MRS. PATRICK (MARGARET WEST) REILLY
JANUARY 29, 1909

On Monday (Jan. 25) evening at about half-past six o'clock, at her late home in the southeast part of town, occurred the death of Mrs. Margaret Reilly, following an illness of about two weeks with the grippe. For years Mrs. Reilly had been a frail woman and many times her life had swung in balance. While her last illness was considered severe, few realized that the end was so near.
Margaret West was born in Ireland April 29, 1839. She came to the United States in February, 1872, was united in marriage at Camp Grove, Illinois, with Patrick Reilly. Following their marriage they came to this vicinity, locating on a farm northeast of Chatsworth in the spring of 1872. Five years later they removed to the village of Chatsworth, where Mr. Reilly's death occurred November8, 1904, and where the family home had been since. Mrs. Reilly was the mother of three children, all sons, namely: John W., Frank and Thomas, the first two being resident of Chatsworth and the last living at Vincennes, Ind. Besides her sons she is survived by her aged mother, Mrs. Mary West, of Hoopeston, who is now in her 111th year; one sister, Mrs. William Goldsberry, of Hoopeston, and one brother.
The funeral services took place at SS. Peter and Paul's church on Wednesday morning, Rev. W.J. Burke officiating, and the remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in St. Patrick's cemetery.

Michael Reilly, b. Ireland in April 1847
Immigrated to US in either 1847, 1852 or 1852. Census records have different years.
Parents John Reilly and Ann Tucker from Ireland - no other information.

Married Mary Ann Ambrose in 1866.
Resided in 1880 at 491 First Street.
Resided in 1900 and 1910 at 136 Bedford Avenue.
Resided in 1920 at 662 Macon Street.

Died June 7, 1926 in Brooklyn. Buried in Cavalry Cemetery.

Had several children:
Arthur - may have died as a child.
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Reilly - never married, b. 1868, d. 1951.
Annie Reilly - b. 1868.
John Michael Reilly - b. 1869, disappeared 1903 (my gg-grandfather), m. Sarah (Sadie) Donnelly.
Margaret Reilly - b. 1871, d. 1947.
David Reilly - b. 1873, d. 1946.
Helen (Nellie) Reilly - b. 1879, d. 1966, married James McConville.
George Reilly - b. 1886, d. 1896.

Owen Reilly b.1799/Bridget McCabe were my ggrandparents.

Terrence N b.1834 was my ggrandfather.

James T b 1883 was my grandfather. I was born in 1940. I remember the name Jack Reilly being mentioned. I think Jack was my grandfather's uncle.

Robert J b. 1912 was my dad.

It looks as though we are of the same Reilly Clan.

Would you share what you know about Terrence with me? I have him married to Mary Devine, the mother of Terrence.

Did he marry a second time to Rose Ann Mullen? No children. Rose died in Chickasaw, but I don't know where Mary died.

Father Dan E. Reilly, Chicago before 1909

I recently transcribed a 1909 letter from a Father Dan E. Reilly to my husband's grandmother in Chicago. (I presume his full name would be Daniel Reilly, but that is not how he signed his name.)

At the time, Fr. Reilly was recuperating from illnesses and writing from Tucson, AZ, but I assume from the letter that he had previously served in either Chicago (St. Anne's?) or in New Lexington, OH (St. Rose?).

If anyone has a priest by that name and time period related to your ancestry, I would love to know more about his personal bio. I would appreciate hearing from you.

I'm trying to track down information on Anne Conroy (a great great aunt) - born Clonaslee Ireland in 1862. She immigrated to the United States and married Henry Oreilly. I believe Henry already had 4 children when they married (John, Richard (b. 1885), Harry (Henry b. 1880) and Elizabeth (b. 1887)). I think Henry's first wife was Catherine.

Henry and Anne had 4 children: Anne (b. 1894), Tom (b. 1892), Letitia (b. 1896), and Mollie (b. 1902). Letitia married a Henry Rowe (sp???? he died in 1936).

Henry died in Hudson, New Jersey between 1910 and 1920 and Anne died in Hudson, New Jersey between 1920 and 1944. Any info would be appreciated.

Looking for info Margaret Reilly (1823 Riley?), and her husband, Michael Collins (b 1823). They had three sons, Andrew, Patrick and James. They stayed in Galway.

They had two daughters, Mary (1839 and Margaret (1852). Only Mary and Margaret emmigrated to the US.

Mary Collins married John Peterson in NY in 1868. They lived in Matawan, NJ for many years.

Margaret Collins may or may not have arrived in the US around the same time as her sister. She settled in Matawan, NJ, where she married Thomas Martin in 1878. I've always heard that the Martins and Collins lived in the same area in Connemera Galway.

My Bernard F. Reilly was born in Cavan about 1857. He also lived in Scotland. His son Michael was a state assemblyman for 8th District of Brooklyn and helped start the newspaper delivery union in NYC. Bernard also had a son named Bernard. Any connection?

your 2003 post caught my attention because I have been researching Reillys in San Francisco -arriving from 1880-96.
John Reilly (b. 1859) moved to San Mateo after 1906 earthquake and fire. I only know of sisters-Catherine and possibly Jennie. All were from Claremorris, County Mayo.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I found out that this Reilly family was not mine. When I started my research many years ago, this family was the only one that fit (and the area was correct). Some information provided to me by my grandmother helped me figure out this error and find the correct Reilly family.

Perhaps we'll find a Reilly connection farther up the tree...

From the information you provided, I believe we are related. My great grandfather was James Reilly with the same parents and siblings you listed. I believe that Edward was a priest who died before 1947. He is mentioned in James Reilly's death notice. If you are still interested, let me know and I will send you what I have. My Grandfather, Michael Reilly, lived on Baltic and then Park Slope, was a state assemblyman in Brooklyn in the 1920's and was a partner in an auction business with politician Pete Mcguinnes. My granfather also played a roll in starting the union for the delivery of newspapers in NY. Fun to look at Brooklyn Eagle archives and see articles about him fighting with other Irish politicians and Italian mobsters. He was a little guy with a big punch.
Would love to know if there are any Reilly connections out there. I am still trying to nail irish roots. My Grandfaher's father Barney and Barney's father Michael Reilly(wife Mary?) I beleive came from Cavan to America via Angus Scotland. and My mother is Marian Reilly, son of Michael Reilly. I will run the name Arthur Reilly by my mom

Don't know if we are on the same tree or not - maybe close or distant cousins. Does any of this line up with what you have?

I have a Michael Reilly married to Ruth Collins in about 1825-1830ish in Cavan, Ireland. I have a note that he was a manager for Lord Farnham's estate in County Cavan. He had 6 children, most of whom it seemed came to the US probably about 1860 - James Reilly (married a German lady in New York), John Reilly (married Mary Jane Elliott) Henry Elliott (fought in the Civil War), Magaret Elliott (married Thomas Breen in New York), Harriett (married in Ireland to a Foster), and David Elliott (who also fought in the Civil War and died in an Ohio hospital).

I am looking for any information related to Nicholas J. Reilly, who was born at sea in April 1848. He and his parents (Daniel and Margaret) arrived in Canada on an Irish immigrant ship, then made their way to Michigan, where Nicholas grew up. He then moved to Minnesota, where he met his wife, Cecilia, and tended bar for her brother-in-law, James K. O'Brien. Nicholas and Cecilia had several children, the eldest of whom was William.

THOMAS REILLY - Quogue, LI, NY - c1940's

Thank you in advance for any information/recollection of Thomas Reilly, Quogue, LI, NY. Thomas Reilly had a sister named Alice. They lost their parents during the great flu epidemic. They then resided with relatives in Quogue. Thomas was a member of the US Army during WW2. He was wounded in Italy in 1944. We doubt if he is still alive today but would like to know of any heirs so we may complete the family tree. Thank you.
