Dix, as referenced from a map dated 1874...Were any of your Regans associated with this home, I lived there myself in the 1950s, it was a mansion , which was later converted to a 6 family apt. house..And was demolished in the 60s, or 70s, I am desperatly seeking any photos of that place..Thankyou in advance..

Hi Andrew,

It was my Cornelius Regan/Reagan that married Maria/Mary Mahony. As far as I know Cornelius & Maria didn't have a Patrick.

Maybe your Patrick is a different line entirely. Should you find more info on Patrick, please let me know and I will search my records again.

Thank you for your time and trouble.

Looking for information about the Regans of Tullig, Cork. My GG Grandmother was Mary Regan/Reagan b.abt 1841 who married Timothy Sweeney/Sweeny of Rosscarbery Cork. The marriage record I found lists Tullig as where Mary Regan was from. I believe Tullig is a townland, but am not sure what that really means. Any help would we most welcome.

Victims Annie Duneen was the adopted daughter of the Duneens. She was my father's sister. she was adopted ny the Duneens when their mother died. my father was then fostered. This is true information. my father joined up for WW1 and gave his next of kin as Vicitoria Duneen at Gordonvale via Cairns. his name was John Francis. I cannot trace any more family for him. do you have any photos of Victoria. My father died in 1961. He said that Victoria died in Victoria after an operation.

Hi Jan, Hope all is well with you. Sorry to say but I haven't come across any Gallaghers in my Drake-O'Regan search, even as sponsors or witnesses. The link between the Drakes and O'Regans came when Mary Drake of OldCastletown, Kildorrery married James O'Regan in Kildorrery (Cork) in 1832. They lived in Tully/Tulla (Limerick) in the parish of Darragh/Glenroe. Their daughter, Margaret married my great grandfather, Maurice FitzGerald. I seem to recall hearing that the Drakes of Kilcruig were descendants of the Drakes from OldCastletown. Cheers, Ray FitzGerald.

I would be interested if you ever come across any Gallaghers in your family. I have learned that a John Drake signed a lease for land in 1799 in Kildorrery and that his nearest descendant in 1854 was Maurice Gallagher of Kilcruaig (Kilflyn civil parish and Glenroe RC parish), Limerick. I keep trying to figure out the relationship as land that was given for three lives usually passed from father to son to grandson. It is possible that Maurice's father Thomas married a Drake, perhaps the daughter of John.
Maurice, the one mentioned in the land record, had half of the land of his father left to him. His brother Terence had the other half. Shortly after Griffith's a William Drake took over Terence's land in Kilcruaig. I am now thinking that William was a relative. Also, there were many marriages between people from Kildorrery RC parish and Glenroe RC parish. I was told that there could have been a dance that was regularly held at the crossroads of those two places. For families where there marriage took place in Kildorrery, if children were born before 1855 in Glenroe RC parish, there would be no record of them. I don't know if others who have added replies on this board will read this or not, but the name Florence was used most often in the West Cork area. Since the surname Regan and the first name Jeremiah are very common in the West Cork area, perhaps some of those people will find family in that part of Cork.
In any case, if ever you find a Gallagher serving as a Baptismal sponsor or a marriage witness or in some other way, I would love to hear from you. My email address is janfortado2007"at"hotmail.com (using "at" to avoide spam). Jan

Spelling it Featherkill,Featherkile&Featherkille, I found mention of the last name in www.fultonhistory.com
www.findagrave.com and www.genealogybank.com I didn't check familysearch.org or rootsweb or wwii memorial site. Ancestry.com has it in Public trees and census etc. From the first names and spouses names and the Killfeather name I mentioned in earlier e-mail; it sounds more English or Scotish in it's origin.

I searched Castlegarden.org. There are only two records that might match for a pre-1840 immigration - both in 1837. Their ages are off but not necessarily a reason to discount the records.

See attached.

Ellen Reagan (Birth ~1841) (called Allen on one census)
Jeremiah Reagan ( ~1842-1920)
Mary Reagan (~1843-1913)
Micheal Justin Reagan ( ~1845-1930)

all the census's say the children were born in the states, leading me to believe again that Jeremiah and Johanna came over before the 1840s..and again, the reagan name changes almost every census..until finally it stays at Reagan.
list of name discrepancies for the same family..on the census

1850 Regan
1860 Ragen
1870 Ragan
1880 Reagan

so you can see my confusion..our name today stays with Reagan, as Micheal Justin is a direct descendant he too spelled it a few different ways until 1930 when it stays Reagan permanently...

I only have a little information about him, and his wife Johanna. What I have on them, is from the census here in the states. I have no information about when they arrived to America. In the 1850 census he was in New York with his wife. On the 1850 census it says his children at the time were born here in the states, the first one in PENN and the second one in NY. The oldest was about 10 at the time of the census. Leading me to believe that they were in the states around 1840s but I could not locate a census with them in it from the 1840s.

Unless he lied and the oldest was in fact born in Ireland. The reason im confused is in the 1860 census the oldest childs birthplace changes to NY from PENN. On the census it says Jeremiah and Johanna were indeed born in Ireland. However Im left to guess the date of arrival. Since they couldn't read or write, there age is not consistent from census to census, leading me to believe they were born in 1815 +- 5 years. I know in 1889 they were hit by a train and both were killed. I dont know anything else besides the children they had in the states.

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/30229147/person/12252386319

again, my Jeremiah regan/reagan/ragen/ragan most likely immigrated to the states in the 1830s or early 1840s. His first child was born in abt 1841 and it says she was born in the states. I cant find anything about jerimiah or johanna pre-immigration. As you stated both are popular names in Cork Co. Any info would be appreciated

You are very correct, I did find him in the 60 70 80 census as well, he spelled his fist name and last name different but its the same family ! I noticed in the 1880 census it said he could not read or write so I am sure that had something to do with it. I watch the name go from reagan to ragan to regan to ragen and then back to Reagan permanently in the 1930s. This is why i have had so much confusion. Not until i finally thumbed through the census page by page did I see he went by jeremiah, jermiah, and jerry. Who knows what else they did to the names.

Again thank you so much for taking the time to help, its very appreciated!

Hmmm..this seems to be the family in the 1850 census:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/M4DN-Y2W/p_242785723

Perhaps the Michael in the other messages and Jeremiah are only relatives?? but Census dates are often mixed up!

I would need to spend some time to see who connects to whom or make a chart of some kind, perhaps for a small fee.

Pls contact me if interested regvolk@silk.net

Do you by chance know what this is referencing to? (below)

Unfortunately I can not find any other info before the 1880s on him, however on the census you directed me to it says his son Micheal Reagan was 34 at the time of the 1880 census(my family knows this micheal) and that he was born in New York around 1845. Therefor Jerimah Reagan must be on a 1840/1850/1860 Federal census somewhere because he had his son in New York in the 1840s...but I can not find him on any other piece of information besides the one below.

However I do have this card but unlike most that are filled out, his just has a arrow pointing to a record of some sort. A record which may hold valuable information.

http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=view&r=an&dbid=...

again thank you for your help, my family appreciates it very very much.

Regan to Reagan possible name change

My family here in the states can trace our first ancestor back to Ireland however nothing is known about his ancestors. It is believed he changed his name from regan to reagan upon arrival, as my families last name is Reagan.

last known ancestor for our Reagan line.

Jeremiah reagan (1805 - 1889) Born in Cork Co. Ireland Died in Steuben Country NY.

He Married Johanna Lynch (1808-1889) Born in Kerry Co. Ireland

They were married in 1840 in a church in Rochester NY.
We dont know when they came over to the states, however it must have been before 1840.

if anyone has any info of a similar relative please let me know, we are trying to find out who his parents or siblings were. I understand that his name may have been Jeremiah O'Regan, regan, etc etc..and may have changed when he got here.
