Hello. I am looking for information on all the Reitzel's in my family.I have been reading some of these posts and realized by my dad that i am related to Georgi Reitzel and many of the names listed. Im from Hickory, North Carolina. My grandfathers name is Harold Reitzel who married Frances and my dad is Baron Reitzel. One of his brothers is named Blake Reitzel and another Terry Reitzel. I dont know hardly anything about my dad's side. Not even my aunts, uncles or cousins so any information would be great!

I believe so based on the letters I have seen posted in 2008 anyways. I would love to find out what he has gathered. I am unable to trace my Wrightsell line further back than 1830 and I know he was looking at that line as well.

He is buried in Moncton at the Elmwood Cemetery. He had 6 children with my grandmother, only one (Arnold Jr.) has passed away. My mother has his baby book with information about when he was an infant in Massachusetts and I believe it notes where his baby sister is buried. If you could provide me with an email address, I can scan and email it to you. My mother also has a photo of his uncle or grandfather (not sure which), that I could also send to you. He also has nephews and a niece in Nova Scotia (the niece found us a couple of years ago as she had been adopted). Are you one of Pearl's children?

Hi,

You must be related to my Aunt Sue. Dave (Buddy) Reitzel is my uncle and has sent me some photos of his mother's family.
George Wagner Reitzel was married twice. First to Margaret Chivers, in Braceville, Indiana and after her death to Cora Ulbrick in Chicago. He and Maggie had 6 children, Glenn, Zeta, Edwin, Emery David and Lois. I believe they also had a child who died very young, Joseph C. His father was listed as William H Reitzel and Harry W Reitzel on two different census lists. His mother was Rebecca R Van Rensaleer. They were both born in PA. I haven't gone back any farther than that. If you'd like to view my tree I will invite you. I have some photos and stories.

Jan McMahon

Jerome's father was Christian Guido Reitzel who was the son of Henry, the child of Adam Reitzel. I hope this helps. I would love to know if you have any more information about the Reitzel's.
I found that Adam Reitzel's, born in about 1730 and married to Margret, father was a Baron and was also named Adam Reitzel. I found in one place where it said that they were from Baiern, Germany. I hope this helps...after 7 years you probably already have this info. BTW, Adam (1730) died before reaching the states. He was swept overboard and drowned.

I also have a problem and was wondering if you might be able to help me. I'm looking for offspring of Adam Reitzel's male grandson's children.

Either that or for the father of Robert Rightsell, born in about 1820 in Tennessee, and married to Rachael Langston, born in about 1821 also in Tennessee.

I've been having an impossible time finding either. Thanks for any information you may have.

My e-mail is nrsejlie1@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
Julie D.

Reitzel of Western N.Y. and Alsace

I am researching my great-great grandfather Bernard Reitzel. At this point I have reached a dead end, the only information I have been able to find is 1) from the records of St John's Church in Alden, N.Y. where the parents of his son, my great grandfather William (Gulielmus) Reitzel, are listed as Bernardus Reitzel and Walberga Braden on William's baptism record dated May 25, 1851; and 2) from the 1880 N.Y. census where Walberga, last name now given as 'Binder' is listed as a widow 68 years old living with her son William who lists his father birthplace as Alsace.
I have also seen Walburga's surname listed as 'Buchbinder'. She had a sister named Anna Marie Binder who married Thomas Roos. Any assistance in connecting Bernard with other Reitzel's of Alsace would be greatly appreciated. He apparently disappeared around the time of the Civil War and was never heard from again.

Heinrich (Henry) father to George Reitzel?

I am trying to find out if George REITZEL born @ 1823, m. to Anne WAYNE 25 May 1845 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabethtown, Lancaster Co., PA is the son of Heinrich (Henry) REITZEL.
I have the following information...
Heinrich (Henry) Reitzel b. 11 Nov. 1778 m. Sabina SCHULTZ at Christ Lutheran Church, York, York Co., PA.
Heinrich & Sabina have the following children...
1. Henry REITZEL b. 14 Oct. 1816 christened 8 Dec. 1816 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabethtown, Lancaster Co., PA m. to Fannie GOOD.
2. Susanna REITZEL b. 14 Dec. 1814 christened 5 Feb. 1815 at Christ evengelical Lutheran Church, Elizabethtown, Lancaster Co., PA d. 28 Feb. 1895 m. Benjamin HERSHEY 18 NOV 1834 Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabethtown, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania
3. Jacob REITZEL b. 12 Feb. 1819 christened 1 May 1819 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lancaster Co., PA d. 10 Feb. 1899 Sterling, Whiteside Co., IL m. Susan RUTT 3 Dec. 1840 Jacob & Susan moved to Sterling, Whiteside Co., IL from Chambersburg, Franklin Co., PA after the Civil War. They are my 3rd great grandparents.

I have a theory that George REITZEL is Jacob REITZEL's brother, due to the coincidences. They being that Jacob & his siblings were christened & married in the very same church that George & Ann were married in. Also, there is only 4 years difference between George & Jacob's ages.

If anyone could help prove, or disprove my theory, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Donna Rae Smith

Don, your post may have solved a mystery for me. I research descendants of Johan George Reitz, immigrant to Northumberland Co., PA in 1751, and am also interested in other 18th century Reitz families.

I've found the 1790 census entry of Jacob Reitz in Lancaster (city) but never found him otherwise. Was this your Jacob Reitzel?

Yes I am interested in your info on the Reitzels. Ellen Reitzel's father's father was a brother to David Reitzel. David Reitzel was my paternal grandmother's great grandfather. I have a lot of just data about the Reitzel's and a xerox copy of a picture of David Reitzel and a copy of a picture of William Miles Reitzel's 50th Anniversary and a copy of the newspaper article about the anniversary. William Miles Reitzel was a son of David and thereby a cousin of Frederick Reitzel. I didn't know who Ellen married or where she lived till I heard from you. Thanks

A Lavina May Reitzel (dau of Philip Sheridan Reitzel, Sr. and Sarah Lavina Bennett Reitzel) married Eugene Dow Gordon in Waterville, Kansas Dec. 1916. Lavina May was born Jan 6, 1893. Eugene was the son of Theodore and Eliza Gordon and was born Aug 20 1889. I do not have any children listed for this couple, nor any death dates or places.

Your name is what caused me to look at this old message. In May of this year I went to Waterville to meet a relative that I had discovered in my genealogy research. I took pictures of all the Reitzel grave markers that I could easily find. (I was in a cast for a broken leg.) One marker was for a Maren F Reitzel and her husband David Philip Reitzel who is the grandson of Philip Sheridan Reitzel, Sr. I do not have data on these two except what was on the marker and I knew that David P was the grandson of Philip Sheridan Reitzel, Sr. Do you happen to be related and, if so, how?

I have quite a bit of data on the Reitzels and am willing to share what I have. Hope to hear from you soon.
Kay Stearns

Hi Vickie - Thank you so very much for the quick response to my query on the English equivalents/translations of your/our ancestors names Harck Syboutzen and Wyntje Theunis.

At this point in time I don't know whose line that I am descended from but I have a feeling that you may be able to help me find out the answer to this question (Sybout, Theunis and John Krankheyt).

My father was Wilbert Jacob Cronkwright b. 9-Mar-1912 Burford Twp, Brant Cty, Ontario and his father was Jacob John Conkright/Cronkrite/Cronkwright b. 6-Jan-1884 b. Burford Twp, Brant Cty, Ontario and his father was Charles Henry Conkright/Cronkrite/Cronkwright b. Abt. 1841 Burford Twp, Brant Cty, Upper Canada and his father was Percus/Purces Conkright/Cronkrite/Cronkwright b. NY, USA ??

It appears that my father's ancestors came from NY/ PA USA to Ontario, Canada and then some moved onto Michigan, USA but this still needs to be proven with factual information.

I will look forward to your responses and help on the above mentioned issues in the future.
lol....&....thanks....Gerald

I am not an expert on Dutch or German for that matter, but I found in some German or Dutch dictionary that Krank - sick and heyt = Head, so Krankheyt means "sick head" possibly and as my sick humor believes, I am guessing the family took on htis name as a joke to show the British that they were sick in the head to have to take on an anglized surname (just my attempt at humor) - But Herck = Hercules (and is the same as Hendrick), Sybout has no English conversion - Wyntje is the Dutch version of Lavina and Theunis is the English equivalent of Anthony. Which line of Herck's sons do you come down?? I am via Sybout. Vickie

Hi Vickie - This is a very interesting letter about the Americanization of Cronkite from Krankheit ancestors from Dutch-Holland-Netherlands that immigrated to the Americas New Amsterdam/New York in ca 1642.

The original immigrant in this line which produced all decendants with the Cronkite, Cronkhite, Conkright, Cronkwright, etc., surname were Harck Syboutzen and Wyntje Theunis.
Donna,
From the information I have is that "Elizabeth" married Charles Young (Jung) about 2-9-1831in little York (York town), York county, Pa. They moved at some time to Mechanicsburg, Pa. where they had 4 children. Then he attended studies at the Lutheran seminary in Gettysburg. He was assigned to churches in Somerset county, Pa. Then he moved his family to Dixon, Lee county, Ill. Two of their daughters married in the Lee county area, Eliza to William Rink and Maria(h) to Noah Rhoades. Charles and Elizabeth returned to Cumberland county, Pa. Finally they moved to Saline county, Ks. where their son John Andrew married my gggrandmother.
An interesting point in your email, Sterling Ill. is about 15 miles from Dixon where they lived and he preached at St. Paul Lutheran church.
Charles spoke German at the churches in Ill. and Ks., which makes me think he was of the Pa-Dutch (Jung) and would have married in the ethnic group.
Charle's brother John married a Mary Cathernie Baker and moved to Holt county, Missouri which is on the Kansas border.
That is the top level of what I have, I hope the Elizabeth Reitzel (sp) that I have is a match into your family and that you have further info.
Charles, John, Mary and Catherine were orphaned in Adams county aount 1814 when their father Andrew died of unknown causes.
Let me know how this fits.
John

I think your Reitzel girls, who married the Youngs, may be related to my line. My ggg grandfather was born in Lancaster County, moved to Chambersburg, PA @ 1845 - 1850 and moved his family to Sterling, IL after the Civil war. His name was Jacob Reitzel, and one of his sons was Jacob R. Reitzel. Jacob R. Reitzel had a son, Harry. Harry and his wife, Alda "May" moved to Kansas for awhile. They stayed with someone, who was part of the Reitzel family, on a farm in Kansas and helped on the farm. They moved back to Sterling, IL after a short while, because May was homesick. I don't know the names of the family they stayed with. I think it was in the northeast part of the state - I'm not sure.

Thank you,
Donna Rae Smith

I saw your notation on Americanization of Cronkite from Krankheit, and wanted to clarify something (re: Walter Cronkite). Walter's ancestors were Dutch, from Holland, and immigrated to the Americas in ca 1642. The original immigrant in this line which produced all decendants with the Cronkite, Cronkhite, Conkright, Cronkwright, etc., surname were Harck Syboutzen and Wyntje Theunis. Harck was from Langendyck (North Holland) and Wyntje was from Naarden. They had four sons, Sybout, Threunis, Jacobus and John, who started out going by their patronymic, Herricksen (aka Herks, etc.), but in about the late 1600's to first decade of the 1700's, added Krankheyt as their surname. This was after the English had acquired New York and appears to have to been a request/requirement of the British. No one knows why they picked this surname. Jacobus did not leave any heirs, but Sybout, Theunis and John were prolific.

This is such a small amount of information for you, but I remember my father in law, Julius Reitzel, mentioning that one of his cousins had moved to Texas. Julius was asked if he wanted to go with the cousin and he refused. Julius was born in Indiana in 1902 and died in 1979. I have a bit more on the Reitzels who migrated to Indiana in 1831 if this pans out for you. Hope this gives you a lead.
