Hi Thank you for the response. I would absolutely like some info to help get me past my dead end on my research of Desire Rider's parents and grandparents. Anything I can get would be helpful. There are many inconsistincies with this line. Starting from the 1st immigrant (Samuel) and his spouse or spouses down to his grandchildren's parents and spouses and children. I gues where they settled the records weren't kept very well.

I personally would consider donating it to the genealogical room of the library of the area in which they lived. This way any and all ancestors in the future can have access to the information. If you were to give it to me, for example, it would be in my personal library or closet and not available to future researchers.

Thanks for the offer. These things are treasures and should be protected for future generations.

Jim

Desire Rider

I am looking for information on the parents and grandparents of Desire Rider who married Thomas Goodwin
I believe her grandparents were Joseph Rider and Abigale Warren. It is possible that her parents are Joseph Jr. and Crosman. However in The Mayflower Descendant, 1930 By Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants Staff pg.35
Plymouth, Ma. Vital Records volume 27 pg. 178. It states Joseph sr. married Crosman in 1740. I have many problems with that. First of all Abigale was still alive in 1740 and Abigale was considered the widow of Joseph both on her gravestone and in a will of Capt. Benjamin Warren it lists his daughter as a widow. His will,* executed 8 May, 1745. Also in the will of Abigale's granfather Ephraim Morton she is called a widow. Plymouth records give Abigale's husband - Joseph Rider a death date of 1737. So it impossible for him to marry Elizabeth crosman 3 years after his death.
They had sons William, Joseph 1729, Benjamin 1733 and Tilden 1736. I would assume Joseph Jr. as the husband of Elizabeth Crosman and the father of Desire, however I ran into research that Joseph died young. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I have searched and come up empty.

Unlikely.

When you look at US census returns, you will discover that in the 1840 there was a Thomas J Rider and family enumerated in Bath Co, Virginia. On the same page you will find William J Rider, son of James and Sarah (Chestnut), and his brother-in-law, Charles Callahan. This Thomas J Rider is almost certainly a brother of William J.

In the census of 1850, this Thomas J is no longer found in Bath Co, but the return for Center Twp, McHenry Co, Illinois, that year has a Thomas J Rider, 38 years old, born in Va, with wife and seven children all born in same. Again, this is almost certainly Thomas, son of James and Sarah (Chestnut) Rider.

There is no record of a Callahan marrying Thomas Rider in Bath Co.

Larry's Thomas Rider was, in my opinion, probably a son of Richard Rider of Greenbrier Co, but we are still searching for proof.
