Hi,frankiemorey, if the grandfather, Ignacio Rey, came from Mexico, the most likely is that his family came from Spain. Rey is a rather common family name worldwide. I have entered a "Rey doc." in internet many years ago (I´m now 78) where I list over a 1000 REYs, including my neclear family, from various world countries. When I started my research in Alaska, I thought it was a unique name, now I reckon it could have been started anywhere. I found an explorer-soldier,last name REY, in San Lorenzo de Nootka, BC with Capt. Alberni in the early 1790s.

My name is Gloria Sanchez Martinez from Ohio. I was born in Carrizo Springs, Tx. I was able to find my grandfather's, Cirino Arce's border crossing date (from Mexico)here on Ancestry and I also found my grandmother's, Juliana Longoria, who was his wife at the time. She later married Felix Trevino and they settled in Taft,TX. My father's dad was Ramon Sanchez and his mother was Elijia Gutierrez. If there's anyone out there that goes back further and has the name of Cirino Arce's parents and their origin, as well as the Sanchez & Gutierrez origins,I would really appreciate it if you would get in touch with me, via this thread. I hear they were from Spain prior to Mexico but there is no documentation. Just so you know, my father's name was Florentino Sanchez and my mother was Amalia Arce Sanchez. They both have passed. It would be great if we could share birth, baptism,marriage, death certificates. Hope to be hearing from more of my family.

It does not sound like we are closely related, maybe distantly related. I don't have a Martina Rey in my line, at least that I know of. I wish we were related. Let me know if you get anywhere with your Martina.

My grandmother was Martina Rey. I think her grandfather's name was Perfidio, but I don't have a lot of information about any other family members on the Rey side, only that she was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and moved to El Paso, she worked for Benito Fierro, a very successful business man, and seems to have gotten involved with him. He was married and had children, but she had children from him too. I'm not sure if they ever got married, but she took the name of Fierro and my father was named Benito Fierro. They moved to California and settled in Modesto. My father died in 2001.

Wow! I'm a Rey too. My name is Leticia Rey but my parents are from Carmargo, Chihuhahua Mexico. My grandparents were Romulo and Maria Marin Rey. That's all I have for right now..
I do know that my grandfather's dad name was Thomas and Carolina Rey.

My dad was Jesus Jose Rey, my grandfather was named Mousio
Rey both born in Chihuahua.

Are you still interested in finding David and Sarah Rey? They were never in New Mexico, they are in California. David is 29 tomorrow (Jan. 10) and Sarah will soon be 26. I will ask them if they want to be found; they have no living blood family that they are in close contact with, other than one another. Their mother JoAnne Lonsinger lost custody of them when they were kids. They grew up apart in foster care.
They haven't heard from their father since David was about 5 and Sarah was a toddler.

Not sure if there is a connection, but I do have a José Maria Rey in my line. I don't have dates, but we estimate his birth around 1810 or so. He was married to an Ysabel Zambrano and as far as I can tell had at least 6 children together between the late 1830s and late 1950s (Francisca, José Angel, Casimiro, Rosenda, Marciano, and Pomposo). We have some documentation that José Maria was a spanish soldier as well.

This family was originally from San Eli but moved to Guadalupe, Chihuahua after the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. Most of the family later moved back to El Paso after a few generations in Chihuahua.

Could be a link, but hard to say - perhaps we can find one?

My guess is that your John Rey most likely is related since there are so few Reys, John is the right name, and Michigan is the area in question. What other information on him and any other Reys do you have?

I found a whole little blurb on Carter Rey. I too am searching for my Rey side. The only name I can come up with is that Wager Rey was the father of Carter Rey. We had believed that Carter Rey was our great grandfather but that is not so. My grandfather was Edwin Wallace Rey and he was here from 1906 - 1980. He had many children but I do not know who his father was. Any ideas?

I am searching for my REY ancestry. The only info I have located is of my Rey ancestry in Guerrero, Coahuila, MX, but cannot find anything earlier than that of them in Guerrero, Coah. I feel they came form somewhere else. The only place I can find any Rey families is in Chihuahua.

This is all I have:
My great grandfather was Antonio Rey. It appears he married twice. The second being to my great grandmother, Ursula Ovalle Perez. They were in Guerrero, Coahuila and were born about 1860-1870.

Antonio's father was Mauricio Rey and married to Anastacia Alanis. I figure they were born about 1825-1830. They were in Guerrero, Coah too.

Antonio Rey and first wife had Julia who married a Perez and had Benancio, and Dolores who married a Saenz.

Antonio Rey and Ursula Perez had Mauricio, Agustin, Juan (died young), Maria de Refugio, Rafaela and my grandfather. All born in Guerrero, Coah.

If any of these names sound familiar please let me know.
