hey my family is all ottino that comes from italy too...
i found out that it was a one of a kind name in that time of the 1700's i think and we are related to a count in italy i am trying to find out more information but the brothers from itlay sound very familiar.

I am looking for an American Ottino. I have a Elizabetta Domenica Lea b1858 married to Giovanni Ottino in Italy. We are from Mercenasco, just 25 km from Valperga. I think it is completely conceivable that our families are connected. I don't have any info about later ancestors who came to America but I would be willing to bet that the later generations (early 1900's) immigrated to the US like some of their cousins. I have some old family photos from Giovanni Ottino but this is the only Ottino I have in my tree. If you think we might be connected, please let me know. My tree is public.

My aunt was married to Frank Sarasio. He was the son of Magureitte Regis and Frank Sarasio. I do know that some of his siblings changed their name to Regis to help avoid discrimination. I know one brother was Andy Regis. Both lived in Des Moines, Ia.. Frank and his wife Violet had two children Louise Sarasio Roland (now deceased) and Bob Frank Sarasio.

My Regis family also came from the Piedmont in Italy, a town named St.Giorgio Canavese. We lost track of them after the war.

Hi Wesley,
I'm just starting now also and am also finding all of this very difficult. My grandmother was a Regis with a ' over the "e". She came from Piedmont in Italy. A town called Cuneo. It's in northern Italy near the French border I believe. She was born around 1883 however I am not sure if it was in Italy or perhaps France

he had 3 brothers:Joseph who went to America and married a lady whose name we do not know. They had 3 children: Frank (Illinois), Joe and Stefania.
The other brother: Francesco came to South Africa and married Yole Miglorini and they had: Nina, Gemma and Ada.
The next brother Felice also came to South AFrica and married Irene Savio, they had: Giannetto and Edda.
Margarita was the only sister and she remained in Italy, Married Battista Virona, their children: Maria, Ida, Pierina and Battista.

My nonno Michele had: Joe, Remy, Pia (who remained in Italy), Valeria and Gino. All lived in South Africa and have passed away. My mother Valeria is the only surviving child of Michele and Felicina Lorenzatti.

Regis is a very common family name in North West Italy and Southern France. It's Latin, not Native American.

I read your message about the Sereno Regis family.
My name is Orlando Sereno Regis.
I live in Belgium but at the origin my family comes from the village "Cuorgne" in the north of Torino.

As far as i know, there are no other Sereno Regis family in Belgium. Only my twoo brothers Sandro and Enzo and my aunt Evelyne. I don't have anymore relatives in Italy and I believe we are the last representatives of our line.

Where are you living ?

John D. Regis was my grandfather. Not sure where he grew up but his family lived in athol, MA for a time. Obviously my parents named me after my mothers maiden name. He passed away in November. I think that the John Derrill Regis in this post was actually my great grandfather.

I do know that she came to the states around 1908 and settled in Collinsville Illinois outside of St. Louis, Mo. She married Felix Vallero around 1907 or so. She died in prematurely in 1935.

I am also researching my family with the last name of Sereno Regis from Valperga area. My Great Grand Mother was Angela Sereno Regis. I belive she was the oldest of three children. She had a brother who we called Johnny, and a sister we called Netti, but I believe they changed their names when they came to the US. My Great Grandmother came from Valperga to the US in 1902. She married Lorenzo Leo Cabodi from Lanzo, we believe, in Jackson, CA in 1907. We believe they knew each other in Italy and that he sent for her to join him in the US. The immigration records state her mother's name was Margherita. Any additional information anyone might know would be greatly appreciated.

I can see I should have paid more attention to my teacher when he was talking about the Middle Ages. Looks like I have some reading and research to do. Will I be able to find this information online or in a book about the history of Itlay?

If I understand what you are saying the Regis name was a name given to all people who worked for a king or royalty. No matter where they came from or they ethnic background -they became or were known as Regis. This is why so many are not related.

Barabra, you seem to have a whole lot more information on our last name than I do. Have you been researching the Regis name and your family for a long time? My Grandfather died when my Dad was young and the only other relative was his brother. I was able to get some info from him, but when he passed away his wife never told us and anything he that might have had about our family was lost. Good thing I know the town where they were born- because if Regis is as common as you say- I would have probably never known where to look. I am really hoping in the next few years to visit Vistrorio.

Regis is a very common name in this area ( southern province of Cuneo ), and most people I know with this name are not related. The name comes from Latin and it means "of the king" aka "serf-slave". It is a common misconception that Italian names do not end with a consonant, but actually they do quite often. Most Regis come from the same mountain village called Montaldo Mondovì. In the early Middle ages it used to be a Longobard/Gothic estate. So Regis was probably the name used for recording serfs by tax agents.

Thank you for your reply. Maybe we are related? Do you by any chance know the origin of our last name? For years we have fought with people who said it wasn't Italian because it didn't end with a vowel. Yet, all the priests know the name and we assumed it must be Latin.

I am trying to help my grandson with a school project on family trees. He has lived with us for the past 12 years and we don't know much about the genealogy on his mother's side of the family. Her father and grandfather both passed away several years ago. His mother says that her father and grandfather, etc., were Tuscarora and Mohawk, but I don't know. One of the sisters is Florida born Oct 1879
And a six mo old Florida's mother is Louisiana on the 1880

My grandfather was Louis Sereno-Regis. He came from Valpagro,Italy when he was 6 years old. He lived in Iron Mountain, Michigan. He moved to Chrisholm, Minn. and was very involved with music. His son Robert Regis is my father.

Interestingly enough there are Sereno Regis' listed in the white pages for Valperga and Torino, Italy. Anybody know Italian? I believe that the birth certificate for James Regis father of John, Tony, Dominic, James and Joe mentions Valperga as his birthplace.

I don't think I ever saw that picture. The only one that I have seen is James and Louisa with the 5 boys. Based on their apparent age, it must have been taken shortly before she died or about 1925/27 time frame.

My maternal grandfather was Cleveland Regis born in St. Martinsville parrish, Louisiana in 1885. We are African American Regis'. I think his mother's name was Louisiana Rhoades and his father was Cyrus Regis but I am uncertain as to his father's name. I am searching for any leads.
