Jos. S Rentz died Jacksonville Florida October 1918

Obit in 12 Oct 1918 Florida Metropolis spelled Jos. S RANTZ:
In the death of Joseph Alfred Rentz, "Jack" as he was called by his friends, the State lost one of its most promising young business me. Born 31 years ago at Harrison, Georgia, at an early age he developed those traits of character that make for a high average of manhood, and business success. Engaged in the milling and lumber business, his extensive enterprise brought him in touch with a large number of the leading business men of Central and North Florida with whom he was a universal favorite. Almost ten years ago he was married to Miss Blanche Davis, daughter of Mr and Mrs A S Davis, at that time of Georgia, but now residing here in Jacksonville. His devotion to his wife and little girl was a mark of his noble nature and chivalrous character. Mr Rentz was a consistent member of the Methodist Church, and generally, when he could come back home from his business trips, he was found faithfully in his place in church on the Sabbath day. He was liberal toward his church and all benevolent enterprises, and no worthy cause appealed to him in vain. A good citizen, a kind husband and father and a noble Christian character is gone and sympathy goes out to his sorrowing loved ones.

Johan Michel RENTZ (1807-1842) is buried in Old St Joseph Cemetery in Price Hill on the plot owned by his brother Sebastian RENTZ (1798-1866).

His bother Ferdinand RENTZ (1809-1857) and sister Maria RENTZ KIRCHHOF (1813-1886) are buried on the KIRCHHOF/RENTZ plot in Spring Grove Cemetery.

I do not yet know where his brother Joseph RENTZ (1816-1871) is buried.

Sebastian came to Cincinnati from Saulgau, Wuerttemberg in 1823. Ferdinand, Joseph and Michel left Saulgau as a group in 1834.

I do not yet know when Maria left Saulgau, but she married Ludwig KIRCHHOF (1811-1897) in Cincinnati in 1840.

There is a Christopher RENTZ (1779-1841) who is also buried on Sebastian's plot. He could be their father or their uncle.

Another possible father could be Eugen RENTZ (b abt 1775).

From 1880-1892, Wendelin ARNOLD (abt 1831-abt 1893) lived in Newport, KY. According to newspaper articles from the 1870s, he was quite the drinker.

Regards,
Graydon Gorby

Louisiana.

George S. Rentz was son of John A. Rentz b. 1815 Georgia and Josephine Blackshear Moore, b. Georgia.

I have quite a bit more if you wish. Lewis Malone Ayer is his great grandfather and Susan Ellendor Ayer was married to John Dexter Platt. Interestingly enough, Susan is the mother of Frank Platt, who was Douglas Smoak's stepfather so he has two familial connections to Susan. According to Douglas, she had sons named, Frank, Joseph, Seymore. A daughter named Carrie and some other children. Douglas has additional info. Please let me know if you are interested in speaking with Douglas.

Hello (You didn't give your name in the original post at Ancestry.com),
My name is charlie and I just saw your 6.5 year old post asking for help with the Renz families from Emmingen, Germany. My mother was a Rentz and have traced her ancestors to Emmingen also. I have been there and have a book which includes my ancestors and perhaps yours. It's the Ortssippenbuch for Nagold (basically the genealogy listing of families for the county which includes the Emmingen of our interest).
If you still use the same email and get this message, I would be glad to help you check my source for your people. Please reply through Ancestry and let me know how to contact you.
Regards, Charlie

Uzziah Rentz buried on farm in Varnville

Hi Debbie and all interested in Uzziah Rentz. Thanks to a Varnville native, Norman Rentz, who descends from Uzziah, Norman has confirmed that Uzziah is indeed buried on his farm in Varnville.

Just thought you'd want to know that. Norman wasn't aware of his line beyond Uzziah, though if my research proves correct, I have determined it to be:

Norman
His Father Norman
Grandfather Noah William
G-Grandfather Isaac
GG-Grandfather Uzziah
GGG-Grandfather Peter (son of immigrant ancestors)
His GGGG-Grandfather, Johann George Rentz, was born in Ebhausen, Germany on March 15, 1720 (per his German Church records and the German kinship books).

Johann George Rentz and his wife, Catharina Maier (Majer) left Germany in 1750, landed first in Pennsylvania, then landed at Charles Town on ship Anne, October 1751.

The southeast corner of the Rentz land granted by the King is where Wesley Chapel now sits. There is a Hiers family marker there, who also came with the Rentz family on the same ship Anne and were also granted land nearby. This land is about 3 miles from Rivers Bridge State Park. I've always wanted to erect a Rentz marker there! Researcher Hiers believed that these immigrant Rentz ancestors are probably buried in the ancient cemetery hidden in the woods just behind and to the left of the "newer" Wesley Chapel cemetery. I have found no other Rentz individual named Uzziah, so he is quite unique!

Fay Rentz

Re: Lydia Rentz,Georgia

The parents of Lydia Rentz are unknown. The names Thomas Rentz and Caroline (Tiner?) are one of many POSSIBILITIES from the research of myself (Debra Pate) and Karen Yaklin. People have taken our research and published it as proven fact and spread it all over the internet. These names are only a possibility and have not been proven.

We found records of a Thomas Rentz that was shown in the tax records of Baker County GA. It is most likely that he was a son of Joshua & Anna Rentz of Baker Co., GA. Thomas Rentz died young, if memory serves me well. I found a death record for a Caroline Rentz too.

We are guessing that maybe Thomas & Caroline were married and the 4 unexplained children were theirs that are shown in the home of Joshua & Anna Rentz, which Anna raised, after Joshua died. These children were born after Anna's husband Joshua died, so we know they are not Anna's children, but probably her grandchildren. Lydia was one of the four children.

As far as Caroline being a Tiner we have NO PROOF that she was a Tiner. We have been told that William James Rentz (who was called Tiner by his family and friends) was a half brother to Benjamin Tiner. We do not know if or how this could be true. This is only a rumor. One of the MANY THEORIES that Karen and I came up with is that maybe Thomas was the father of these 4 and Caroline was his wife and that maybe she was a Tiner or married to a Tiner before she married Thomas which would account for the Tiner connection. THIS IS ONLY ONE OF MANY THEORIES WE HAVE TOSSED AROUND. THERE IS NO PROOF.

We do know that these four are siblings:
William James Rentz b.Nov 23, 1844
Arkansas "Babe" Rentz b.1846
Benjamin "Tobe" Rentz b. March 16, 1847
Lydia M. "Liddy" Rentz b. May 1855

If anyone finds proof of the parents of these four please contact me debra_pate@yahoo.com
