I wish I knew about your cousin, Lee, but I don't. Here's all I know about the Reddish (maybe Roddis) family. Burdett (born ~1765 England) was in Stafford Co., VA, by 1785. I don't know his wife's name. He was the father of 1) Mary (1793 VA - 1864 IL) who married Tandy Simms and 2) Lucy who married Joel Anderson. He may also have fathered Lettice who married Wm Skinner in 1839 VA and Leanna who married George Clark in 1798. Burdett is a great mystery. Judy Belle

I had a wonderful reply to the message I left which leads me to believe that Drewery Reddish and Jane Carter had only 6 children and that Paul and John were nephews as indicated by Pioneers of Wiregrass GA, I like many others have changed my opinion on these two more than once. However, this researcher has studied them more than I and has support for the nephew connection. That would make their children Mary Jane Reddish, Nancy Reddish, Isham Roy Reddish (my great great grandfather)Drewery Reddish, Jr. George,, and Thomas David. I hope to hear from anyone else with Reddish information or who need information I may have. safrye@windstream.net

Detail:

Sarah/Sallie Reddish
b 26 Jan 1802 , Rockbridge, VA
d 29 Oct 1862 , Anderson, KY
(dates from tombstone in Pigeon Fork Baptist Church cemetery, Anderson, KY)

Children:
Henry Addison Martin, b 1830, Anderson, KY
Elizabeth A Martin, b 1831, Anderson, KY (died in 1850) John Walker Martin, b 1834, Anderson, KY (my 2g grandfather)
Mary Catherine Martin, b 1835, Anderson, KY

Presumed sister:
Elizabeth G Reddish, 10 Apr 1805, , VA - 10 Mar 1863, Anderson, KY

Elizabeth married Austin P Martin 8 Apr 1840, Shelby, KY; in 1850 they were living next to John R and Sarah Redding Martin in Anderson County. Austin died before 1860, and in 1860 census Elizabeth and son Reuben are living with John R and Sarah. Presumption is that John and Austin were brothers and that Elizabeth and Sarah were sisters.

Mary's father was indeed Silas Reddish, but NOT Silas D Reddish (1805-1859) son of James H Reddish. Silas D would have been only 12 years old in 1817 when the marriage to Sarah Sally Elliston took place. Many web references make this error.

Rather Mary Frances Reddish (1827-1880) was daughter of Silas Reddish (1776-1847), son of Joel Reddish and brother of James H.

Silas was a very popular name for the Reddish family; I have at least five in my tree. It's easy to get confused.

Tom Cook

All I have is the document from 1776. The James Ritchie Company from Glasgow mentioned in the document appears to be a tobacco merchant in Scotland. There is a reference I found on the web as follows: ·	"Papers in respect of lawsuit, James Ritchie of Busby, merchant in Glasgow, against Alexander Houston & Co.**, [concerning the quality of Virginian and West Indian tobacco, 1779] " I wonder whether Joel and Joseph Reddish were tobacco farmers or merchants in Virginia. Apparently Glasgow was a major importer of Virginia tobacco.
George

Joel Reddish was born 22 February 1747 in Stafford County Virginia. His will was made in 1814 in Franklin Co., Kentucky, naming his children. If you wish to read more about this, I found this information at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/REDDISH/2003-04/1051230...

I had him as dying in 1826 in Shelby County Kentucky which came from the Family Data Collection in Provo, Utah.

I had some notes I copied from Teresa Pogue on rootsweb.com but I can't find the actual webpage anymore. Here is what I had copied appended at the end of my post. She gives some sources. The Joel Reddish she speaks of in 1837 in MO may be another Joel Reddish as my Joel would have been 90 at that point and it is after the date of death of my other source. Hopefully some of the sources she listed will be of use to you. Are you Reddish descendant or just a collector of historical papers? Do you wish to sell the document?
Julia

The Virginia State Library has the records on Staffordians who performed public service and filed a public

service claim.
From information I have collected and some sent to me, Drewery Reddish is father to David who had a son George W. married to Elizabeth McGauly. Their one son's name was Odel (Adel?) who is my son-in-law's father. I would appreciate any help concerning Odel's first marriage and children. He is listed on the 1930 Georgia Census but moved on to Florida. Odel served many years in the Merchant Marines. He died when my son-in-law was under the age of 2.

You are quite right that Fielding D. Reddish and Frances Cavey REddish were siblings. I had overlooked that info in my haste to answer your earlier post.

As for the children of Fielding D. Reddish and Jane Dillinger, Fannie was born in 1854 in Kentuckyand died in 1924 in Jeffersonville, Indiana and Mary was born about 1858. I have I did not have information about a daughter Kate. Do you have a birthdate for her? There was a Kate living in their household who was not their child. I quote from the narrative I wrote for a recent family reunion.

To fill in the story of Fannie as a young girl we reach back in time to the 1860 census when she is an 8 year old girl living with her father Fielding D. Reddish, a tailor in Frankfort, Kentucky who was born about 1814 in Virginia.Fannie’s mother’s name was Jane S. Dillinger born about 1816 and her parents were both born in Virginia. Fielding Reddish is listed in the 1860 census as 46 and Jane as 42. Daughter Mary is 4. Jane’s sister Kate E. Dillinger, age 20 is living with them as well. There is a record of the marriage of Fielding Reddish and Jane S. Dillinger on 24 March 1844 in Franklin County, Kentucky. In the 1850 census, before Fannie’s birth, we find Fielding Reddish, age 36, merchant, and his wife Jane, age 33. Also living with them at that time are her sister, Catherine Dillinger and his brother Marshall Reddish age 20.

Fannie Reddish seems to have had several marriages. Then I read on the 1870 census for the household of Fannie’s parents that Fannie is 18 and her last name is now Leonard and there is a 25 year old stonemason living there called Nicholas Leonard born in France. There is a column that says “if married in that past year state which month” and it says May for both Nicholas and Fannie. I checked the 1880 census but there are several hundred choices to pick from and the right Leonard is not coming to me. I would love to know the names of their children, if any. Fannie later married my great-grandfather William S. Morrison(born February 1869 in Kentucky nd died 1926 in Jeffersoville, Indiana) in about 1887 and they had three sons, Bradley Morrison born July 1888, Fielding Decatur Morrison born 17 August 1890 (my grandfather) and De Graffur Morrison called Grey born August 1895. We have a family photograph and stories about a half sister Kate who was Fannie's daughter by an earlier marrage but I do not know if it was from the marriage with Nicholas Leonard or if there was yet another marriage as Fannie was in her 30's when she married my grandfather. Her husband's name may have been Jim McPherson but I cannot find any documentation about them.

Another interesting tidbit abut Frances Cavey Reddish is that her mother Lucy Lee Templeman's parents seem to be a James Templeton (1750 – 1814) and Cavey Bridwell (1768 – 1845) both of Stafford Virginia. So I guess that is where the Cavey comes from.

As far as Joel Reddish's wife, I noted someone had posted his wife's name as Sarah but I did not document the source and I never feel good about it if there is no last name, so I guess we are still in the dark there.

Always fun corresponding with distant cousins. Best to you in your research.

Thank you for your reply to my earlier post. Soon after my original inquiry, I did find that that Fielding D. Reddish was actually the brother of Frances Cavey Reddish. In other words, Joesph E. Reddish and Lucy Lee Templeman had 5 children (that I know of) Fielding D. Reddish, Emily Eliza Reddish, John Henry Reddish, Frances Cavey Reddish, and James Reddish. Do you have the name of Joel's wife by chance? Also, Fielding and Jane had 3 children that I have listed...Kate E. Reddish, Fannie E. Reddish, and Mary E. Reddish. Do you have any other info on them as well? I have Fannie E. Reddish m. to an unk. Morrison, and children unk. Fannie E. Reddish would be a removed cousin of mine if this is correct. Thank you.

I don't believe your Frances Cavey Reddish is the daughter of Fielding D. Reddish. Fielding D. Reddish was born 1814 in Vrginia which would make him a bit young to be the father of your Frances born in 1828. He married Jane S. Dillinger on 24 March 1844 and my great grandmother Fannie E. Reddish born in 1854 was their daughter.

I believe that Fielding D. Reddish was the son of Joseph Reddish Birth: 14 October 1787
Stafford, Virginia
Death: 18 February 1873
Franklin, Kentucky, USA
and Lucy Lee Templeman
Birth: 17 Apr 1793
Death: 1 Dec 1845
Marriage: 05 November 1811 in Stafford, Virginia

and I believe that Joseph Reddish was the son of Joel Reddish
Birth: 22 February 1747
Stafford, VA
Death: 1826
Shelby, KY

It sure can get confusing with everybody using the same first names over the generations, but I just wanted to offer this information in case it is of help. I would also be happy to hear anyone's thoughts agreeing or disagreeing with the information I have posted.
Please help me find descendants of David's daughter, Harriett Jane Myers who married Archibald Brant and had several children. They married in Dallas, Texas, and ranched in Jacksboro, Jack County, Texas. Lat in life they lived in Nara Visa, Quay County, New Mexico, but both are buried in Jacksboro, Texas. David's Wife, Leticia, is buried in Wizard Wells Cemetery not far from Jacksboro. I am a descendant of David Myers through Mary Myers Nix and would appreciate sharing with any or all others from this family. THanks.
