You are probably correct about Adam's wife being Bennett but Carter is what I'd been told.

Elizabeth Gilmore (2 Dec.1817-1 Mar.1866), daughter of John Gilmore & Elizabeth Neilly, married a neighbour William Gilmore (10 Sept.1807-14 Apr.1888), son of William Gilmore & Nancy Johnston, and had 11 children: Thomas, William Johnston, Samuel*, James, John, Mary, Elizabeth Jane, Nancy, Anne, Louisa, Susanna.

Samuel* Gilmore (1843-1927) married Mary Jane Cook.

thanks for your quick reply. I have never had such conversation about this genealogy, so it is very exciting. I must disagree with your saying Adam Boyle Gilmore was married to Hannah Carter because I have several photos of Adam and Hannah Bennett, with Hannah Bennett written on them by someone in the family. Also, don't you think it is interesting they named one of their daughters Mary Bennett Gilmore?
I am ready to accept what you say about John Gilmore's parents because I added that from an online tree just last night. However, I need more information. Are you saying that Samuel Gilmore who married Mary Jane Cook and was born 1843 is the son of Elizabeth Gilmore and William Gilmore? Do you know where this William Gilmore fits in the genealogy? Its not the first time I have seen cousins marry, but I am wondering who this William's parents are
Will take a while to digest your post (many thatnks) but can quickly fill in a few details-
Adam Boyle Gilmore born 16 Dec.1836 at Boveedy.
I have wife's name as Hannah Carter.
Adams and Hannah had 10 children as far as I know (not in birth order)- Ena (m. Cross), Mary Bennett, Hannah, William, Anna Lee, Ida May, Thomas West, Charles Stewart & 2 others.

John Gilmore born c1790 died 26 Jan.1867 lived at Blackrock, Boveedy. His 1st wife Elizabeth Neilly died cAug.1825 (children: Alexander, Elizabeth, Thomas, Jane, Rosa Ann, Samuel). He m.2nd Jane "Jinnie" Blair (c1797-21 Mar.1874)- children: Mary, Anne/Nancy, John, William, James Blair, Adam Boyle, Joseph Dickey.

From the details passed down through the family John Gilmore's mother was Michael and she was supposed to have lived until she was 100. I have seen at least 1 online family tree that gives John's parents as Samuel and Mary Jane (Cooke) Gilmore but this is incorrect (think Martha Gilmore Robinson's notes were responsible for this error). The Samuel Gilmore who married Mary Jane Cook was born 1843 and was a grandson of John & Elizabeth (Neilly) Gilmore- his parents Elizabeth Gilmore & William Gilmore.

My mother, Cecille Marie Ricketts Holmes b 1923 Grants Pass, Oregon d 25 dec 1981 Virginia Beach,VA, was the only child of William Cecil Ricketts 06 Sep 1889 Manor, Cark Co., Washington d 11 Mar 1957 El Paso, Texas and Lucille Robinett Sale (Sail)b 1900. William Cecil and Lucille divorced when my mother was 2 years old. My mother grew up in the home on Esther St. Vancouver with her father and grandmother, Minnie Gilmore. Her grandmother did not allow my mother to see her mother, so I know very little about her, not even the exact spelling of her name. I do have a copy of a very interesting article that was in the newspaper entitled "Visiting Around" by Clark Brown. Unfortunately, the article was clipped from the paper without the header, so do not know which paper this appeared in or when. But it is quite long and describes an interview the writer did with Minnie Gilmore on her 80th birthday, which I guess would mean the article was written in 1945. It notes the passage from Sydney Australia and the farm in Manor Washington.
As for the Ricketts, I have been able to trace the family to Maryland and beyond. The first immigrant came to America from England, Thomas Anthony Ricketts b 1659 England, d 30 Apr 1722, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. If you want the whole genealogy from Thomas to William Cecil, perhaps you could send your email and I will send it.
Also note: William Cecil Ricketts' father James Monroe Ricketts b 12 Apr 1865, d 06 Sep 1928 Manor, Clark Co., Washington. mother: Mary "Minnie" B. Gilmore as noted. sister: Bessie Ethel Ricketts 21 May 1891, married Harvey Albrecht Altnow but they divorced before having children.

He crops up on the census in various years and as far as I can tell never married or had children.

I know that's no major help but you can eliminate him from searche results.

Cheers,
Henry

I'm also trying to figure out whether I have the correct lineage. I have John Ricketts born about 1765 in Westmoreland County, PA and dying in 1848 in Fleming County, KY. I show him marrying Mary Ann Polly Smith about 1785. I show Edward, Elizabeth, Mary, Margaret and John being born in PA. I then have Jane, Nancy, and Rebecca born in Kentucky.

Based on other lines I've researched, the Maryland --> Pennsylvania --> Kentucky route is a possibility.

Today, I was going thru old research and updating my documentation. In the book, 'Garret Larew, Civil War Soldier' the author has John as the son of Edward Ricketts and Margaret Powell. He shows John being born in 1752 and dying in 1844.

Help in figuring out the correct lineage would be appreciated!

John Ricketts

Looking for information on John Ricketts (b. @ 1757), father of Edward Ricketts (m. Sarah Story), father of James M. (m. Ellen Jones), father of John (m. Carrie Shriner), father of James Garrett (m. Nellie Louise Sipe).

All of the information I have found lists him as the son of Cheney Ricketts but I have conflicting information. The book "Biographical and genealogical history of Cass, Miami, Howard and Tipton counties, Indiana" states that John was from Westmoreland County, PA and moved with his parents to Kentucky (Fleming County I believe) at about the age of 9 months. The info I have seen on Cheney says he lived in MD and died in OH, so it would be unlikely that he is actually John's father, if the book is to be trusted at all. The book also states that they are of Scots descent.

Thanks!

RICKETTS Edward "Rick" 1948-2011 b Coshocton, Ohio

MIDLAND, TX: Edward W. "Rick" Ricketts was born on June 15, 1948 in Coshocton, Ohio to Hazel and Edward Ricketts. He passed away September 15, 2011.

He graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1966. Rick received his Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science in geology from Ohio University, the first of his family to earn a college degree.
In his subsequent career as a geologist he worked with multiple firms, and had recently formed his own company, Bobcat Exploration.

Rick and Kay Deibel, high school sweethearts in Ohio , married after graduating from college in 1970. When Rick joined the US Army as a surveyor, the devoted couple lived in Germany and took the opportunity to travel throughout Europe

While in Germany, Rick discovered the tradition of putting a pickle in a Christmas tree, a custom he and Kay continued at home. Both Rick and Kay were enthusiastic celebrators of Christmas, and one could always find that pickle in one of the many trees Rick put up for Kay during the holidays. Rick continued to thoroughly decorate the house for Christmas after Kay's death.

Rick had a strong sense of community. He and Kay shared their home with friends and their children when they needed a place to stay. They were active in the Roundtable Sunday School Class at the First Methodist Church in Midland, Texas

Rick also loved home improvement projects, enthusiastically remodeling their home for Kay and helping his daughter Tracy with her house. His love of building and sense of service led Rick to participate in Christmas in Action where groups of people collaborate to help improve the homes of people in need. For thirty-six years he replaced roofs, walls, doors, and windows with the Roundtable Class, and served on the organization's board of directors.

Rick loved travel, and one of his ambitions was to explore all fifty states in the US . He recently visited his 48th and 49th states, South and North Dakota, where he enjoyed seeing The Badlands, Mount Rushmore, and Devil's Tower. He had yet to go to Delaware.

Rick was preceded in death by his father Edward Ricketts, mother Hazel Ricketts Wigfield, step-father Paul Wigfield, and his wife Kay Deibel Ricketts.

Rick is survived by his daughter Tracy Ricketts, granddaughter Elliott Kay Avery, and his cousin Dave Ricketts.

Funeral services will be held at Renner's United Church of Christ, Fresno, Ohio, Wednesday, September 28th. Calling hours, 10:30 a.m. Service, 11:30 a.m.

Published in the Coshocton Tribune from September 25 to September 27, 2011

Hello Jim,

I am Linda, daughter of Virginia and LeRoy Ricketts of Indiana. This is my first effort at a genealogy search and I am warmed to see that my late brother, Victor Cromwell, posted a message to you back in 2006. He passes away that same year.
LeRoy's father was Jim, mother Litisha. They are from the Evansville, KY area. Dad said the city of his upbringing was Ashire, IN which he said was near the state line. I don't know Litisha's maiden name. Jim Ricketts had a brother also named Jim, they were called Big Jim and Lil Jim. I believe my grandfather Jim was a coal miner. I have seen pictures of him in a miner's helmet, I believe he worked the mines in KY. My father LeRoy, was a baseball player during the time of the Negro Leagues. He was a pitcher, a 'lefty'. He played with Satchel Pages and others but to my knowledge he was never on a league team but played the pick up games on the 'chittlin circuit'.
LeRoy had a brother, Cromwell, after whom my brother Victor was named. I am anxious to hear back from you and will continue to research my family tree in hopes that our collaboration will produce some informative results. LeRoy was married to Virginia (Fitts) Ricketts and together they had 9 children: Victor, Lerona, Michael, Anita, Jacquline, James, Darlene, Sharon and me, Linda.

DeLynn Decker to ricketts
show details 6:56 AM (2 minutes ago)

Hello, I am trying to learn if Abel Ricketts lived next door to a sister in the 1850 census for District 2, Monroe, Tennessee. Sarah Camlee (Chamlee) had son Adniron Judson, who is my great, great grandfather. We cannot find his family beyond his mother Sarah, who was a widow in 1850. There is another son whose middle name was Ricketts, which makes me think it might have been her maidenname. Do not have her husband's name or anything earlier. Know she was born 1794 in North Carolina. If you can shed any light on this, please let me know. Thank you.

My great-grandmother was Lillie Ricketts (b. around 1878 in England), married to Andrew Diehlman in 1901 in Ohio, then divorced in 1902-1904. Next she married a David Milne in Canada while listing that she lived in NJ at that time. I have hit a major roadblock. When she was married to Andrew, they had my grandmother, Marie.

Please let me know if you have any information or need further information on her parentage. I have found differing info, but the parents listed on the marriage certificate to my g-grandfather are Thos Ricketts and Anna Mueteboyd.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Pam Brown
