I have a photo of Leonard Rhea's headstone. He is buried at Big Spring Presbyterian Church cemetery in Friendsville, Blount County. I am curious to know if Leonard is the brother of Mary Ann "Polly" Rhea that married Harvey McConnell. Mary is my 3X ggm.
Thanks.

I have a 3x gm, Mary Ann "Polly" Rhea born in Blount County, TN (19 Sep 1825). She married Harvey "Bremer" McConnell 8 Jan 1845. I have her record of death being 30 May 1913. I would love to find evidence of her parents. I have found some markers in Big Spring Presbyterian Church cemetery, but have been unable to make a connection back to Mary.

Thomas Rhea -- Allen County, Ohio -- 1834

I am looking for information on Thomas Rhea (m. Elizabeth) who owned and mortgaged a 40 acre farm in German Township, Allen County, Ohio. (The mortgage was for $100 and the farm was located in section 15 of the township.) I haven't been able to locate him on the census, and am assuming that he remained in the area only for a short time. I am doing research on rural mortgages in the pre-Civil War period, and appreciate any and all help.

Rea-Ray-Wray DNA Project

Dear Rhea Researchers,

We would like to extend an invitation to join our newly merged Rea and Wray DNA projects at Family Tree DNA. We now have 139 participants and call ourselves The Rea-Ray-Wray DNA project. This project includes all variations of the surname. This is an excellent time to join as Family Tree DNA is having their annual holiday sale. Go to www.familytreedna.com to order a kit. This special sale ends on December 31st. Also, check out our Rea-Ray-Wray home page to see the names of the most distant ancestors of those in our project, go to www.familytreedna.com/public/Wray. When there, click on Y-DNA Results in the blue bar in the upper part of the page, then select Classic. Here you will see that we have Rhea lines from Scotland, Ireland, England, Germany, and other counties; as well as, many from the United States going back to the early 1700s.

While the specific goals and objectives for each of our participants may vary, we are all interested in gaining answers to genealogical questions that cannot be answered through conventional research. DNA testing is a very powerful tool. When used in conjunction with paper trail evidence, it can provide us with answers to some very important questions. DNA can tell us whether or not two or more poorly documented Rhea families living in the same area at the same time are related. It can also bring surprising results, such as connecting two Rhea lines that were before believed to be unrelated!! For those participants matching DNA with someone who can trace his lineage back to the 1700s or even 1600s, it is an incredible experience.

It you have any questions about how DNA testing can help you with your genealogical research, don’t hesitate to contact us:

Daniela Moneta, dmoneta@cox.net
Joseph C. Some of the relatives
still live in the same house on Granny's Creek.
A story was published in The Braxton Democrat a few years ago
about Mancel. His Grandfather, or Great Grandfather was a son of a President of the United States.
Mancel was a black man with blue eyes.
He died a few of years ago at around 90 years old.

I have a Sara Rhea born around 1810 supposedly in NC who married Meday (Media) Jordan on Aug. 28, 1829 in NC in my husbands line. They lived in TN before moving to Whitley County, KY. I haven't been able to find anything on her for over 3 years. Could she have been the daughter of the Rhea in your line? Any help would be appreciated. I'm not sure if when she was born it was NC and now is TN, because the lines have been changed a few times.

Hi Frankie! Wonderful hearing from you and such a nice long letter! I received information from Peggy via Martha Barker, Maggie Ruth's daughter, Tishie Ruth's granddaughter. I'll ask her if she has heard from Peggy lately.

I have no doubt that you and I have met. I used to go to Alexander family reunions with my mom. She is your age, and both her grandparents (Alexander and Henry families) lived in McLean. We used to stay out on Maggie Ruth Johnston's ranch. I have such fond memories of Tishie Ruth's house. Loved her front porch and the back yard. I still have some of the flowers she made.

Thanks for keeping in touch. I sent the picture to your email address. I have the picture of JO and his brothers, but don't know where I put it. I have some pictures here with me, but the rest are at my home in Texas. I'll be back there in a couple of weeks.

I'm so very glad you answered. How are you related to Peggy Wood Lewis in Arkansas.\? we corresponded several years ago and traded information but I lost contact with her and the last time I tried to email her it was returned,

I saw John Otis Rhea's picture on some family tree site. He was a right handsome gentleman in spite of the beard. Could you email me a copy of his picture. I would love to have it. On another site I saw a picture of JOR and his brothers. I'm going to try to get a copy of that picture also.

My grandfather, John Wesley Rhea started going by the name of Thaxton (his mother's name) when he was grown and all of his descendants are Thaxtons. I did not know this until my mother died and in going through her papers and finding what she had written about her family. I wish I had known about it when she was alive I might have been able to solve this mystery.

I am an 88 year old great grandmother who used to go to Aunt Tishie's every year to a family reunion in McLean. We used to visit Aunt Minnie (Lemmon) every year also. Aunt
Tishie's son, Oscar, visited us in Little Rock, AR a couple of times. My mother was John Wesley Rhea/Thaxton's daughter Besse Lee Rhea,

At the moment I am driving myself crazy trying to find information about my grandmother, Mary (Mollie) Icee Reeder. Mother had written that she was born in Pecos, TX and married there but I can find no Reeders and I dont know if it was Pecos in Reeves County or the county of Pecos.

Do let me know about Peggy Lewis

Thanks

Frankie Guinle

My grandfather, Alva Paul Alexander was one of their younger sons. He married Mary Ray Henry in McLean, Texas and they had my mother, Sally Jo Alexander.
Hello. It is virtualy impossible to identify any members of the Rea Surname DNA Project simply by asking about specific ancestors. If you look on the "Lineages" page of that website you will see the names of some who have been identified by their descendants who are participating to see if you can identify any of them, but these are a very small fraction of all the thousands or more probably tens of thousands who have borne the name under one spelling or another.

J.H. Rhea KY Confederate soldier

Seeking information on this soldier who died in an epidemic that swept the 8th KY regiment camp in Hopkinsville during the winter of 1861-62. He was buried in the Potter's Field section of the city cemetery, along with 225 others, but many were said to have been exhumed later and re-buried by relatives in family burial grounds in the hometowns.

Does anyone have information on his family, hometown or final resting place?

My 2nd great grandfather John Rhea (1819-1900) married Mabel Patterson (1824-1906), I believe her to be the daughter of a James Patterson and Margaret Agnew. Both families lived in Franklin Co. Alabama in the early 1800's. I'm looking to find John Rhea's father, John S. Rhea born around 1799 in Tennessee then moving to Alabama. Any help would be appreciated.

I've been trying to look up info on some Rhea's and Spangler's. Not completely sure where to start, though.

So far I've got:

Clifford Rhea (b. 1866, d. 1921), who was married to Delia Donnovan (b. 1867, d. 1944). Children were Mary Rhea (b. 1903 - married Edwin Spangler) and Margaret Rhea (b. 1898).

Mary and Edwin's children are: Clifford Spangler (my grand father).

Im trying to get further back than Clifford Rhea, but I keep getting stuck. Also trying to fill in any missing or incorrect information.

Anything at all would be helpful. Im still new at all of this geneology stuff. Thanks so much!

How can I find out if anyone from the Louis Hamilton Ray family has done the DNA and also, if anyone from Soloman Ray family out of Itawamba, Miss. has done the DNA?

These two are very often found living close to each other , yet, that has not been evidence of them being related.

This would give lots of us Ray researchers some very important info. if these two lines would do a DNA.
I am female so I can't help and my family line is not a direct Ray. It is through Polleybird to the Simpson surname. Thank you.

I am searching for information on who Sarah M. Rhea's parents were. She was born in Rutherford NC in 1810, married Media (possibly spelled Meday or Meady) Jordon in Rutherford NC in 1829. They lived in Claiborne County, TN and then moved to Whitley County and Pulaski Counties in KY. Their children were John A. b.Nov. 2, 1830-NC, m.Elizabeth Hudson-Feb. 20, 1855, d. July 1, 1896-Whitley County, KY, William A., Sarah J., Margaret, Catherine, William, Barbara, and Lydia. Supposedly Sarah and Media both died in Whitley County,or most likely inPulaski County KY. I have not been able to find anything on Sarah's family. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi - does anyone know of a Rhea couple who were murdered, probably in the late 1920's, early 1930's? I'm not sure what state but it could have been Florida or Ohio. Estelle Bonita Rhea was their daughter and I believe they also had a son.
Estelle was my grandmother and she passed away in 2000, so I think she was born around 1925.
Moses Rhea

Moses Rhea wrote his will in 1766 in Amherst co Virginia. He mentioned sons Moses,William and Thomas. Some researchers say his son Moses went to Georgia in the 1790's and some researchers say his son Moses was the Moses Rhea that died in 1802 in Franklin co Va. Would anyone know? Thanks, Ross
