Regalado in California

I am Leticia Brosnan (married name). My maiden is Leticia Regalado born in 69. My father had two daughters in Guadalajara, in the forties. Their names are Margarita Regalado and Leticia Regalado. I never met them, but they are approximately my mother's age, in their sixties. My father had a relationship with a woman named Emma in Tijuana, they never had children together, but they adopted a son who they named Mario Regalado. My father came to the United States in 1952. He settled in Los Angeles, CA. He married my mother Isabel Regalado (20 years his junior) in 1965 and had four daughters: Maribel, Julie, Anna and me (Leticia). In 1965 my father had another son with a woman he knew prior to knowing my mother (also in Los Angeles). I believe her name was Rosalina and they had a son named David Regalado whom I believe was also born in 1965, like my oldest sister. I am searching for David Regalado who may be approximately 45 years of age and raised in the Los Angeles area. I would love to meet David. I was recently driving in the Los Angeles area, behind a man in his forties that had a striking resemblance to my father. My father Felipe Regalado II died in May 1995. His death was sudden due to cardiogenic shock. Since the fifties, my father lived in Los Angeles, CA. His older brother Alberto settled in Hollywood, CA. To my knowledge my uncle Alberto, who I knew since childhood, never had children.

My grandfather was Felipe Regalado born in 1886. Per my father's birth certificate, he originated from Tecuitatlan, Mexico. He and my grandmother, Julia Guzman had my father Felipe Regalado II on 12/17/1921 in Autlan De Navarro, Jalisco Mexico (bordering Guadalajara). Per my father's birth certificate, my father was eighth in birth order. However, I was only aware that my father had five siblings; Fernando Regalado, David Regalado, Cristina Regalado, Alberto Regalado and Esperanza Regalado. To my knowledge my aunt Cristina Regalado married a professor in Guadalajara, but they never had children. My aunt Esperanza Regalado also married and had one son named Nicolas (last name unknown). My father's two oldest brothers died many years prior to my birth. Per my father, they never had children either. They lived in Gudalajara and worked as bakers. My uncle Alberto and my father worked as shoe makers for all of their working lives.

My grandfather's parents/my paternal great grandparents were Martin Regalado and Petra Sandoval. My father once told me that his father's family came from Spain. Not many details was to whether my grandfather or his father were born in Spain. Unfortunately my father passed away when I was 24 years of age and I did not get much history from my father prior to his death. The facts that I am sharing come from my father's birth certificate which name his parents and grandparents. I would like to know if there is a Regalado out there with a similar history from the same region in Mexico. I may take a trip to Guadalajara to search for my grandfather's birth record for more info. All I do know is that the surname originates from Salamanca in Spain.
Hi i saw the thread and i'm very much interested also with the clan. My father told me that Florenz Regalado was the second cousin of my grandfather. He used to visit there many years ago. He also mentioned a name "Felix Regalado" whom he said was our relative. I am from Iloilo, birthplace of Justice Florenz.. Specifically, i grew up in mandurriao, iloilo. If any of our relatives here would like to link or complete the clan please do so. Thanks

I have been able to trace the Regalado Family back a few more generations using Family Search. According to the 1930 census they lived in Los Robles, Purifcacion, Jalisco. I have found baptismal and marriage records from Purificacion and Cuautitlan for our family. Do you know your grandfather's (Jose Trinidad) birthdate, so I might find him in the records?

Unfortunately, I do not have any photos of the Regalado family. My Dad came to the US in the early 1950's for the Bracero program. I beleive he was the oldest son in the family. He mentioned his parents and siblings, but I do not know much about them. There was talk about the family owning a cattle business? I wish I knew more about our family and had asked my Dad more questions while he was alive. Are there relatives still living in the hometown in Jalisco?

I've been told by several spanish teacher's in both highschool and at a major university (by a spanish professor, from spain) that it has something to do with the word "gift."
Here are the two meanings I've been told.
1) It's a mashed version of 'Regal a el dio.' In spanish it's typical to convert "a-el" into a "al", hence: Regalaldio. It's also typical when splicing words together to drop one of the double voweled pairs i.e. "al -al," and hence: Regaladio. as for the "i" in regaladio...*shrug*.

2) The second explanation I've heard is that it is either 'being gifted' or 'having been gifted.'

Lastly, the name is clearly Spanish and is originated in Spain. Being a Regalado from America myself, I've had the pleasure of meeting a Regalado from Spain; they are a rare breed, but are the originals nonetheless. As for the first Regalado's to appear in the America's...no clue who or where.

As for my own lineage, my grandfather has been able to trace it back to the 1800s in Mexico, but has found it difficult to go further than that due to identity confusion. In short, often times brothers and sisters in a family typically named their children after their brothers and sisters, and even parents. So within a short span of 3 generations you will begin to see a large repition of names with no clear way of differentiating who was the son, grandson, nephew and grandparent, let alone nephew 1, nephew 2, nephew 3...etc.

I just found my grandfather's death certificate and his mother's maiden name was Dayao. This is the only match I found for that name in this board... and I am wondering what is the origin of the name? Is it indigenous or Chinese?

My father Mauricio Regalado, born in 1899, had a brother named Apolonio. They were from a small town in Mexico, I'm not sure if it was called Tenamaxtlan, Atengo or San Pedro, about 8hrs from Guadalajara. I remember my mom would talk about these places & when she met my dad. Tio Polo came to live with us in Santa Monica, CA when I was very young, I don't remember him much. He passed away in the 1960's. There was another brother Elias who passed away in Mexico & a sister named Georgina who came to the USA & married into the Casillas family from Santa Monica,Ca. My dad would talk about the property his parents owned called La Jolla in Mexico. Wondering what info you have??

My grandfather was Felipe Regalado born in 1886. Per my father's birth certificate, he originated from Tecuitatlan, Mexico. He and my grandmother, Julia Guzman had my father Felipe Regalado II on 12/17/1921 in Autlan De Navarro, Jalisco Mexico (bordering Guadalajara). Per my father's birth certificate, my father was eighth in birth order. However, I was only aware that my father had five siblings; Fernando Regalado, David Regalado, Christina Regalado, Alberto Regalado and Esperanza Regalado.

All I do know is that the surname originates from Salamanca, Espana.
