Wm & Orilla Rice moved to Onieda County from Berkshire Co, MA sometime between 1825-1830 when their dtr was born in Boonville. Henry here is oldest son of the above couple. Who did your William marry?

I would be interesting in corresponding with you please, if you think there is the remotest possibility of this being the same family. Buried in the Northrop Cemetery, Avon Twp., Rock Co, WI beside Elanson Ward, born 1797, d. 1852, father-in-law to the 2nd son of the above Wm & Orilla, is a tombstone for a "Hannah". It is broken off and we have no idea of a last name, nor who she is, or if she is related.

Interesting coicidence possibly. I don't know if there was a Daniel Rice in Rock Co; however, I certainly could look.

Your family sounds almost too late for mine, as your Abner, Sr. would be comtemporary, as in a possible brother, to my older Wm Rice. It would be a generation too late to be the same Wm. We can talk anyway.

Please contact me @ corlissbss@aol.com

Thanks!

Could you give a time-frame for your Rice families in Oneida County? My Abner Rice and his family moved to Turin about 1797. I've been able to trace Abner Jr. to St. Lawrence County, but not sons William and Daniel, or daughter Hannah. Any information would be helpful. Abner Rice is a descendant of Deacon Edmund Rice of Sudbury and Marlborough, Mass.

Kitten,
Your William H. Rice was the son of Thomas W. Rice. See the 1850 Knox County, TN Census and 1860 Jefferson County, TN Census. Thomas W. Rice appears to have been the son of Presley Rice b. 1770 in Granville County, NC. Presley appears in the 1850 Census of Jefferson County, TN. Presley m. Agnes Bledsoe in 1799 in Wake County, NC. Presley appeared in the 1800 Census of Wake County, NC. The documentation is not 100% proven, but Presley appears to have been the son of Thomas Rice d. abt. 1802 in Granville County, NC. Thomas appears to have been the son of Zorababel Rice. Zorababel also had a son named John Rice whose Revolutionary War Pension app stated he was born in Westmoreland County, VA. The name Zorababel runs in the line of the John Rice of Nomini, Westmoreland County, VA who d. there in 1696 who immigrated from Wales in 1655.
Martha

My grandfather is Jay Howard Jay Rice (or Howard Jay Rice). Your grandfather and my grandfather were brothers, so we are distant cousins. We were all from Oneida County (I was born in Boonville, and my grandfather is buried there). My mother is Janet Rice Denslow, and still lives in Boonville.

I have information on Rhoda Elizabeth Wells who married Nathan Rice. She may have been his 3rd wife. His first wife was Frances Young.
The parents of Rhoda Elizabeth Wells Rice were Michael Wells (b abt 1825 TN.) and Rhoda Elizabeth Honea (b abt 1827 AL.) They were married 14 Jan 1846 in Madison Co. AL.
Their children were:
Rhoda E. b abt 1847 AL. m Natha Rice
John b abt 1857 MO. m Perlina Ladyman
Angeline b 1855 MO m James Rickman
George b abt 1859 MO.
Vincent b abt 1860 MO.

Michael Wells served in the MO. Home Guard in Stone Co. MO. and died there.
Elizabeth Honea Wells then married William Gaines 2 Dec 1866 in Randolph Co. AR. They moved to Moore twp Oregon Co. MO.
Elizabeth Honea Wells Gaines and George Wells, Angelina Wells and Vincent Wells were living with William Gaines and his children in 1870.Rhoda Elizabeth was already married to Nathan Rice. Elizabeth Honea Wells Gaines had two more children, Charles Gaines b 1867 and Joseph Gaines b 1869.
Apparently Elizabeth Honea Wells Gaines died before 1873 because William Gaines married Malinda Wells Ridel (Riddle), sister in law of Elizabeth 30 Nov 1873 in Randolph Co. AR.
Malinda Wells Riddle is my ancestor.

Noreen Shelton H.shelton@comcast.net
Rachel, I want to thank you for replying to my message. I wish I could shed more light on Elizabeth, but I only have what was recorded on the Crews Family History. The family history says Elizabeth's daughter, Mary Delaney Rice, had two half brothers: Jerry Fair Pilgrim and William Marion Pilgrim, and two half sisters: Rhoda Pilgrim Warren and Elizabeth Ann Pilgrim Posey.

Elizabeth married Matthew Josiah Rice sometime in the 1850's and two children were born, Mary in 1857 and J.V. in 1862. Something happened to the marriage in 1862 or 1863. It's possible that Matthew Rice was killed during the Civil War, (if he enlisted) and Elizabeth married Jeremiah Pilgrim shortly after.

Elizabeth's children, Mary and J.V., appear on the 1870 and 1880 census under the household of Matthew and Rhonda Narcissa Rae (Wray) Partridge as "orphans". The kids occupations were farm labor. Could it be possible that, or do you know if, Rhonda and Elizabeth were sisters?

The Crews history shows Elizabeth's last name spelled Rae. I have been unable to find anything on Matthew Rice. I plan to visit the National Archives in Atlanta, Georgia in hopes of finding additional information. I'll let you know if I'm successful.

You can find it by typing in Elizabeth Ann Rice Wray. She passed away in 1867 probably from complications from childbirth.

Elizabeth Ann Wray Rice Pilgrim was my gg grandmother, she died 9 days after giving birth to my g grandmother, Elizabeth Ann (Bettie) Pilgrim Posey. I think this was 1869. I think she is buried at Phillips Cemetery, Neshoba CO, MS. Bettie is buried at Spring Hill Cemetery, Neshoba Co., MS. I have wondered for many years why Elizabeth had Rice in her name & wondered if she had a previous marriage. I have always seen her listed as Elizabeth Ann Rice Wray. She was Jeremiah Fair Pilgrim's second wife. I have not been able to find out any information about her.

The surname is also common in North-East Ireland as an Anglicised contraction of the Irish ''Ó Maolchraoibhe'' (pron. O''Mulcreevy), though the two sets of Rices are not connected. Recent genetic evidence has shown that the surname also arose independently in southeastern England among those with non-Celtic ancestry.

Albert E. Rice, Lt.
We‘ve found additional background on the Rice surname we’d like to share with you.

Rice is a surname that originated in Wales as an Anglicised transliteration of Rhys.

Albert E. Rice, Lt.
Innigration Records Rice

Immigration Records
Anyone with European bloodlines is descended, at least in part, from immigrants. Looking back generations, we’re almost certain to encounter one. From the colonial period onward, waves of immigrants have traveled to the United States searching for a better life, and prosperity. In the 17th and 18th centuries, historians estimate nearly one million immigrants crossed the Atlantic Ocean, settling in Colonial America—including more than 175,000 Englishmen. Millions of Europeans immigrated to the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries; 30 million from 1836 to 1914 alone.

Before the 1930s, ship was the only viable mode of transport before trans-Atlantic flight was possible. Ship passenger lists therefore provide information we can use to find out more about where our ancestors came from, and tell us about their voyage. You may learn your ancestor’s place of birth, the ship name, their age, height, eye and hair color, and profession, to name a few.

A quick search reveals that Rices were among the millions that immigrated to the U.S. over the past several centuries.

•Immigration Records: 434 Rices found
http://www.archives.com/member/Default.aspx?_act=Immigration...
