Just a follow-up, regarding my earlier post. Harriet Reed, daughter of Hiram Sherwood Reed and Martha Stephenson did indeed die in 1921. Below, I've posted an excerpt from the email I received from the Breen township sexton, regarding which Robinsons are buried there:

"Harriet [Robinson] Jones died in 1921 at the age of 89 of old age. She is buried in lot 1 of block 32 in the Breen township Cemetery."

Sometime after the 1880 census (where she appeared with her father and two children - one of them my g-grandfather, Arthur, in New York state), Harriet moved to Spalding township, Menominee County, Michigan. The confirmation of Harriet's lineage is contained in the Dickinson county register entry for her marriage to Charles Austin Jones (of Maine), in 1891 - which lists Harriet's parents as Hiram Reed and Martha Stephenson. Also, Harriet's son Arthur named a child Roy Lovett Robinson; a family history produced for the Robinson family reunion held at the old Robinson farm in 1985 states Roy's middle name was in honor of an "unknown Reed/Read ancestor". The ancestor is presumably Loved Reed - the name of both Hiram's father, and grandfather.

Through oral family history I was told that we came from John C. Calhoun's plantation. I was told through my aunt that we descend from Sandy REED who was from the continent of Africa, and who was from John C. Calhoun's plantation. I have W.J. Megginson's book where he verifies this to be true - Sandy Reed being a slave of John C. Calhoun. I would like to know if the REED's you mention are connected to my REED's/REID's? I also descend from Simon and Lucretia (Colhoun) Manager - their daughter was JANE who married my Alfred REED/REID. I was told Simon was the son of John Ewing Colhoun, Sr. first-cousin and father-in-law of John C. Calhoun. Do you have more information? If so, I would love some feedback. Thank you. -MT Webb

The only information that I have and recieved, was from Paul Kankula's site. He had information on my great grandfather's Church which he established in 1887 - Canaan Baptist Church, in Seneca, South Carolina. I dont know who this guy was but he was a lawyer named Mr. REED and he donated land to the church. I do know that he was from Walhalla, South Carolina. Could it be J.P. Reed? or is it his son or a relative? But whats interesting is that I am a descendant of an Alfred Reed/Reid and his daughter Leah Reid; who married Rev. W. M. Turner, Sr. Im wondering with the SAME NAMES could their be a family connection. I have read W.J. Megginson's book and I've been wondering if their is any family connection to those - REED's - or not. Please give me more feedback. Thank you. -Michael Turner Webb

click on Paul Kankula's link: http://rootsweb.ancestry.com/~scoconee/cemetery-txt/c133.txt

Alfred Butler Reid is my great grandfather on my mother's side - and Leah Reid is is wife. My great-grandmother though is Polly Butler-Reid, as Alfred maintained two families. Their ancestors come off the Fort Hill Planation - owned by John C. Calhoun in Clemson, South Carolina. Alfred's descendants are vast because he maintained two families - one with his wife Leah (I believe 12 children) and one with his mistress - Polly, (I believe 10 children), one of which was my grandfather, Robert E. Reid. Alfred's mother is Easter Reid - who supposedly had Butler by a Lawyer Reid - or so it has been passed down through the generations. There is a picture of Alfred Butler Reid in my sister's tree (Williams/Reid) and there is also a picture of JP Reed on the Web. When comparing these two men - in my opinion, it is most unlikely that JP Reed is Butler Reid's father. Please refer to a book written by Megginson, it is loaded with information regarding the occupants of the "Golden Corner", or Clemson, South Carolina. If you are truly a descendant of Butler Reid - in his book is where you will find a vast number of your relatives. Please keep in touch and let me know what you find.

Good to hear from you. Have you read the book about Ada published by the local newspaper in the 1950s? It really gives you a feel for the history of the town. I use to visit in the Summers in the 1950s and 1960s as a child growing up. I have wanted to find out more about Jeff Reed's family - siblings names. I have his father as James S. Reed. He was injured at Vicksburg during the Civil War and after several moves (Jeff was born in Alto, LA) they came to the Dallas area. My daughter got a copy of the land deed from the 1870s when they sold their land and moved closer to the boarder. Maybe we can compare family stories and clues.

Scott,

My mother worked for the Reeds as a young woman from Windom, MN in the 20's or 30's. Her name was Esther Gustafson.
I will never forget the beautiful log home and lake, but have no idea about it's exact location on the lake chain. We visited them at their summer home in Three Lakes, WI when I was a child in the late 40's or early 50's. I loved their butterscotch and root-beer candies.
I have some old pictures taken at the lake and home and of their Chris Craft Boat.
I think there were some pictures of the family in my mother's picture scrapbook collection and a picture of a William Reed.

I am looking for upline on Perry Reed, born about 1833 in Illinois. He had a son, Anthony T. Reed, in 1856. He had a daughter, Isabelle Jeanette, in 1898. She's my grandmother, so I've got the downline. But does anyone have this Perry Reed, father to Anthony (who usually went by AT and died in Pratt, KS, in his daughter's home), or anthing before? I've seen a Perry Reed who was a grocer in Illinois, but I'm not sure it's MY Perry Reed. Anyone have anything more definitive? Thanks!

~Cynthia
