Hi there Bill,
Hope you're doing well! I cant beleive its been so long!! Yes there were a lot of umbrella makers in the Rickards family (for about 100 years I think) and before that there were some tent makers! I too lost a lot of my info, but making my way through it again, I'll get there eventually - I hope!
Jules

Hi Julie;
I had a dialogue with you way back in 2003 i believe-
under the handle "Mithandrir"
Anyhow i just happened to punch in Ada Rickards into google and saw your 2005 reply for the first time.
What intrigues me to write is that my G-grandfather "Henry Gower" (married to Ada Rickards) had an umbrella shop in Regents Park.
I have lost my old geneology program and have never got back into it. I am though still quite interested.
Does sound like we are some kind of cousins regardless.
Have you found anything else since?
Thanks for your research.
Bill Fedoriuk
http://www.hawknowl.com
My great-grandmother was Mary Ellen Rickards, daughter of James and Mary Jane. She was dark-complected, like her native roots. Her son, Roy, was my grandfather, also tall and dark. Mary E carried some family names on in the naming of her children: Albert, Mary, Grace, George.

Wow then we are second cousins! My Father, Donald Alexander Murray
Laird is the son of Anne Laird (née Rickards) and Thomas Laird! Who is your Mom?? Is it Maureen (aka Pat?) if it is I remember her very well!! I also recall Aunt Agnes!!! She was a wee thing with the pointy rhinestone glasses!! I recall Aunt Grace and Aunt Agnes used to bicker like crazy too!! They always made me feel loved and happy!!! I had my first child in 1993 and Aunt Grace passed away January before my daughter was born. It was so sad to me because I wanted to get them in pictures together with my Dad so that I would have 4 generations in one picture! Aunt Graces ashes were spread on Aunt Agnes' rose garden in Victoria!
I have the family tree up on here, although I don't know if you can see it or not! (I am on my phone so I cannot scroll back but you were correct in your spelling!! It was Isabella Ann Rickards!!)
What's your name? If you prefer you can email me cathaarineonly1 at aol . com

I know one of the sisters was very European looking. My grandmother was Agnes and yes, James Newman Rickards was my great-grandfather. His wife was Isabella Murray, whose grandfather came over as physician to Lord Selkirk and whose dad was a member of the Manitoba legislature (I believe there is a portrait of him there). The Rickards first came to Canada around 1835, with James Newman Rickards I coming on a York Factor flatboat to train the colony militia - he was a Chelsea pensioner. Isabella's parents (Letitia Flett Murray and James Murray) both signed the Red River settlement document entitling them to Hudson Bay scrip dollars and pieces of land.

Molton Rickards of Delaware

Does anyone know who the parents or siblings were of :
Molton Rickards b.abt 1819 Delaware, married Elizabeth Susan Tarbutton (a widow) Feb 8 1848 in Kent Delaware.
On the 1850 Delaware census,he is listed as "Nolton" Rickards. Elizabeths' 'Tarbutton' children live with them along with son Daniel Rickards age 1.
On the 1860 he is listed as "Melton Richards". They live in Appoquinimink, One Hundred, Delaware. With them is my relative, Jonathan Rickards age 14.( She has a son Edward Tarbutton age 13, living with them so I know Jonathan is not their son).( I believe my Jonathan's parents died 1850-1860)
"Molten" Rickards Civil War draft records ( 1863-65) states on July 1 1863 he is 44. Married, born Delaware and lives in East Duck Creek One Hundred, Delaware. He was a private in the Delaware Co F, 6th infantry regiment.
On the 1870 Molton and Elizabeth have sons Molton age 18 and Edward age 22 living with them.
I would like to pinpoint his birth family to find out if he is an uncle to my Jonathan. This could help me prove Jonathan's parents. Thanks- Diane

I am trying to get this Bible into the right hands, Not looking to make money off it just trying to recoup what I have invested into it. $85.00 would cover all including shipping. There is a Marriage Cert. in it for Absalom and Nancy Pickard and a Family Register for them. They had 7 children. Julia Ann, Mary Jane, Henry Harrison, Simeon Jefferson, Nancy Maria, Emma Adella, Ida Ansalia. This has their dates of birth, marriage and death. Also on the register there is a very nice picture of Absalom and Nancy. The earliest date on these papers is 1815. the Bible it self is dated 1869 If anyone is interested in it Please email me at msslaton4556@yahoo.com Thank you

Rickards of Delaware

I have an odd brick wall:
On the 1850 Appoquinimink Hundred,New Castle, Delaware census
James"Richards" ( it IS Rickards on the census)age 37 b.Del
Eliza A. age 23 b. Del
Jonathan age 5 b.Del
I am sure these are my ancestors. However they do not exist as a unit on the 1860 census.
Jonathan seems to be living with:
"Melton" "Richards" b. 1821 Del (Milton/Nolton Rickards)
Elizabeth S b.1815 Maryland
Her children have the last name Tarbutton,so she is likely remarried to Nolton Rickards. They do have one son Nolton/Melton Rickards age 1.

This same Nolton Rickards family is on the 1850 Appoquinimink Hundred,Del census:
Nolton Rickards age 30 b Del
Elizabeth age 34 b.Maryland
Jane Tarbutton age 11
William J Tarbutton age8
Edward Tarbutton age 6
Daniel Rickards age 1
But there is not a Jonathan Rickards living with them then.

So my question is , what happened to Jonathan Rickards birth family and who was Milton/ Nolton Rickards to Jonathan ( his uncle???)
Does anyone connect into this Rickards family??? Thanks- D Diane

Samuel David Rickards was my great-grandfather. My grandfather, Ernest Herbert, was brother to Frederick Thomas who emigrated to Australia and had two sons, Arthur Ellors and Clive Harold. I believe that Clive Beresford was probably your father and therefore my second cousin. I have a wealth of information on the Rickards family tree. If you would like to contact me via my email address (moleshome@tiscali.co.uk) I am happy to correspond independently of the message boards.
Juliet (nee Rickards)

Hi, I am researching the Rickard family descended from George Henry Rickards of London, England. In particular the family of his son Uriel Wickliffe Rickards who married Charlotte Noke. Do you have any information about these families and their origins that may be of use? Thanks, Jacqui

Rickard: Jacob, Cynthia, Lorenzo Henry, Catharine, Decatur, Albert Jasper. Augusta, Helen, Lorenzo, Rudolpho

I'm going to start a new post because every single Rickard thread I find has nothing to do with my line, but maybe someone has a connection and can help me out? I sure hope so.

I have a Jacob Rickard, born in VT abt. 1793 to a Cynthia born in NY also abt. 1793. They had Lorenzo Henry Rickard born in either NY or Penn. He married Catherine DePue (her father was of French descent) born in Canada, and they had the following children: Decatur, Albert Jasper, Augusta, Helen (all born in Ohio), Rudolpho and Lorenzo (both born in Wisconsin). I believe the tale of Augusta, WI being named after "the prettiest little girl in town" was indeed true and named after this daughter Augusta. They lived in Oak Grove in 1855 a year before Augusta was named in 1856. It was said she was visiting from Oak Grove. There were other Rickards in Bridge Creek who they may have been visiting.

The family later settled in MI. Pipestone, Berrien, first and then Hope, Barry, later. Albert Jasper married Amanda Smith in Carlton, Barry. Lorenzo and Rudolpho later lived with Albert's daughter Geneva Rickard Glockzin and her husband Lewis Glockzin in Pine Township, Montcalm in 1920. Geneva's sister Rosa is living with them also. Rosa was first married to Frank Sholes and then to Michael Kirsten. Albert and Amanda are both buried in Stanton, Montcalm as is Decatur. Lorenzo Rickard is buried in Brush Ridge Cemetery in Hope Township, Barry.

There were other Rickards in these townships - a John, Henry and Charles who I think might be relations. Lorenzo Henry and Catharine lived "next door" to Charles Rickard in 1880 in Hope Township. He was young enough to be a son or nephew to Lorenzo.

Hi there

I have Rickards ancestors from the Ludlow area. My grandfather was George Henry RICKARDS b 1897 Ludlow, son of George b c 1870 ? (m Elizabeth WARD in Hereford), son of Thomas. The only real evidence I have on Thomas is from the marriage cert. of his son, George b c 1870 on which he is identified as tailor, deceased. I suspect that he may be the son of John RICKARDS from Culmington as he was also a tailor but cannot prove this connection. George b c 1870 was involved in the mining industry and died in Burghill Mental Hospital sometime before Dec 1944, when his body was removed to Hereford cemetery by my great aunt. Do we have a connection?

Kind regards
Rosemary

We have been unable to find out who his parents and siblings were, and would be very grateful if you are able to help us at all.

All the best

Jane Gilliver
Jonathan RICKARDS

Hi, I am aware of the Jonathan Rickards you are talking about. I have no direct proof of a connection but I think he could be the son of the first marriage of Phillip Rickards. I have him as one of possiblly three brothers william, george and jonathan. Phillip then married a Rebecca Perry and had more children. If this rings true to any info you have then I have more info on his second marriage.
