Norway? That's interesting. I'm a Ree from Oklahoma and was told a couple of years ago that Ree was originally French, then English, then Scottish, then Irish. Let me know more about this Norwegian background.

Hi Darlene and Krriordan. My name is Sean Hale. I'm related to the both of you then. My grandma on my Mom's side was Hazel Ree and her parents were Jennie and Martin Ree. We've traveled to Zumbrota to visit a few of the relatives when I was a kid. I think I've met you before at family get-togethers Darlene. I just stumbled on this post while doing some research on my own. I'm working over in England for the next few months and plan on traveling to Norway for a bit. Maybe even go to the towns where my relatives came from now that I learned the exact town. I thought they were actually from Bergen but now I know the specific town. Then I'm going to check on relatives in Ireland on my Dad's side. I learned a lot of useful info from this post.

Hi Darlene! I can't believe that I have found someone looking for the same names as I am. My grandmother was Christine Nodtvedt (sometimes listed as Bolstad) and Ole Ree. Jennie was my grandmother's sister and Martin was my grandfather's brother. I believe that Christine came over at age 18 about 1903. A third sister, Margaret Skar, had also emigrated. Jennie and Martin left Zumbrota to help Margaret when she was widowed in about 1925. She lived in Edgerton Wisconsin. I am trying to find when they left Norway. There was another sister, Oline, in Norway and about 2 or 3 brothers. Looking for their descendents too. I have been told that Nodtvedt was the name of the farm they all lived on and it was in Bolstad Norway which is not far from Bergen. The Ree family was from Trondheim, I believe, and cam to Zumbrota in 1870-1872. They took 3 different surnames, Ree, Reberg and Simonson. Peter Simonson and his father built a home near Zumbrota and then brought the family over. Martin and Ole's mother was Beret Marta Ree and she married Johan B. Ree who came from Norway at a later date. I believe that they knew each other in Norway. Sivert took the name Ree and the youngest, Ole, took the name Reberg. They are all buried at Land's Church cemetary in Zumbrota. Riborg Reberg was their mother and a sister Karen is buried there also who did not live very long after they arrived in Minnesota. I am in Idaho and find it difficult to research in MN. Where are you?

Hi Sharon, I don't know if there is a connection or not. What I do know is my Grandmother, Jennie Nod-Vedt, came to Minn. from Bergen Norway in 1912, with her sister. Where she and her sister met and Married Ree brothers, one was Martin, the other I do not know, Martin was my Grandfather. They were married in 1915. in Zumbrota. I know my grandfather always showed me a picture of his sister, which he always said I looked like. But I can not for the life of me remember her name. My mother died 3 years ago, and I used to get alot of my info from her. I know that my Grandmothers sister Christine, lived in Red wing Minn, and she was a Ree by marriage. I have a cousin who does alot of the searching so I can check with her, and see when my Grandfather came to Minn., and his fathers name, ect...
I will let you know.
Darlene

Norwegian Rees in Minnesota

I am interested in sharing information with anyone researching the Joab/Elizabeth Seibert Ree line. Joab (or Joseph) and Elizabeth came from Norway (Stavanger I believe) in 1888 with other members of the Seibert family. They had 7 children, George, John, Lizzie, Martha, Arthur Stephen, Minnie Isabelle, and W. Edward Joab. The family lived in Kanaranzi Twp, Rock Cty, MN until 1900, after the deaths of Joab and Lizzie in an epidemic in 1897, when Elizabeth moved with her remaining children to Aitkin Co., MN to live with her brother Peter Christ Seibert. Grandma said that they went for a short time to New Mexico to escape the epidemic, possibly with another of Elizabeth's brothers, Edward Seibert.
Minnie, Martha, and John maintained connections in Aitkin Cty for the rest of their lives, and Ed died young. I would especially love to hear from anyone related to George or Arthur.

I don't know of any Ree relations for the generation that came from Norway. My great-grandfather was Joab Ree. He came from the Ree farm near Stavanger. His patrynimic (sp?) was Oleson. In the Norwegian Census he was listed as a "Ward of the State". I would love to know if he had relations in Norway - or if he was an orphan. He married Elizabeth Svensdatter (her family lived on the Serigstad farm and took the name Seibert in America). Do you think that there is a connection?

Marvin was born in 1891 so I'm thinkin they must have emigrated somewhere around 1910? is this in any connection to you?
