Thanks for the information. I received information from the town of Tusten that said Caroline Redden died in 1896. I also found out that she had another child after Charles Redden (West) and that is when she died.

Reddens of Montgomery County, Maryland

My maternal grandfather was Herbert Leroy Redden, born around 1901 and died in 1928. His father was William Thomas Redden of Cropley (near Potomac) Md who was born about 1845 and died in July 1904. William Thomas Redden was a member of the Knights of Pythias. If either of these names of the area ring any bells out there I'd appreciate any more info - the former very poor area of Cropley MD was totally demolished sometime after WW2 and replaced with Great Falls Park and expensive develpment along MacArthur Blvd.

I'm hoping someone from the original post is still around. Frank Redden was married to Caroline Hendrickson, daughter of Asa and Abigail Hendrickson. Asa's parents where John and Anna Hendrickson, Asa's older sister was Mary Hendrickson. Mary married James David Hulse, my great great grandfather. Caroline and Frank had a son, Charles (1893), who married a Selma. Caroline died in 1895. I have another person interested in the Reddens. I didn't find much else.

Lairy had a brother George C. Redden who was my Great great Grandfather. Lairy lived in Navarro (sp) county Texas. George lived in Rusk County. He was born in Tennessee/Kentucky in 1830. He married Nancy m. Autry. In 1900, your grandfather's (Lairy's) family became ill so several family members went to Navarro from Rusk to help him. Nancy and other contracted the fever and died there. Their daughter, Susan Cornelia Redden was my Great Grandmother. She lived in Jacksonville, Rusk, Texas and is buried in Old Jacksonville, Texas. I have a great picture of her. Contact me at 903-825-7101. I will be posting my tree next week (I hope!)

Hi-
I don't know that family, but I have a gut level question: How sure are you that her parents were born in KY? I suggest that it's more probable that they were born in MD or the future KY part of VA in that time frame. That's where the majority of Reddens that I know of were. If you've looked only in KY records you may have missed the family is all I'm suggesting.

My Harvey (aka Henry) was born in 1807 in KY and I'm searching for which JOHN Redden was his father. Sigh.

Yours,
Charlotte Redden

Oh my Brenda, it has been 2 yrs since you posted. I haven't checked these boards for quite some time, so hoping this gets to you.
I'm hoping you will be able to help in someway or the other. I am not very familiar with many names of the offspring from names I have posted except for my immediate line from John and Rachel's son Henry Clay Redden. If you believe we have a family or some type of a connection, I would greatly appreciate anything you think may be helpful. I have been up against this brick wall for so long now.
Cousins and I have not been able to get past John Lewis Redden. We haven't been able to find who his parents were. However...we do know John's wife Rachel's mother's name was Nancy and believe she may have arrived in Missouri possibly a widow with children in tow. Rachel had a sister name Mary, and I don't remember right off the bat who she married. Will have to pull all my research out again to refresh.
At any rate...I am so hoping you get this and you can reply as soon as your able.
Thanks again for anything you can send my way :)

Sioux-Z

There's very little on my Grandfather's biological family. I know he was one of 7 children born to Frank and Caroline (Hendricksen) Redding or Redden. His mother died after giving birth to the 7th child. The 4 youngest including my grandfather were adopted out. The 3 older ones went to broading houses or homes to work as servants. I believe their names were Harry, Alice, and Aced. I have not been able to find anyone from Frank Redding or Redden's family.

Feb 1852 in Ireland, Patrick, b. abt 1856 in Illinois, Maria (also called May or Mary) b. Feb 1858 in Illinois and Catherine "Kate", b. abt 1862 in Illinois.
Came to the US abt 1852 and settled in Jackson County, Illinois then moved to New Burnside, Johnson, Illinois.
I don't have an Anna in this family though.

Well, I'm still perplexed about the nicholas/exekiel/hugh thing (though I'm leaning towards Hugh, though I have heard "Nicholas Hugh" as well). I've NOT found any records to show Ezekiel at all anywhere. However, I can answer your Rebecca question...apparently at the time, it was common to give a child the name of the stepfather even without the benefit of formal adoption...Hardnell is her stepfather's name...her biological father's name is Maxson...they are the same person...Hugh married Sarah Harding after Rebecca's death (or right at as she died between 12/29/1707 and 2/25/1707 or 1708)....Good Luck!

Our family have roots in the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. By connecting to various Irish and English sources, my cousin has printed a book about the origins of the name Reddin, Redden, Rudin, and many other derivatives. There isn't a direct connection but the thinking is that we emigrated to the east coast of Canada during a potato fammon.

Gregg Reddin
Prince Edward Island, Canada
