mY FATHER was born in Vilna in 1903; His family name was Reicher. His family emigrated to the USA, IN THE early 1900's. The family story was that the Reichers were pushed out of S. Germany a couple of hundred of years ago. There were many Jews who were forced out of Germany at that time. They settled in Russia - Vilna for a couple of generations. When the family came to the US, IMMigration officials changed the Reicher name to RICHMAN. Vilna, now Vilnius in Lithuania.( Vilna was virtually cleansed of Jews during the second world war)

Hi!
My name is Räihä (a's with dots). This family name has been in Finland seen 400 - 500 years. There is an old believe still living in the family that the original family name has been Reicher from Southern Germany or that area.
I would be happy, if someone has some ideas or knowledge of the first Reicher. The name is pronounced "Räihä" by the local finns.
