Hello,

My name is Cynthia Dalton.

I just found your post about finding these Bible pages.

This is very possibly about Miriam Stephenson, a daughter of John Stephenson and Rebecca Farney of Jackson County, Ohio who married David Ridgway on 11/27/1844 in Jackson County, Ohio, and her family.

She has a sister, Dorcas Stephenson.

Is it possible for me to get a copy of the pages ? Either email, fax or regular mail is ok with me.

I am a member and officer of the Jackson County Ohio Genealogy Society.

This would be very helpful to preserve for the Stephenson and Ridgway families that lived here in Jackson County, Ohio before some of the family moved to Missouri.

Thank you so much for your good eye and thought to post for family or others searching to find !!

My regular email address is ilivebygraceofgod@gmail.com

Sorry, I don't have any of your names in my trees. I looked in Ridgways, USA also and didn't see them. William is a very common name in the Ridgways from England. There is a private tree here on ancestry.com that may help but you have to contact that person. I found them by putting in a search. I have found many people through these private trees. There is one for Christiana Jennetta Ridgway which sounds very close. Maybe someone has done the work for you.
Good Luck.

He died in 1937 in Hove, Sussex and she died in 1949 at Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex. There was one daughter: Beatrice Lilian Gordon Clay who married Capt. Cecil J. Stone in 1923. They worked together for quite some time - correspondence spans over 25 years!
My mother and father were killed in Florida in November, 1988 and by the time I had gone through all of the papers, I could not make contact with Ms. Stetler.
It appears now I have! I was just in the process of transfering the mantle of family historian to my brother.
Would love to talk to you.

The Ridgway Geneology Book

I have a Ridg(e)way book given to my father years ago, by Ethel Stetler. It follows the Ridgeways from England to Indiana. My great grandmother was Samantha Jane Ridgeway, her father was Squire Marks Ridgeway who married Mary Ann Lee. My daughter has done a lot of research from the information given to us by Ethel Stetler. Not only following the Ridgeways but also the family of Mary Ann Lee, whose father was William Lee and mother Sarah Jane Veatch. This led us to the Veatch/Veitch and Stewart line, then on back to the Beaufort line.

I am interested in the Indiana Ridgeways, following seeing a College near Grantham, Lincolnshire, which they owned and sponsored some years ago. I made a short visit there last year, with a relative, and tried to make contact with present-day members of the family but was unsuccesful. The spelling of the name, with or without the 'e' is not vital, and I have seen many uses of the name in documents for the same families in the U.K. I have seen information about the American family which originally went to the USA 1679, and am curious to see how/where the Indiana Ridgeways fit into this scenario.

To Dorrie, My Ridgway is John, born 12/11/1786 to Caliph Ridgway, who owned an earthenware factory in England, and had a brother Samuel. Samuel had a son Job who founded the pottery manufacturing business in Shelton Staffordshire. Job also had a son John, born 2/01/1786. This has become a little confusing. It is stated in a letter that Job's son John came to America a few times, first in 1822 on the ship Jasper. I've always wondered if he came and saw 'my' John, who was already living here in Virginia. He married Margaret Crume from Virginia. Then on to Kentucky, where he was a sargeant in the militia, and fought in the War of 1812. Eventually settled in Indiana.
I'm not sure if the Ridgways you are looking for, have any association with these Ridgways. I don't have any information of a college in Lincolnshire. As far as I know most of the Ridgways stayed in Indiana, where my grandmother was born in 1889. Her family later moved to Minn. She stayed there til 1916 or so, then moved with husband and my father to Los Angeles, Ca.

Hello all you Ridgways. Lynn and I did not have mutual success when we made contact a few days ago. But hurray from those of you that have. Has anyone else heard of the Ridgeways of the USA book published in the USA in 1980

Gertrude Brick & Thurman Ridgway, Ridgways In The U.S.A, (Gateway Press, 1980, 111 Water Street, Baltimore,
MD, USA.)

We Ridgways here in New Zealand and Australia would love for someone to do a look up in the book for us..... It seems to be in lots of US libraries.

Christine from New Zealand
I believe I have made our connection via the book under discussion. I appear on page 48, and I believe the Doran mentioned is the last entry on the next (49) page. You must be the 2nd child of Ken and Jaunita?
What a treat it is to make such a direct connection after all these years!

To Robert,
Sorry, for my first reply, for now I've read another message from you and you explained who your father was. I'm so excited to be in touch with someone from the family. I just looked in the Ridgway book, and you were born in 1948 in Wisc. I was born in 1951 in Carmel, Ca. My grandmother Donna died in 1975. We both share the same greatgrma Samantha Jane. I have some info you might be interested in about her mother Mary Anne Lee who married Squire Marks Ridgway, Samantha's father. We need to email.

My great grandmother was also Samantha Jane Ridgeway--her husband was Denton Simpson Calvin Patten. One of their children was Otto H. Patten, who I knew as a young boy in Tacoma, Wa. He died in 1960. His son Otto Denton was my father!
What a wonderful discovery!
I really have nothing but the baptismal information found here on Ancestry about this. I have not found good immigration info and have really concentrated on the closer in family located here in Alabama and Tennessee. We are talking about the same Samuel. The Baptismal info shows Samuel, son of Joseph and Mary baptized in 1709.
Original information I picked up was from the book "Ridgways USA" by Gertrude Brick and Thurman Ridgway published in 1980's. She shows a land patent for Samuel in 1738 for 1000 acres in Goochland County. So you have a proof earlier than this.
But your 1720 date would make Samuel only 11 years old.
Sorry I haven't done the research in the early years.
Keep me up to date.

Hello,

I too am related to the Samuel Ridgway that came over from England in the early 1700s. To make sure I am referring to the same one, he was the son of Dr. Joseph Ridgway of Clerkenwell, St James Parish, London, England. I'm trying to find out exactly when he came over. I found on the internet a copy of a will of the Estate of Mr Thos. Fitzhugh where he leaves money and items to his servants. Samuel Ridgway was listed as a white servant as the date of this Will, April 6, 1720. I just don't have proof of how or when he came over to the U.S. I would be interested in finding out if you have anything on this.
Thank you!
Diana Ridgway-Fiandaca

James Leech Ridgway, publisher, Piccadilly

Can anyone help me please?

So far I have found James Ridgway (c.1755-6th May 1838, aged 83) who came from in Mottram in Langendale, Cheshire, but moved to London and started the firm of James Ridgway and Sons, first at York Street, St. James Square, and then at 170 Picadilly. His sister, Mary, married John Stockdale (25 March 1750 – 21 June 1814) who James first worked before before setting up his own business in competition in 1784 following an argument. James Ridgway married Caroline Carrington and had at least one son, James Leech Ridgway. Caroline died 19th July 1832 in her 67th year.

James Leech Ridgway married Martha Hearn from Buckinghamshire between 2nd June 1884 and 7th February 1855. She was the sister of Thomas Hearn and I think that their father was another Thomas Hearn. Martha died on 1st January 1849.

James Leech Ridgway continued in the business at 169 Piccadilly.

James Leech Ridgway died 20th November 1862. The Executors and Trustees of his will were James William Ridgway, Edward Carrington Ridgway and William Hearn Ridgway.

William Hearn Ridgway (James Leech Ridgway's son) continued the business until 1894.

Now James Leech Ridgway also supposedly had a daughter, Maria, who married Richard Phayre of Shrewsbury and of the HEICS. Richard Phayre had at least 3 sons and 10 daughters, but I do not know if Maria was mother to them all as their births are over an extended period. Therefore Richard Phayre may have married twice and my challenge is to work out just who Maria was mother to.

So anything than can help to tie down some more dates would be much appreciated. In fact due to those dates, Maria may well the a daughter of the first James Ridgway and not of his son.

Any ideas, please?

Many thanks,
Caspar
My name is Tommy Cole & I am trying to find more information on the connection between the Davenport's & De Davenport's & Mercia's, also there is another name change to Mannesson's maybe another one to all the way to AD100, if the information I have is correct. By the way my wife is a Davenport on her mother side. You list your G-Grand mother as a Cole can you list some more decedents on the Cole's. Happy Trails T.C.

Hi, I read your post that Mahala Ridgway married Thomas Johnson, I had researched that she had married my great-grandfather Thomas Robbins in 1856 and had died around 1890's and he remarried, in 1900. Also that she had several children. I will do my reseach again, but I think I might be right, but I may be wrong!
