Seeking information on Saloma Rhinesmith, born about 1832, who married Levi B. Spickerman April 26, 1853 in Horseheads, Chemung Co,NY. I believe she is the "Silvina" Rhinesmith enumerated in the 1850 census in the household of Godfrey Rhinesmith in Southport, Chemung County, NY.

Hi, don't know if you're still here??? I have no information at all on Hannah Catherine Mathews who was my great great grandmother. She is a brick wall! I found a Hannah once living with other people but not sure if it was her and no further info. Perhaps she was an orphan. I was wondering if you are still here and if you were able to find anything about her?

Most of these folks with the exception of Mary Ellen, William and Blaine are my guys. Again, my Rhinesmith line descends from the immigrant Johannes Reinschmit(Reinschmidt) from Germany through his first born son Johannes Jr. born Germany. Do not have a Jacob in the flock, however. My Henry owned the Rhinesmith Hotel in Landisburg. My grandparents, John William Rhinesmith and Clara Clark Hays were born in Alinda, Spring, Perry County. If you need the info, I have an unbroken line back to old JR plus some background material. Barb Neff in Landisburg has a lot of info also.

Chuck Rhinesmith
tottka1@livingston.net

I would hazard a guess that all of the folks you mention are in my line too. The Rhinesmith(my preferred spelling) eminated from Johannes Reinschmit(Reinschmidt) b. 1728 Germany, emigrated on the Edinburgh landing in Philly Oct 2, 1753. He had many sons who, I am sure, founded their own lines. Mine comes through Johannes, Jr. the first born. Would be happy to compare notes with anyone interested. There is at least one source in Landisburg who has a wealth of info.

Chuck Rhinesmith
tottka1@livingston.net

To the best of my knowledge, the NJ Rhinesmiths stemmed from Barnevas Reinschmidt who came over from Germany to work in the iron mines. My Rhinesmith line comes from Johannes Reinschmidt who landed in Philly in 1753. Insofar as I know, there is no link between the two groups. Check the "Family Trees" button at the top of this page for more info on your line.

Chuck Rhinesmith

In 1930, Anna Haines (who had been married to Frank J. McGrath but was divorced from him by 1904), (may have said she was a widow), was living on Pierce St., Newark, Essex, NJ. In the household with here were Loretta, age 20; Rose, age 17; Louis, age 15; Helen, age 13; and Harry, age 11. All had the surname Rhinesmith and were listed as Anna's step-children. I have not been able to find them in any census prior to 1930. I have no idea who their parents were. Does anyone have any info that could help?

Alana Thevenet
Tampa, FL

While I have no connection to this line, I have followed it with some interest. My Rhinesmith line eminated from Johannes Reinsmith(Reinschmidt), b. 1727 Daaden, Westerwald, Palatinate, Germany, came over on the Edinburgh in 1753 and settled in Penns. I believe Barnavas(Barnabas) preceded him, however, the similarity in surnames always intrigued me - perhaps somehow related after all? Does anyone know Barney's point of origin? Was he part of the great Palatine emigration, too?

Good hunting

Chuck Rhinesmith
tottka1@livingston.net

If you are still actively researching this line, I may be of some assistance. If your line came from PA., we are probably related. The given name "John" is quite prevalent in my tree going clear back to 1728 with Johannes Reinschmit from Daaden, Germany.

Please contact me - tottka1@livingston.net

Chuck Rhinesmith

Most of us from the LeHigh/Perry/Northampton County area are descended from Johannes Reinschmit(Reinschmidt) b. Daaden, Rhineland Pfaltz, Germany in 1728. My branch comes through Johannes Jr. There were many sons and they sired several branchs of Rhinesmith. Would be happy to compare notes and share info as I have done considerable research into this line.

Chuck Rhinesmith
tottka1@livingston.net

I have been doing some research on the Rhinesmith or Rinesmith family. It seems to change every other census on how the name is spelled. I also found Harry D. Rhinesmith and Mary Ellen Stambaugh in the Zion Cemetery spelled Rhinesmith however, I have his parents as follows:

BIOGRAPHICAL INFO:

# HENRY RHINESMITH, came with his parents to Perry County from Lehigh County, Pa., when a small boy. He grew to manhood and learned weaving, at which he worked for a number of years, and afterwards became a farmer. He married Elizabeth Garber; their children were: Margaret (Mrs. Solomon Gutshall); John D., who died at the age of sixty-eight years; Elizabeth, who died single at the age of twenty-three; Susan (Mrs. Frederick Gutshall); David M.; Samuel, a resident of Blain; and William, of Carlyle, Ill., who are twins; Henry, of Jackson Township; and George, a dealer in tinware and stoves in Carlisle, Pa.Page: 1025 Date: 20 Mar 2005

RINESMITH,Henry Dec 25, 1847 55th year
wf.
Have been researching the Rhinesmith line for some years and, as a result, have amassed a fair database. My line comes from Johannes Reinschmit (various spellings) b. 1728 in Daaden, Rheinland/Pfaltz. Shipped over on the "Edinburgh" October 1753 to Philly. My grandparents both were born in Alinda, Spring, Perry, PA.
Willing to share info with any interested parties or distant cousins.

Chuck Rhinesmith
tottka1@livingston.net

I have hit a stone wall with the Rhinesmith's before Barney and Abigail (Bugsbee). I have at least seen their grave stones in Pompton Lakes. And speaking of Stones, I'm related to them also (from Stonetown). Another Stone Wall!
I've been trying to get in touch with RHaycock, but no luck. Please contact me!

Right under the Rootsweb logo at the top of the page should appear a string of buttons starting with "home, searches and then "Family Trees". If not there, you will surely find it on the Rootsweb home page. Have also found numerous refs to Banabas at the LDS site. My ancestor, Johannes apparently came from Daaden in the Westerwalt area of Deutschland. He came over on the Edinburgh in 1753. Barney may have arrived at about the same time. Believe both he and Barney were Palatines.

Chuck

I am a direct decendant of Barney, grew up in Stonetown, NJ, visited the graves of his grandson (son of John) and wife, Barnabas and Abigail Buckbee Rhinesmith in July, while on visit to NJ. Would love to be able to obtain info on when Barney came to America, etc.
Lois

Hi,
Sorry,I have no info on Jacob, however, I am looking for info on Barnevas Rhinesmith. He is my 8xg grandfather. I was born and grew up in Stonetown. I am from the Midvale/Ringwood/West Milford Rhinesmith's. The info I have, which isn't verified, has Barnevas born about 1709, immigrating from Germany about 1740, with his son John, born about 1733 and Barnevas death in 1807 in Stonetown, Midvale/Ringwood NJ. However, John had a son Barnabas, born in 1798, and several children after him, which would make John over sixty when he was having his children. Do you have what age Barnevas was when he immigrated from Germany? I feel the dates I have are incorrect. Do you have any other info on Barnevas and his wife and children? Thanks in advance for your help with this,
Lois

Hi thanks for replying. My wifes grandfather was close to Gene, if thats the correct spelling, but he passed away last year and told my wifes grandfather that he had a Bible or book for him containing some information on his family. I am just trying to get with someone who may have found this book and can help. Her grandfathers last name is Shearer and he is in Pennsylvania. If you have any contact to your family that may know of this book I would appreciate it if you could contact me so that I may contact her grandfather so that he may take a look at it or acquire it if it truly belongs to him. Thanks again
Hi Marian! Many thanks for the tip and the info. Those dates I do not have and didn't expect to find easily. Peggy/Margaret is a major person in myh line and her death date is an important piece of info. I think Barney was her uncle, or her brother?, and it's from his line that the Collins factor comes in. I have a fair amount of info at home on the early Rhinesmiths - Barnevus, John, Barney - mostly dates/spouses/children. I could have more on them but once Peggy died, that's the end of my interest in the family. I also have a little bit of info that might be controversial - the "legend" that Barnevus came over with "Lord Erskine" to work the iron mines. I can steer you in the direction of the historical society that has evidence that would refute it. Also, do you have anything on Barnevus such as his wife's name or his immigration info?
Please contact me email and we can compare notes a bit more freely. I'd like a copy of that extract, or of the full Bible entries if you have it. I'll be glad to trade what I have on them - some from living relatives, some is part of the "legend" and some from other web researchers.
ALso, I notice you are looking at STONE in that area. I have a Stone line that's been very difficult to find info on. I can give you the later confirmed info if it's part of your line. My earliest semi-verified person is Benjamin Stone, born circa 1800. His son was William, who married Sarah Eldridge(?) and they lived in the Harmony Twp NJ area. Their son, Thomas Benton Stone (born 1853), is my grandfather. I know that Stonetown was in the Ringwood area where the Rhinesmiths lived. Have wondered if that was where they came from.
My email is rhaycook@mitre.org ----- looking forward to hearing from you.
