Yes. It took me a while to find the (4) siblings! Look in the 1910 Worth Couty records. They were all born in Sylvester, Georgia. Not Tifton as everyone states. Tifton was not established as a TOWN. When the Tift family came to the area, then it was called Tifton. But they were all born before the Tift family even arrived. They bounce around a little and then there were changes to the county names ad County lines. I had the pleasure of watching my Aunt Mae turn 100 years old.

Wow this message was opened 5 years ago...hope there is still some interest in it. I have done some research on the Roberts side and have the lineage traced to Wiley Louis Roberts through all the Census. Does anyone have information on the parents of Wiley? It is a bit difficult considering several of the census state he could not read or write (hence his name having several different spellings) and the abundance of farm house weddings...

I have a copy of David Reddick's will. It names his wife as Ann. My problem with him being the son of Mills and Mary Speight Reddick is the fact that Mary's will and she names a different wife for her son David; I believe she names her as Jane. I am suspicious that there are two David Reddicks. I would be happy to send you a copy of his will.

Jeannine

Hi Monica,

Strange story, for sure. My husband's mom, Helen Celeste Bishop, was adopted by Alva and Myrtle Bishop. Myrtle told Tacitus, my husband, that James Duncan Reddicks was his mom's brother, therefore his uncle. Through the years Tacitus saw James frequently. Mrs. J. D. Reddicks is listed in his baby book as one who gave a gift when he was born. In later years Tacitus also knew their son, Jimmie Reddicks. He remembers times when the two of them listened to the radio together. I believe from looking at your tree that "Little Jimmie" as he was known to Tacitus, was your father. Tacitus also remembers vividly the day of the explosion when James was killed.

Sound interesting? I will go ahead and request the Social Security application, although we may find out that it does not list parents.

Kathy Bond

Good Morning!
I haven't requested the Social Security application-not even sure how to. This is so exciting! Any guidance, suggestions, direction you can give me is more than welcome and appreciated. Both of my parents were only children, and I was the only child they had together, so to find living relatives is very important to me! How did you did you determine that James and Helen were brother and sister?
Eagerly awaiting your reply!
Monica

Good Morning,

James Duncan Reddicks was my husband's uncle, of this much we are sure. Jame's sister was Helen Celeste Bishop, adopted by Alva and Myrtle Bishop at some point before 1920. She was born in about 1915 and married Edward Leroy Bond sometime before 1933. My husband, Tacitus Bond, knew his mother was adopted so we have also hit a brick wall on her parents. Did you request the Social Security application for James? I was about to do that, but wondered if the section for parents would just be the same as you have in your tree, "unknown". Look forward to your reply.

James Duncan Reddicks

My paternal grandfather was James Duncan Reddicks. He was one of the firemen aboard the ship, the GrandCamp, that blew up at the dock in Texas City in 1947. I found a James Reddicks on the 1920 census report that had him listed as an "inmate" in the orphanage of Ward 4, Harris County, Tx. There is a younger child, a Bob E Reddicks, listed with him. I'm hitting a brick wall now--family members who are now deceased say he was Native American, or at least half, but I feel he could have even been half black. Any suggestions?

Naming conventions for Reddick family in NC

Greetings:

My ancestor is Reddick Aycock, and I've hit a brick wall with his background. He was born in 1777/1778 in NC. I've heard where Reddick family females in NC, upon getting married, name one of their sons Reddick to maintain the family name. This would explain the rather unusual first name of Reddick Aycock. My theory is that Reddick Aycock's mother had the last name Reddick. Can anyone verify this family tradition? Thanks!

My copy is very old, but in Shirley Reddick's book on the family, on page 28 she has an abstract of David Riddick's will cited as being from Martin County, North Carolina, Will Book 1, pages 423/424, dated 10 May 1804. She also cites "Some Colonial and Revolutionary Families of North Carolina," by Marilu Burch Smallwood. I'm pretty sure the will abstract comes from the book. Smallwood says there was no date of probate "...All 'Administrations of Estates' in Martin Co., N. C. were burned."

On page 20 of Shirley Reddick's book, she has an abstract of Mills Riddick's will, dated 5 Feb 1777, probated 26 May 1777, Perquimans County Book 7V213. I think this is another citation from Smallwood's book.

Smallwood also cites James Hathaway's "North Carolina Historical and Genealogical Register.

Both volumes by Smallwood and Hathaway will be available at many genealogical libraries.

Hi :) I'm related through Humphery Reddick / Riddick to David (will dated 1804 have heard it wasn't probated till 1811).. I am "certain" he is the son of Mills II.. and have heard he is specifically named in a Will from Perquimans NC dated 1777 but cannot find it anywhere and live a loooonnng way from NC.. I have heard of books that it may be in, but never a specific book.. and find it hard to believe that's the only magic place to find the will... any ideas? Also if you have any other information you would share, I would appreciate it.. my line goes from NC, TN, AR.. Myrtle Mae - James T - Humphery 1848 - Willis 1820 - Humphery 1797 - David d 1804 (as it's commonly noted).. Thanks :)
