank you again
. I will look forward to your response.
Thelma Mills Fleeman daughter of Thelma Ruth Wamsley
Grandaughter of William Jonathan Wamsley
Great Grandaughter of Hamilton Seymour Wamsley.

These names Asalee and Azilee are interesting. I'm descended from Redds of old Barnwell County, South Caroline, and the earliest female I can trace in my line was named "Epsily" (born in the 1790's). There was also a Redd girl born in the mid-1800's in that area named "Apsily," and I believe I saw on a post somewhere that there was also another female Redd named Apsily. I wonder if it's an old family name.

David D Redd and Epsily Redd, South Carolina to Florida

I am looking for information on David D. Redd, b. about 1798 in South Carolina, and his wife Epsily, also born in S.C. They apparently lived in Alabama for a while, then were in Leon County, Florida by 1850. Their children were Isaac Alderman Redd, David Duncan Redd, Marie C Redd, and Mary J Redd (married Grief H Johnson). I am wondering if David was descended from Job Red of Barnwell, SC, and also which family Epsily came from. David Redd appears in no census records prior to 1850, that I can find. I'd love to connect with anyone else researching this Redd family.

Redd's of Caroline County Va

I am researching surname Redd of Caroline County Va. My paternal Great-Great Grandfather was Wellington Albert Redd born about 1834 in Caroline County, he married a Frances Byrd (Bird) about 1861. At least two of their children John Redd and William Henry Redd were born in Caroline County b.1856-1861. Wellington and Frances migrated to Prince Georges County MD, Bladensburg, MD sometime between 1861 and 1870, Would love to make a connection with other Afro American (Mulatto) Redd's of Carolina County. I can document them after 1870 but nothing on their history in Caroline County. I only have death and marriage records that indicate they were born in Caroline county Va. Thanks Vie Sharps Jones

January 1873, Polk Co Iowa; d. 1935, Polk Co Iowa.

*******************************************

NEED PROOF:
1)that the Mrs Mary Redd who married John Fitzjarrell/Fitzgerald in 1837 is the widow of Berry Redd. Berry Redd WAS the only Redd listed in the 1830 Richmond Co census and in the 1833-1834 tax digests.
2)that the above named Redd children ARE the children of Berry Redd & Mary "Polly" Mason

CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE
1)The 1830 Richmond Co GA census shows that Berry & Mary Redd had three daughters under the age of 10. Lauretta Redd (b.1822) & Amelia Redd (b.1828) claimed "born GA, parents born South Carolina" and they eventually moved back to and died in Richmond Co GA.
2)Mary Mason & 2nd husband John Fitzgerald were listed in the 1850 Warren Co GA census. Their six month old son John Henry Fitzgerald was christened in Feb 1843 at the Catholic Church near Sharon, Taliaferro GA GA.
3)In the 1850 census, Lauretta Redd Smith & Harriett Redd Jones are living six houses apart, listed near Sharon, Taliaferro Co GA
4)Although Amelia Redd's marriage is recorded in Greene Co GA; the actual marriage was done by a priest at the Catholic Church near Sharon, Taliaferro Co GA
5)Amelia Redd Bischoff & Lauretta Redd Smith Rich are buried in the same plot of Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta GA.
6)William Augustus Redd & Amelia Redd Bischoff had sons with the unusual name Isidore
7)Cornelius A Redd was murdered in 1868; Harriett Redd Jones had son Cornelius Wayne Jones (1874) & William Augustus Redd had son Cornelius Redd (b.1872)
8)Augustus Redd (14) was listed in the 1850 Richmond Co GA census with Mary Redd, age 70 (possibly his grandmother) & directly next door to Green B Redd (b.1809). Green B Redd died in 1853 Richmond Co Ga, leaving a will in which he mentions nephew Cornelius Redd.
9)Records for Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, Ga show that Cornelius A Redd (1832-1868) was "born Augusta GA"; Berry & Mary Redd were the only Redd family living in Richmond Co in 1832.

Thomas Redd and John Rudd in VA-1700s

Has anyone ever proven or disproven (by DNA testing or other reasonable means) if the Thomas Redd who married a Miss Farguson was related to the John Rudd who married Avis Whitaker? Please be aware that DNA testing, combined with some new/additional research, shows that the brothers George Brown and Alexander Brown, who each married a Miss Rudd (and who had a brother who was named Daniel Brown, with all three men being sons of "Old" William Brown who died in Henrico Co., VA in the 1730s), were NOT related to the Daniel Brown who married Elizabeth Coleman (and whose daughter married a Samuel Farguson....who was a brother of Thomas Redd's wife). Despite that, however, it would appear that there was still a "common link" between the Farguson family and both Thomas Redd and John Rudd (per another researcher, a Mr. Farguson witnessed the Will of John Rudd, as I recall). Any/all information on the above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Redd/Rudd Surname; JOSEPH REDD of SC

The Daniel Brown who was a son of "Old William Brown" of Henrico Co., VA....and who was a brother of a George Brown and Alexander Brown (who each married a Miss Rudd)....was a member of DNA "Group 69" at the Brown Genealogy Society DNA testing project. The Daniel Brown who married Elizabeth Coleman was a member of the unrelated DNA "Group 10." Despite this, the "common connection" between the Farguson family and both Thomas Redd and John Rudd may still support the conclusion that the Redd and Rudd families were "one and the same." DNA testing, however, would be the best way to prove or disprove it, of course.

I have suspected for some time now that there was a connection of some sort between the "Group 10" Browns and the "Group 69" Browns in VA....and maybe the "common connections" to the Rudd/Redd family is one of the reasons that these two unrelated Brown families seemed to "hang-out" together in the 1700s. If anyone has PROOF that Thomas Redd was related to John Rudd....please let me know. Thanks!

There is a William Redd, he was born in Nansemond County, Virginia. Was a private in the Revolutionary War. Had many children. One was named Siglee or Sigley depending on who spelled it. They lived in the Stump Sound area of Onslow County. He married a woman by the name of Seale in 1780. there is some speculation that his father's name may have been W. Whitaker Redd also from Va. Which could have been William Whitaker Redd. and that he was named after his father too a William. It can get so darn confusing. I'm still trying to sort this one out. Most of Nansemond County records were destroyed so it's hard to find actual records.

The names in your post are the closest that I've come to anything. The mother is said to be an Elizabeth Redd, the children were seperated, This was in new York. The last name can either be Redd or Boon(e). There is a son David born in 1950. The person Elizabeth is thought to have been with is Henry Boon(e). If you can think of anything please let me know.

Would like to know if the tombstone in the Redd Family Cemetery, Midway, Mo. with the name Irene on it is for Irene Redd Glass the daughter of James Waller Redd. James Waller Redd is buried in this cemetery so thought it might be his daughter as other family is buried here.

I haven't learned much about deeds, wills, and such and how to go about researching them. I wish there was someone around here that could teach me how to look that info up and how it worked and how to research it at the court house. Better yet, I wish I could have a job just doing that kind of research at the Tate, Desoto, Lafayette and Carroll county courthouses and be paid for it.
