He later married Lillian Hahn in Ohio.Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree.Hope you might help. Thanks so much, Vicki

She was of Derbyshire. I found a very good write up from 1844 regarding her. She and her husband JOhn Lynam immigrated to Pennsylvania and she died shortly thereafter in Philadelphia. Letters from her ministry as a Quaker missionary survived and many are printed in the article.

I have not been able to find much information on her line + I have seen the confusing Ridge listings in the Census and also elsewhere. It seems like one brother moved North to the other end of the county (above what is today called Lake Nockamixon). Please share any information you come across.

What is going on with all the mixed up records with this Ridge family in the late 1700's through late 1800's in Bensalem, PA? There seems to be many descendants tied into this line, and I know there was a lot of repeating names through the generations, but I have become so confused on where to start and end. It just depends on whose tree i look at on ancestry.com.

Does anyone have a well-sourced Ridge data set? My GG-Grandmother is Sarah Elizabeth Ridge (b May 1858 d unk.). I descend from her 1st marriage to Harry C Ellis (later married a Johnathan Richard Naylor).

Thanks in advance if anyone can help!

If would seem our NSW Richard 's parents were not James Ridge /Mary Randall unless there were two marriages of similiarly named couples that had a son Richard. It did seem odd that our Richard ( sometimes recorded as Richard Blythe Ridge ) was born c. 1766 and the Richard Ridge married to Mary Randall was born c. 1750 ( i.e. a pretty young dad). It would however seem our Richard's near family had a James as his first two sons were named Thomas and James ( James Bligh , named for Governor William Bligh whom the Hawkesbury settlers rallied behind after the Rum rebellion, and my Great Great grandfather ).
Any information regarding Richards , James' or Thomas' in the Ridge family from Sussex pre 1791 gratefully received !!

hi

As Richard Ridge (son of James and Mary Randall) was still living in England in 1841 I do not think he is the one who was transported to Australia. It is possible that there is a link but I do not think he has been identified correctly. There are Ridges throughout the UK although it is not a particularly common name. My grandmother Edith Ridge was a direct descendant of Drew and Alice Ridge of Horsham.
Kath A

I am a great x3 grandson of Richard (Blythe ?)Ridge born c. 1766 in Middlesex a son of James Ridge ( Born c. 1750 )and Mary Randall of Horsham, Sussex . Richard was transported ( after being sentenced for 7 years for a reasonably insignificant and questionable theft ) to Australia in 1791 ; freed by servitude and established a family and farming business on the Hawkesbury River near Windsor NSW. I am keen to trace his English ancestry , having , between family members , recorded his descendents largely in Australia..... can any Sussex Ridges enlighten me ?!

There is certainly a lack of information about Richard Ridge's origins. Nothing much on the convict sites, and nothing on the Old Bailey transcripts, other than he was looking for work.
I read about Horsham on another researcher's site many years ago - but no verification was noted there.
Have reread all my notes and the best I can deduce is that he was between 76 and 78 at his death in 1842- birth about 1764-66.
Sandie

Thank you for this information - another cousin found! I am the person who posts a lot of information about William Penn Cemetery in Findagrave. I have many relatives buried there.

I'm sure the Valarius you mention is the same person even though his grave marker says he died in 1881 at age 63. I will plug him (and Samuel) into my database as sons of Amos and Jane. I knew about Samuel but had no idea who his parents were.

I believe that Hiram Ridge (1819 - 1874) was the son of Daniel Ridge (1787 - 1833)) and Rachel (Staats) Ridge (1792 - 1863). My source for this is a short bio about Hiram's nephew Lloyd Ridge on page 585 of "History of Bucks County Pennsylvania" by William W. H. Davis (c. 1905). This bio mentions the family lineage and says that Daniel and Rachel had the following children: Jonathan, William W., Hiram, James, Charles, Elizabeth (wife of Spencer Tomlinson), Emeline (wife of John Comly), and Daniel. This book was formerly available through a Google Books search but apparently page 585 is no longer available that way. Please let me know if you would like a copy of that page.

I ran across Valarius Ridge, b. 1823-d. 1850. in a family tree. His parents were noted as Amos Ridge b. 1789 in PA, d. 1865 Bensalem Twp, Bucks Co, PA; Jane Maiden b. 1789 PA, d. 1861 Bensalem Twp. His siblings wer Samuel Ridge b. 1803 Bensalem Twp; Mary Ridge b. 1827 Bensalem Twp; Joseph Ridge b. 1831 Bensalem Twp; Caroline Ridge b. 1833 Bensalem Twp. I was looking for the parents of Hiram Ridge b. 1819 Penn, d. 1871 Bensalem Twp, who married Harriet W. Hodgson 1834-1865. Amos & Jane Ridge were supposed to be his parents, but I don't know for sure. Parents of Amos Ridge were listed as Thomas Ridge b. 14 Dec 1727, Bensalem Twp, d. 1813 & Rachel Duncan b. 14 Oct 1737 Bensalem Twp, d. 13 Sept 1818, Bensalem Twp. Still trying to check out this information but maybe it will help you. Are you the Wm Ridge who posts so much information on the Wm Penn Cemetery?

Re: Major Ridge

Assassination
In the West, the Ross faction blamed Ridge and the other signers of the Treaty of New Echota for the hardships of removal. In June 1839, Major Ridge, his son John, and nephew Elias Boudinot, were assassinated by Cherokees of the Ross faction to remove them as political rivals and to intimidate the political establishment of the Old Settlers, which the Ridge faction had joined. Among Ridge's killers was Bird Doublehead whose father, Chief Doublehead, had been slain by Major Ridge. Another killer was Bird's half-brother, James Foreman, who was in turn killed in 1842 by Stand Watie. Watie was Ridge's nephew and brother of Elias Boudinot, and later a Confederate general in the Civil War. Watie had been targeted for assassination in 1839, but escaped, and during the Civil War also served as Principal Chief of pro-Confederate Cherokees after Ross and the Union-supporters withdrew.
Is buried in Polson Cemetery Ridge/Watie Cemetery Delaware county Oklahoma

I have been heavily researching this family. Have some info, and pictures of his wife and children's graves. Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated. We took a trip to the family area in March of this year, and going to KY and TN in June to continue the search. I have some scanned immages, and also sent away for Newtons death certificate, which he died in Greene Co. Ar, according to the death index. Don't know why he was there unless staying with a child or something. email me @ ridge_5@yahoo.com.
Sue

I've hit a dead end with my g-grandfather (Joseph Berry James) prior to Civil War, but did find this marriage record. Joseph married a Mary Ann; their children were named Margaret, James, Mollie, J.B.Jr., Julia, Lawrence & Wesley...any familiar names?

Thanks! I am planning a visit to Maryville over Labor Day, and I hope to do some digging myself. My great grandmother was Laura Ridge, and my grandmother (Edith Goodson, who married Luther Goodson- Laura's son), tells me that Laura Ridge's family operated the toll gate on theh road that is now highway 129 (aka, the Dragon). I guess back then, there was a charge to go over the mountatin to and from TN and NC.

Hi,

No, not proven yet. It's all still circumstantial. I'm going to try a couple more researchers. I had somebody look for anything related to Abraham or Caleb Ridge in Blount county, TN, but nothing new turned up. I am going to try and have sombody look into Nancy Curtis Ridge (wife of Caleb Ridge) in Blount county, TN and also see about finding some help from somebody in Randolph county, NC.

I think Thomas's wife's name was Elizabeth, but don't recall if the last name is mentioned. Double check George Baumbach's research here:

http://www.mindspring.com/~baumbach/cody/index.html

Hi, I am also a descendent of the Ridge line in NC/TN. I was wondering if you have proven if Abraham Ridge was in fact Caleb's son? Also, I am wondering if you know who Thomas Ridge was married to. I thought it was Elizabeth Lewis (daughter of col John Lewis and Elizabeth Warner), but I don't think this is correct.

Thanks.
Laura

They emigrated to Canada in 1907 but I believe that William jnr went to live in New Jersey USA and married Frances Tully. His father William also worked in the USA and is cited living with his son in the 1920 census in New Jersey. It appears that they were in canada in 1923 as Minnie took a trip to England to see her parents that year taking their son Richard (b.1912 in magog, canada)with her.
Any information on William Jnr would be great, and if anyone knows if William Snr and Minnie were buried in USA.
Looking for a relative of this family if pos to find out what happened to this family.

Thanks
Maggie
