I'm not sure who is going to get this comment. I'm trying to get in touch with David Bradford.
Just started working on this research and came upon the name David Bradford
answering questions about Joe Reichman, my uncle. My mom Lillian was his sister, so David you would be my cousin. Just thought it was interesting that I saw a name that is part of my family.

Morris Reichman

Looking for any information about my gggrandfather, Morris REICHMAN, from Russia (possibly Warsaw). He had been married to Gussie RUBIN and had a daughter, Rebecca Reichman LEVINE (my maternal ggrandmother). He had a possible later marriage(s) to an unknown woman. Morris had at least two, possibly three sons with her: Harry, Louis, and Max. According to family information Morris and his unknown wife were killed in a Russian pogrom when the boys were young children. Louis apprenticed to a butcher and Harry became a weaver. They came to the US in about 1890. Max came at the beginning of the 20ieth Century. Louis & Harry married their 1/2 nieces (my grandmother's sisters), Mary & Rose LEVINE. (Max had married Lena____.)
Rebecca Reichman was married to Solomon LEVINE/LURIE/LURIA (son of Michael & Gittel, from Lodz).

Hey Carol,
I don't know any more about my Reichmann gr gr gr grandfather. I do know that his son, my gr gr grandfather, William Lestley, told the story of how his mother was a blind Indian woman that he was with on the 'Trail of Tears' . Apparently, his father was already dead as he thought that the man who raised him was his father and then later found out different. It is an old verbal family story that we are related to Chief John Ross. I don't know if that's who raised him or not. William Lestley claimed to have lived on the James River in Richmond, Va.

Hi - I heard the story that a German man had come to America maybe by the name of Reichmann and changed his name to Richmond. My grandfather Ashby Edward Richmond Sr and my Aunt Lorna made a trip back to WV and OH and told my Uncle Eddie the story when they came back to CA. In some of my research I found my great grandfather "Wellington West-Wesley Richmond" in a Census with father Big Nosed Jake Richmond and mother Rachael Meadows. He married Rachel Anna "Annie Laurie" Bragg. I don't know if the story was true for anyone in my family. If it is, I don't know where he fits in.

Carol

I am a Richmond, VA native searching for my Reichmann line and wondering if we may have any connection?

My line would be Frederick Reichmann from Prussia. Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about him. He was married to Mary Elizabeth (b.1822, Prussia) and had 4 children, including my gg-grandmother Helena Murn.

Does any of that strike a bell?

Carol,
I am also a descendant of Richmond's who changed their name from Reichmann. My great-great grandfather was William Lestley Richmond whose father was a German cobbler named Reichmann. We know that he came to the USA from Germany via England to Richmond, Va. and settled on the James River and married a blind Indian woman. We may have a connection.
marydeerichmond@att.net

Re: Abram, Israel, Morris, Fredda, Bryna Reichman/Reichmann/Richman

These three brothers were from Russia. We believe Fredda and Bryna were their sisters. We also think that their parents were Joseph Reichman and Annie Katz. We think they started out in the Odessa area and moved west. When Abram (Abraham) and Israel came to America in 1900, their last residence was Brest. We have a picture of Joseph and Annie that was taken in Warsaw, Poland. Abraham, Israel and Morris came to New York and Denver. Israel moved on to Texas and probably Louisiana. Israel married Gussie in the U.S. Abraham married Etta Friedman and Morris married Lena Fisher on July 23, 1904. Abraham was married to a woman before Etta Friedman. They had a daughter, Ida, who was born in New York. We assume the first wife died in child birth. We know we have relatives in Israel. Their names were/are Franka and Professor Hirshberg. Their niece and nephew were Victoire and Lucian Hirshberg. If you have any information about any part of this family, we would love to hear from you. You can reach us most easily at lynnesiegel@bigplanet.com.

My grandmother, Katherine A. Shaw was born in 1889 - I thought in Lansdowne, PA (not sure) - at least spent part of her childhood there. She had a brother named Edwin killed in the WWI. Could this be the same? Other siblings were Charlotte, Laura and a brother and another sister. I have always been told that family name had been changed. The ancestors were Huguenots from Alsace-Loraine. This is about all that I know.

Samuel (Miklos) Reichman/Hungary

Dear Genealogists, novice and expert,

My former father-in-law's Hebrew name was Samuel (Hebrew pronunciation: Schmuel rhymes with Ewell), and his civil name was Miklos (nickname: Mikki), and his surname was Reichman. He spelled it with only one final letter n. He was born in a small town (?) near Budapest.
His parents were Alexander Reichman and Maria Schwartz. Although his father was a swine farmer, he never ate non-kosher meat, in keeping with his Jewish faith. Their children were all boys. I am not sure how many, possibly four or five sons. The boys attended Hebrew School each morning, except for the Sabbath. They never had breakfast until after the several mile walk to school, during school, and on the return trek from school. My father-in-law knew the first five books of the Torah (Bible) by heart. He could say the words with the reader in the synagogue without looking.
As far as I know, the whole family perished in the Holocaust, except my father-in-law. He was approximately 20 years old when the concentration camp he was incarcerated in was liberated by Americans. He always searched for his loved ones, but in vain. He never gave up hope of finding them.
Some surnames found in this family are Klein, Halasz, Harrow, Lazar, Lempert, Mandel, Spiegel, Solomon, Sternberg, Schwartz, Markowitz, Trieger. Some are true relations, and some are possibly only friends of the family. But you never know, right?
E-mail me at: googoobucks@aol.com
if you find information relevant to your search.
Sincerely,
Carolyn (Reichman) Hacker

Mr. Bradford, You mention your paternal grandparents who came to florida from austria. Yes, I heard of the pogroms there. That was one reason for them leaving. My grandmoth9er told me that they had suffered plenty of anti-semitism. Fredrich Reichman's name was Reichmann with two 'n's when he left Vienna. Where were your realtives from, Vienna also? ANd was it reichman or reichmann? Also, you do happen to know the tribe that your grandfather belonged to? benjamin, Judah, levi etc...? They left around 1920 I think. So, they escaped befopre the nazi'z came to power(annexation). i AM TOLD THAT most of the family that stayed in Austria went to the camps. I don't know if there were any survivors. If so did they stay in Austria? Did any go to Israel?Hope to hear from you soon.
Be well,
Clayton

Thanks for the message. I don't know if the Reichman grandparents were in Vienna, only that they were from Austria. Here, the name was spelled with one "n". I don't know the tribe. They left before 1920; my father was born about 1898, and he was born in the US. --There wasn't an Israel back then. Receent information suggests they may have first been in St. Louis rather than first in FL, thogh some moved to Miami later. David
