Will get back to you on Remson. When I saw your name was Gamble I wanted to tell you this and see if you can help me. In the 1920 census for Florence, Lauderdale, AL ( we had left Talladega) it has Thomas Gamble, 16 years old and then has AS, I know my folks did not have adopted sons. They had another Luther Carl Floyd as AS I have found him and his ancestry but have never been able to find a Thomas Gamble. Would sure appreciate any help. Have alway been curious why they were living with my folks.I found Luther Carl from Pike Co AL. his parents and siblings. Any help or directions deeply appreciated. We went to Live in Flint MI about 1926 and then came back to Talladega to live.

The Thomas Gamble you mention is unknown to me. I have seen a Gamble in the Talladega County census. There were also Gambles in nearby Tallapoosa County. Finally, there is today a family of Gambles in Sheffield AL -- neighbor to Florence -- who may be able to help you. I do not know them but have heard of them; one was/is a dentist.

My Gambles were from Blount Springs AL and, before that, from NC, TN & VA. The only thing I can suggest as to the Thomas Gamble you mention are the Orphans Court records -- presuming he was officially adopted.

If I run across any possible lead, I will let you know.
Bob

Most interesting information. Thank you. While my interest is scholarly, I also happen to be descended from Capt Thomas Currry, father of William Curry Sr, through one of Thomas Curry's daughters. We have bits and pieces of information on the Currys, but obviously nothing comprehensive.
Are you descended from William Curry Jr and Mary Marie Jemison?
Bob Gamble
Montgomery AL

I was under the impression that Mary Remson was the daughter of David Murray (1760-1840), a Revolutionary soldier from VA who is -- like Mary Remson Curry herself as well as her second husband, William Curry -- buried in the Wm Curry family cemetery northeast of Talladega AL. Thus I was surprised to see that youhave her listed as the daughter of Robert Jemison.

I am researching my great-great grandmother. I have her as Lydia Remison. That is how she is listed in the marriage index from Cass Co Nebraska. In the 1860 census for Mills Co Iowa she is listed with husband Gardner Powers as 23 born in New York making her d.o.b. as 1837. I have found some mistakes in spelling of names and was wondering if Remison could be Remson Thank You Romona

Remson (Ramson) of L.I., NY

I just received my Grandmothers DAR records. She was an ancestor of Auris Ramson, later changed to Remson, who was a Revolutionary War Soldier in the Suffolk County Malitia, 1st Regiment of Minute Men. He was born in 1758 at Springfield, L.I., NY. and he died on Oct 26, 1839 also at Springfield. His wife was Ann Bergen of Flatlands, NY. They had. They had 6 children; Susannah (married Michael Golden), Altje (my direct ancestor who married Derrick Lamberson), Jannetje, Aury (married Sarah Higbee), John, and Rem. Most of the people listed in this paper were born and died in Springfield, Long Island.
I hope this is some help. Larry.
